Verified WTW87564AUSerious design flaws and should NEVER be marketedI was a loyal Bosch customer for over a decade, owning multiple kitchen and laundry appliances and recommending the brand to others. However, my experience with the Bosch Series 8 Heat Pump Dryer WTW87564AU has been nothing s... Read morehort of disappointing.
Firstly, the dryer's design is fundamentally flawed. The claim of 'self-cleaning' for the condenser is misleading, as it requires costly maintenance by a technician, unlike other Bosch models that allow for user cleaning. This lack of transparency regarding ongoing maintenance costs is unacceptable. I am sure many customers, myself included, would not have purchased this dryer if we were aware of the ongoing costly maintenance essential for efficient drying.
Secondly, the drum's inability to reverse rotate leads to tangled and damp laundry, requiring constant manual intervention. Despite having 14 drying programs, only a few are effective, with most failing to dry clothes adequately. The only effective ones were 'Towels', 'Cottons' or 'Time Program Warmed'. The 'Wool Finish' cycle has a default setting of 6 minutes, and in my experience, inadequate to dry even a single woollen top.
Furthermore, Bosch's customer service has been appalling. Instead of addressing my concerns, they dismissed them, citing my supposed lack of understanding of the dryer and rejecting my request for a service technician, insisting that the dryer was performing within specifications. It took escalating the issue after hours to get a technician to properly assess the dryer. I resorted to calling outside regular working hours when they are managed by more obliging contractors.
The technician was the only person who took the time to listen to all my issues and did a full and thorough investigation. He found no fault with the condenser, filter, sensor, airflow, temperature, etc. He agrees the lint filters were maintained impeccably as I washed both lint filters every second day and dried them overnight. He agrees it should not take over 4 hours to have damp clothes. Consequently, he replaced a new motherboard which reduced the drying time down to ~2 hours, which is reasonable and acceptable for a heat pump dryer. I do believe many customers have been supplied with dryers installed with faulty motherboards, which is challenging to diagnose, as confirmed by the technician.
I have requested a refund under the Australian Consumer Law due to the major design flaws of the product. However, Bosch's handling of the situation, including denying receipt of service reports has been frustrating and unprofessional.
I contacted the supplier (Appliances Online) and ended up going around in circles without a deadline provided for the reports. When I contacted the technician, he confirmed the reports were sent 3 days after completion of the service and he even received payment for the job. He emailed a copy of the report which I immediately forwarded to Appliances Online, but communication has ceased at this point. The overall experience has soured my opinion of Appliances Online.
This experience has not only cost me time, money and energy but has also shattered my trust in Bosch and Appliances Online. I have lodged a complaint with the Office of Fair Trading and will no longer support or recommend these companies. Consumers deserve honesty, transparency, and accountability from manufacturers and suppliers, and Bosch and Appliances Online have failed miserably to deliver on these fronts.

Unit does NOT dry wellHave owned the unit for about 2 years (we put up with it that long). Basically the unit does NOT work well Note:- Filters cleaned after each load, cleaned the moisture sensors, all to no avail- throw in three bath sheet towel... Read mores and maybe in 6-8 hours they may be close to dry but not quite. Throw in an 8 kg mixed load and you could be drying for 10-12 hours and they will still not be dry. As for sheets - they end up as tangled damp balls. Use of the machine features was easy just very poor at actually drying anything
Just changed it out for a Beko condensor dryer and the first load of towels dried within 2 hours.

The single worst purchase in my lifetime. And I'm oldI bought this unit from Appliances Online in 2016 for around $1700. I had read that it used less electricity and didn't steam up your house. As I also owned a tumble dryer that cost me around $500. I got to compare these n... Read moreot just from observing but measuring using wattage meters and direct apples to apples comparison. The Bosch dryer doesn't handle large things such as sheets as it has no way of revering the drum, so all large items quickly end up in a spiralling bundle. If you have other items in with the large items, they get trapped. So nothing gets dry. Does that mean that it's okay for small things? Unfortunately no. When the unit is brand new, it uses around 1100 watts over a period around 2.6 to 3.5 times as long as that taken with my $500 "normal" tumble dryer. The normal tumble dryer uses 2400 watts. So, even when brand new, the Bosch dryer actually uses more power to dry the same load. As it ages, the Bosch unit becomes less and less able to remove moisture.
Next I'll take on the emissions. It's true that not so much water ends up near the dryer, unless you spill the water tray when you empty it after each and ever load. Oh, and if you are doing a large load, unless you empty the water tray after 2 hours, it will stop drying (but keep running and using electricity). However as the unit ages, it emits a smell that is unpleasant and seems to increase over time. I ended up putting this dryer in a seperate room while the normal cheaper dryer is in my lounge. Yes, it emits water vapour but its cleaner smelling and either opening windows or keeping the aircon running takes care of the increased humidity.
Next comes effective drying capacity. I found that virtually nothing gets as dry as using the cheaper dryer. This isn't a close race. Not at all. After a couple of years, you notice that the time to dry gets longer and longer. Even setting it to manual timing, leaving it run for many hours and it still doesn't get clothes dry. I paid hundreds of dollars for a Bosch service person to try to fix and he cleaned the "self cleaning" condenser. It was marginally better but still completely unacceptable. I've bought another $500 normal tumble dryer since and when that gives up, I'll get another. I will never buy a condenser type tumble dryer ever again. I have owned other Bosch equipment and it's been okay. Things like battery drills and battery saws.
Paying huge sums of money sometimes pays off, like I paid $5500 for a new super king size bed and bedding some years back. Warranty of 15 years. Absolutely love it. But money spent on this Bosch dryer is all wasted, even from day one as it never costs you less in electricity, doesn't do the job (dry bedding) and before you know it you'll be forced to pay at the recycle centre to get rid of it. At the moment it's unplugged beside the washing machine used strictly as a table surface for unloading clothes as they go from washing machine to the $500 dryer in the lounge or outside to the clothes line.
The Bosch unit may be suitable for people that don't mind paying out $1700 for a new unit each year and really have no way of dealing with humid air emitted from a cheaper dryer, all while paying more for electricity. Also, if you use sheets as bedding then you'll need some other dryer as well. You see the problem? This dryer is a total waste of money.
