Defective tent, costumer service / Not their Problem – Brought this tent thinking it was the BEST in the range.... brought it from BCF Gympie Qld, went camping following weekend at 17170 only to find the… Read more

tent had a small hole in the canvas, Emailed oztent from the camp site and dropped the tent back off to BCF Gympie the day after or 2 nights of camping... FWD 3 weeks and Oztent say its not covered under warranty as its been the result of a burn and BCF says it has NOTHING to do with them >> I refused to take back the defective tent. crap service from both BCF and OZ tent.. Was considering C-cat (small claims court) but wont waste any more time or money on it. I Will never shop at either place again, Out of pocket $1300, I should have brought and will do soon buy the Colman tent for $600

We have had RV tents (1, 3 and 4) for the last 10 years. We love the ease of setting up and packing away, especially how easy the tent goes into the… Read more

supplied bag. Our current RV3 has just been used for 10 days camping at Yalata beach which tests all camping gear. The tent stood up well to the windy conditions but this is where my only complaint exists. It is very, very noisy in the wind. Anything over a gentle breeze has the wall flapping really loudly. Now I understand the speed and ease of set up is probably the reason but please Oztent, add more Velcro tabs to the side walls.

What a waste of money. Very disappointed – After camping for years in a dome tent, decided to “upgrade” to the RV4. We did a lot of research, and despite the high price, decided the ease of… Read more

set-up and the design were worth it. How wrong we were! First weekend away, the poles bent in very light wind. The canvas dripped so much condensation (just from overnight dew) it rained inside the tent. We returned the tent to the retailer, who sent it back to oztent for testing. After 4 weeks…the verdict was -we will replace the bent poles, but there is nothing wrong with the canvas. You need to buy a fly. If the tent needs a fly to work properly, please include it! We were also spoken to as if we knew nothing about tents “you need to have windows open to stop condensation” - which we always do. However, the poor design of this tent prevents the use of the large back window unless it is completely covered by a fly. The front awning needs spreader bars to prevent it from drooping in the centre (not included, of course). And this tent is noticeably both hotter in summer and colder in winter than our old dome tent. We are so disappointed with the RV4. Prefer our 30 year old dome tent.

The fly is a must if it rains – Tent leaks like a sieve if you don't put the fly up. This tent would have been amazing but the fact you have to put the fly up doubles the time and… Read more

effort required to erect and adds a fiddly component to what was otherwise an effortless system.

Tent itself is much roomier than it first looks, perfect size for me which is not offered by the RV range. The floor does feel a bit thin and you need to be careful not to bend the frame in the wrong direction.

Once up and pegged in,Its very durable against the wind. The main zipper system is a bit awkward consisting of 3 separate zippers that meet in a T interaction and leaves a small gap that can potentially let small bugs in.

The design looks like it's should be water proof without the fly (RV might be) and it's a shame its not, it's the only reason I rate it 3 & not 5/5.

Great for camping for many years – I started camping with my boys when they were 5. We got the malamoo xtra and the small, 3 sec malamoo tent. 10 years on we’ve camped all over qld,… Read more

from lake Tinaroo on the Atherton tablelands, Daintree rainforest, longreach, Cooktown, mount tambourine, and northern nsw etc etc. chillagoe, Coolum. So easy and and comfortable and convenient. Durable. Best purchase I ever made.

Ps. I read the one star review. We had one pole break at the side - I could blame the boys but it was me. We just duck taped it. It’s still great no problem. I love my malamoo. So many happy memories. I’m shopping for a hiking tent to walk hinchinbrook, but none look as good as my malamoo.

What's the point? You're going to get wet either way – If you sleep out under the stars - no tent or swag - you may strike it lucky and only get a bit of dew on your sleeping bag in the morning. If you… Read more

sleep in the Oztent ULS-1 swag you _will_ wake up with a damp sleeping bag - guaranteed - due to condensation. And if it rains? Well, you're going to get wet either way. I was hoping the ultra-light swag would be a workable combination of lightweight swag yet keep me somewhat dry on a wet night. It is lightweight and compact for a swag - mainly as it doesn't have a foam mat - but doesn't keep dry inside. There are two main problems: water pools on the upper section and seeps in, and condensation on the inside. On the latter, I slept with the 'door' completely open and just the mesh, yet there were droplets of water everywhere inside the tent. Water ingress into the swag is mainly due to water pooling on top due to the design of the swag, rather than a fully rounded top, it is flat and no matter how tight you pull the guy lines you can't avoid water pooling - and once it starts, you've got yourself a swimming pool on top of the swag, right on a seam, and the resulting water penetration. I've fashioned a bit of a "fix" for this by running a guy line across the top of the swag, this will hopefully prevent water from pooling, at least in the middle of the swag - probably will still get wet feet... I have a single-person tent with fly that is lighter, packs up smaller, is roomier and most importantly I have yet to get wet using it. Despite the additional few minutes it takes to set up, the tent is the winner by a large margin.

capillary action at the site where the velcro fasteners attach to the top bar at the back of the tent. I am reasonably certain this this is the weak spot, but as we all know water is sneaky and I’ll be doing further investigations to try to locate and eliminate the leak. I’m certain that it is not a condensation issue because it happens when the swag is set up and empty.

Talking of condensation, the ventilation in this swag is somewhat limited. It’s fine for cool weather camping, and that suits me fine (expect condensation though!)

I would NOT recommend this swag for general use around Australia, and definitely no good in a La Niña season.

Indeed, this is a rather disappointing addition to my collection of Oztent gear and as things stand I think that there must be better options for the money. I think it might be possible to remedy this problem, but as sold the product is not of merchantable quality.
