Peace Lily Mattress
Verified Wanted to keep but didn'tI will be kind even though I was given the runaround. We purchased a king size. I like the mattress as it is non-toxic, does not retain heat, did not have a strong smell and is pressure relieving - af…ter doing exercise I would feel sore but would wake up in the morning better and the choice of medium/ firm is great. I was sleeping on the Medium side but when I flipped it over to the firm side - it was actually softer so I realised that the cover is actually on the wrong way on the mattress.
The mattress is much more comfy with the topper and so I recommend that. If you are a side sleeper at all, you really need the topper. Overall, I had every intention of keeping it and thought we were out of the trial period when I noticed that it seemed more comfy/supportive in the middle and so I got level wood and laid it over the mattress and saw that there was a 1 cm dip where my husband slept (100kg) and a less than 1cm dip where I slept (67kg). It seemed too soon for dipping to start as I have read that latex is very durable and hoped it wouldn't get worse than that but I wanted to check with the company if that was normal. I also thought that there was a possibility that I got a faulty product as the cover/label of medium/firm is on the wrong way - perhaps something else got mixed up in the process. Peacelily informed me that it wasn't normal for dipping and that it would be covered under warranty however, that I was actually within my trial period. They also asked for photos of my mattress base/frame. I sent them the photos and that was where the negativity started. My bed frame is unusual as it has ply board planks (covered in grey fabric) with holes drilled in the boards that go over a wood structure but I believe it to be sturdy and have had jumped on it with the mattress on it and asked friends to see if the plyboard have flexed and they have indicated not. It is a very flat base. May I note, that prior to purchasing I had contacted the company over messenger and provided photos of my frame asking over ventilation and they indicated the frame is fine. I started getting phone calls and from Peacelily's perspective: it wasn't the mattress fault but the bed frame being not sturdy enough as the mattress is very heavy with the topper - close to 79kg and that perhaps I needed to do something to the frame. I was strongly advised over the phone to consider returning under the trial. I went away to think about it then called a few days later, to ask if we could work something out as I wanted to keep the mattress. So I suggested I would build better support for under the plyboard planks over the weekend and they confirmed that would be ok and to send photos back. I pretty much killed my back by building extra support for this frame as I have a large degree of scoliosis but thought it would be for the best - so that I didn't have to worry about this again. I confidently sent photos and didn't hear back for a few days. Eventually, I got through to a different lady who was dealing with my case and was just met with questions / statements / questions ~ almost in an effort to wear me down. "Where did you get this frame from?" ~ My answer"Focus on Furniture", "Is there a weight rating on this?" "Did you look at the base before you bought the frame?" "In all the mattresses we have sold, the only other one that has had an issue is due to the frame" etc etc etc. Eventually, I had to interrupt and ask, if after everything that I have done - provided a base that is very similar to a slat base but has plyboard planks on it ~ was that not enough? It was not enough, Peacelily (representative) confirmed that if in future, I wanted to replace the mattress (when the dip got worse) then the replacement mattress would have no warranty if it went on that bed frame. Wow, what a waste of my time. I sincerely tried to make it work and I was lucky enough to have started the inquiry during the trial period but I really had no choice but to do a refund under the trial. What really makes me upset is that when the Salvation Army picked it up, the delivery driver said that the mattress would go to soft landing!! What a real waste - it appears that the foam/latex ones normally go there.
So readers - check your bed frame - ideally slat. |
Macoda Mattress King
Very comfy and pressure relieving but hotI really found the macoda comfortable and quite often I find that i have overdone it for my back as i dont have a good back and normally i will go to bed and still be a bit sore when i wake but i act…ually found some relief with the macoda. It was quite good on giving pressure relief. However, i found the mattress hot to sleep on even though i am not overweight and i never find mattresses hot- though i have only bought retail previously - innerspring or pocket spring with a pillow top. So, i am not sure what made me hot in this mattress but i live in canberra and the nights were still quite cool when i was trialling the mattress. So, i didnt want to risk hot nights in summer. I could also clearly tell it was the mattress as my back was hot when i woke but my front was cool - i am a back sleeper. Seems like others don't really have this problem- so it could just be me. In saying that, a all season polyester quilt will make me feel hot compared to a winter wool quilt. Soo i could just be sensitive. Unfortunately, i am still on the hunt for the right mattress. I wish it had worked out for me but definitely recommend. Returns process was easy but yes, the delivery company was a bit lacking- would say they were on way but then didnt turn up. |
Redsbaby METRO²
Beautiful and practical pram. My favourite combinationMy Redsbaby Metro 2 is a 2018 model and I have had it for a few months only as I purchased it second hand but in excellent condition. The bassinet is required from birth and can be used for a baby up …to 9kg but I think most mums find that they put their baby in the older seat after 3 months. It is beautiful and thoughtfully designed with air ventilation designed at the top of the head and in the canopy, it is very sturdy and it is nice to not have to put a seat belt on the baby. However, the cons I would say is that it is not used for very long and then ends up taking quite a bit of storage space for a while. You also cannot fold the pram with the bassinet, so it will take a bit more boot space. To be honest, I would probably buy one second hand as they are always up for sale because it is used for such a short time and takes up lots of room for storage. Then baby goes into the main seat and is for a child up to 20kg which is awesome as my second side is on the heavier side and at the top of his charts at the age of 4 but he does not need to be in it at all at this age - he is a strong walker - I am just noting the fact that it can take a good size child.
What I love about this pram is:
* The canopy and that fact that it comes with the extension hood with the air mesh flow/viewing windows. I really feel this is important for naps when baby is covered by the canopy, airflow is important! I see so many mums cover the baby with a cloth but there is research into how hot this can get in the heat of summer, so please exercise caution when doing this (I confess I do this too). So I think by having the air mesh windows unzipped, it helps the baby get airflow. On a side note, I might compare this to a Bugaboo (Bugaboo being a hugely popular brand with the price tag to fit it). Originally, Bugaboo had terrible canopies that didn't block much of the sun at all and they do not have viewing windows, so if you child is facing frontwards and the canopy is down, you have to walk to the front to check on them. But eventually Bugaboo came out with extension ones and breezy ones (which are extra accessories hence $$$), however I like that the Redsbaby has a decent canopy with those mesh windows as part of its normal package and if you live in a really hot place, you can purchase a airflow kit which is like the breezy canopy as well as a mesh seat for those kids that get really hot in the chair.
* I like that the weight is 10.5kg with the seat attached, normally for a full size pram they weigh about 13kg and for my back, I need the lighter one. However, I like to note that it is not as light as my Bugaboo bee (8.5kg) that I personally had and it takes just a little more space in the boot because of the back wheel that stick out (whereas the bee was more slimline when folded). However the Bee is a different style and the Bugaboo fox is more similar to this pram.
* The fold of the Metro is good if the seat is forward facing as you can fold it together as 1 piece and you do not have to mess around with pulling the seat off however if it is parent facing, you need to take it apart. Though, some people may prefer that (if they have backache after childbirth or had a caesarean and cannot lift heavy items), so pulling it apart would definitely make lifting less heavy.
* I love the storage basket! This might have been the main reason for getting the Metro as I can fit my son's balance bike and probably a foldable scooter when I go to pick up the kids, while the baby is having her afternoon nap in the pram. I then swap the balance bike for two school bags and they go into the basket perfectly.
* The other reason I got this pram is because I wanted a walking pram with puncture proof tyres and storage and a seat that was easy to lay back. It performs well on grass and all terrain. While Hubby was a bit sad to see the Phil and Ted Double pram go, which was great for jogging, he would never let me go on grass because there was one time where we went over a lot of grass that had prickles and we had 2 tyres that needed replacing. Also, the double pram was great for storage as we used the second seat for storage instead and that doesn't work if baby needed to lie back for a nap, so that was another reason why we replaced this.
* Adjustable handle bar is a bonus, I also love the extra pockets on the back of the seat, you can pop keys and a drink bottle there.
* The range of accessories are great, as you can see, I have the winter cocoon on it in the pictures as I took these photos during winter time. I also find the price of the accessories reasonable, for example the cocoon is normally $89.95 retail compared to the Bugaboo which is about $199.95.
* Other note, the belly bar has a swivel feature on either side, so easy to just swing to one side to get bub in, but I don't bother doing that.
* Has an adjustable leg rest, which is great.
* I also like the height of the seat for when your child is older (3+) and they can stand on the foot bar and hop in themselves, it saves my back from having to lift up a child.
* So price is a huge factor, this pram retails around $769 new(with bassinet, $649 no bassinet) while the Bugaboo fox is $1350 -$1400 (Very similar) the Bugaboo bee has smaller wheels and is more for city pushing and is priced around ($900)
The only negative is that I think you almost always have to pre-order, and if you want it now, that could be a problem and I find that with the brake on a ramp escalator the prams still slides slowly, so I have to hold on. Also sometimes, I haven't released the brake completely and I have to do it again (never had this issue before). On another note I recommend you pick a silver frame as black shows more scratches and they are bound to happen. I also wish the back wheels were more under the pram rather than sticking out to the side (even though that is a common feature), but I find that I run over my 4 year old foot all the time as he stands next to the pram and I also think it would be more slimline when in the boot of a car.
So far I have found the quality good, as I am the second owner and we use this nearly every day, the wheels are holding up but I believe there are some people who have gotten a dud but I have heard the customer service at redsbaby are excellent but it can take a while for parts to come in. In comparison, I believe Bugaboo has excellent quality control, and when I had a bee+ for 7 years, the wheels had no marks in it. So, it can be hard to compare but I definitely think Redsbaby give Bugaboo excellent competition. It certainly has more features for a pram and looks lovely, it is also much better price and isn't it good to support an Australian company?! |
The Caboo Baby Carrier
Wonderful and easy to useThe CABOO baby carrier and is quite comfy, but is better than a normal baby wrap carrier like Moby or Hug a Bub because you don't have to mess around with a 6 metre length of fabric. It is already pre…-tied so you can slip your arms and head in, adjust the excess fabric to your size and with a couple of ties, it is done. I love how you dont have to mess around with clips, and that you can wear it around ready to slip bub in and not too many people would notice what you are wearing because it is just fabric. You also have a few positions available and that is detailed in the book with it. The only downside is that I could imagine the regular cotton one would still get hot on a really hot day walking outside (but I believe there are other styles with a mesh fabric) and that when bub is older - the weight would be very noticeable on the shoulders. But overall I think this is great for that first year and I really liked it. |
OZ Design Furniture
Looks nice but functionally disappointingWe purchased this in January 2020. It looks beautiful and the wood quality is nice. However, I would be very mindful of what you use the storage space for in the entertainment unit. I would think most… people keep a few dvds and generally, you would store them upright with the spine up however dvds do not fit that way in this unit. It is actually 5mm too short in height which is extremely frustrating because you can see that if the drawer was lowered, it would fit. I called and asked ozdesign about this, but apparently this is not a fault, it is the way the cabinetry is made. I would definitely not have purchased this if I had knew this because when we had fantastic furniture or ikea furniture, they easily fitted upright and there were also 4 drawers. I now still have 4 drawers and wider drawers in the ozdesign but because of the lack of design functionality, I can not fit all our dvds. I know, we are moving away from dvds but sometimes you have your favourites that you keep and generally, that is what entertainment unit storage have. So I am actually really disappointed, I thought I would get use to it or we would try to put it in on an angle but it is still an issue and can sometimes jam the drawer. So, 3 months later - wish we kept looking. |
