Lenovo X1 Carbon
Wow. Finally a well made piece of kitOver the years I’ve had numerous ultra books: X360 Spectre Lenovo 720 Yoga Surface book 2… And all have been a disappointment. Not today with the X1. I bought the i5, 8gb Ram 256gb SSD as I don’t need the grunt or the fan noise. All of the above were of the same spec and all had issues. The Surface Book was by far the better of the three until it wasn’t. The X1 is a sweet looking piece of machinery. Charges in 80mins and simple to set up. My programs all loaded really quickly and batter was well above 60% after finishing installing, updating and general setting up. Looks to be quality and no thermal issues underneath. As I progress I’ll update pros and cons but so far no cons. |
Haier 450L Bottom Mount HBM450HSA1 (Water Dispenser, Silver)
Not bad, but quality control could be betterI really liked this fridge when we bought it. We were seeking a fridge that had a water dispenser and was slim enough to fit an older style fridge cavity and had plenty of space (it really does). … After 4 months I figured it was time to put in a review. - Noisey sometimes; - Water dispenser tank is woefully small 1.8litres is far too small to be meaningful. The Samsung fridge closest to this one has almost 3 liters; -The draws (crisper and extra). These are great but you need to open with two hands as with one it gets stuck (comes out crooked); and -Lack of ice tray in the freezer. My biggest gripe (and we'll see how I go with Haier's tech in the ACT) is that the seals are absolutely crap. We've noticed neither the fridge nor the freezer vacuums properly and we've had instances where the freezer seal has come out of its groove and resulted in the freezer staying open and spoiling things in the freezer. I never had an issue with my old fridge (a Samsung from 2011) about seals and the like and this has made this fridge after only 4 months. I will update post tech visit - but if its the same guy as who checked over my Haier washer, he'll do his utmost to not do a thing. |
Samsung Series 8 UA55NU8000WXXY (55")
Once again, one of the best TVs on the marketI’ve got the slightly newer model with the different legs. I have last years MU6000 model too and I love these TVs … as they connect to all of My devices (fetch TV, stereo, phones etc). Good picture but still need to figure out how to turn off smart dimming. The remote does take a while to get used to but overall once you get to know it, you’ll never be able to go back to the other bricks out there. Overall very impressed with the TV and bought for a great price. |
ALDI 2018 Petrol Mowers
Not bad for the price! My old mower decided to die mid mow so was stuck without a mower. After checking my local hardware stores I remembered that Aldi had them (I was 4 weeks too late). Checked a few stores and found one r…educed to clear.
For the price (even the original price) you really can’t expect Victa / Briggs and Stratton quality.
Easy to put together and worked very easily first go.
After first mow - the catcher is a terrible design and does let dust through so it’s so so.
Cutting height is a bit too low so I’ve got it on the highest setting.
My only real gripe is the variable speed (or lack thereof). The spring mechanism is there for it but there’s no way without pulling it to increase power so unsure why it’s there at all.
Overall, value for money if you just want to mow grass and nothing else.
We’ll see how long it lasts (so I’ll update this if anything happens).

Microsoft Surface Book 2 256GB/Intel Core i5 - 8GB RAM (13.5")
Good all rounderHaving come from a 2016 & 2017 HP Spectre x360 and a cheaper Lenovo Yoga 520, i've had no issues whatsoever. My other two laptops were noisy (fans) with both laptops being fixed by their respectiv… e manufacturers many times. I bought this after my Surface Pro died and so far this guy has not given me any grief. No noise, no niggly faults just works flawlessly. The battery lasts all day for me and the base model even lets me game (Steam - EAW). I've watched TV shows on it and the picture is excellent. It's not as nimble as an SP but given its a 13+" laptop I didn't expect to be. Higher spec models are a bit expensive, but considering Apple, HP and Lenovo flagships are just as expensive it's all par for the course. |
