GigaComm Home Gigabit
Verified Amazing gigabit speeds even in an old apartment building! 5G really does workGigaComm dropped a flyer in our mailbox one day claiming to be able to offer gigabit speeds in our apartment complex near Sydney CBD. As a strata committee member, I understood they did this through t…he use of a 5G receiver on the roof, with new fibre cable runs down the risers, and only using the building's legacy copper wiring for the last mile essentially from the risers (near the lifts) to your individual unit. Given my existing Telstra NBN 100 plan topped out at circa 75Mbps in practice, I was skeptical to say the least as I knew the copper wiring down to the MDF was clearly a bottleneck.
I spent a lot of time with the team at GigaComm and their installation team to understand what they were doing, and the team were very helpful and supportive with getting the strata committee onboard. There was only one hiccup with one of GigaComm's subcontractors and their timeliness/communications with building management (granted, during the lockdowns and pandemic) but otherwise it was a good experience and I appreciated how much time their team spent visiting us on site, checking out potential installation locations, providing lots of diagrams and installation plans, etc.
From an end user/customer perspective, everyone from GigaComm has been great. Installation went smoothly and on time once it was locked in (note it does take some a few weeks between building/wiring for building being done and when you as a customer can get it installed/running), and the tech support team were excellent at helping me troubleshoot as I wanted to get the most out of my connection since it was initially hovering around 800-850Mbps due to my self-provided Asus XT8 router's various QoS/protections/monitoring/beamforming/etc slowing down wired and wireless speeds. The results in the screenshots speak for themselves but as you can see I'm comfortably above 900Mbps.
I'd also note that in the few months I've been with GigaComm, the service has been rock solid with only two very brief service interruptions (one was a minute or two, and the other was half an hour but it was due to another contractor in our building knocking out the connection unintentionally).
All in all, highly recommended. If you are considering this either as a customer or a strata committee member, I cannot praise these guys enough and how well they worked with us. There's plenty of positive feedback as well in other forums eg Whirlpool on the installation process too. From a customer perspective, they do manage to deliver on their promises (despite my scepticism!) but I suppose the flip side is gigabit internet unfortunately doesn't come cheap. The 1000/100 plan I was on costs $189/mth. |
Catch
Verified Excellent customer serviceWhilst it is difficult to review Catch given they sell such a wide variety of products both themselves and as a marketplace, but I've found customer service to be excellent when I've had an issue and …needed assistance, even if it meant chasing down a third party seller who had mislabelled a product and arranging a refund promptly. Well done. |
Umart Online Online store
Verified Excellent store, well pricedUMart has continued to be a high quality and reputable computer store with multiple locations. Service is quick, and when I made an incorrect order, they were quick to cancel/refund without issue prio…r to pick up. Pricing is competitive, and well suited to those who have done their own research into what they are looking for. Thanks UMart. |
Alliance Climate Control
Verified Very professional service from initial quote to completion, excellent installation and works great!I recently had Alliance CC install a Mitsubishi multi-split system in our apartment in October 2019 with three heads and one compressor on the balcony. Kirk came out to do an initial quote (for free) …a short while back and unlike the others, he provided an extremely detailed quote including exact parts, specifications and pricing. The documentation was able to be submitted easily to our strata/owners corp for quick approval as it was well documented, and approval came quickly. In the lead up to accepting the quote, Kirk and James were very helpful and supportive as I asked for advice on exactly what specification I needed for my small apartment without overspending since I had a tight budget.
On the day, I met Hayden, Shadi, Thomas, Corey and Connor who were extremely professional in how they interacted with myself as well as the building manager. They were well organised, had all the tools they needed and were able to be left on their own to do everything properly. The quality of the installation was excellent with the colour-matching and method they ran wires and pipes throughout the apartment looking as seamless as possible (refer to photos below). This was a pretty large job given the limitations in our apartment's strict strata/by-laws and the floorplan. One month later, everything is working perfectly and I have no complaints, and am also glad that we right-sized the compressor unit.
The only negative I'd have (which is nitpicking) is that whilst they offer to clean up after themselves and in fairness, go above and beyond what most tradies would do (eg mopping the floor), there was still dust and mess everywhere behind doors/walls/etc... and even though they used their own drop sheets to cover things, unfortunately they didn't fully cover some key furniture such as our baby's cot and our bed resulting in a lot of drilling dust being everywhere. Whilst a minor complaint, it was still frustrating since it meant we had to spend the evening cleaning up and washing linen before we could sleep.
To Alliance's credit again, when I did have concerns over an area of the plaster which hadn't set properly, Kirk offered to come out straight away and he fixed it immediately, and also found a few spots I had missed and cleaned it with their industrial vacuum. This instant response to feedback was a surprise and I appreciated this.
So all in all, I would highly recommend Alliance for others looking for an air conditioning installation especially a complex one. The all in one quote for both supply and installation means you have a single point of contact both now and in the future (should something go wrong), their quotes are detailed and specific (so you can easily get strata approval) and they stand by the quality of their work and are willing to fix anything which isn't 100%. As far as I can tell, the work was all done to a very high standard without any shortcuts and the end result is one that I'm happy to look at everyday. The professionalism demonstrated by all of their staff both from a sales perspective and the team actually doing the installation should be commended and left a very positive impression on me.
I would also mention the reason why we chose Alliance over the competitors which were cheaper is that the detailed quote they provided was clearly itemised and they had a 'no surprises' approach which I really appreciated. The quote was exactly what we paid and there was no deviation/cash-grab at the end. The big box retailers who had their recommended installers come out tended to give very rough back of the envelope quotes which didn't inspire confidence that there wouldn't be a surprise later on especially on things such as piping/wiring lengths, proposed routes, and the need for a pump given the length of distance. These are things which none of the other installers even considered or mentioned and I suspect would've been an awkward situation during the installation if it turned out we needed them. |
Baby & Toddler Town
Verified Poor inventory management means you may be waiting a very long time for your orderFirstly the positive, the pricing is reasonable and so was the shipping charges. Website wasn't too bad either and I could find what I wanted and order (although the reward points system is a bit ambi…guous as to when you actually earn the points).
Unfortunately the downside to the experience is a significant deficiency whereby either Baby & Toddler Town are incompetent at inventory management or they deliberately mislead customers as to whether (or when) they have stock. Like others posting here, I bought several items in early October which were supposedly available (and paid with Afterpay), but subsequently found out they were not in stock but would be a week or maximum two weeks delayed. Two weeks went by, and I didn't hear anything so I have had to chase them myself for updates for which they are not forthcoming. They've missed the subsequent delivery dates a couple of more times now (and it's now mid November) and funnily enough, I think all the Afterpay installments have been charged to my credit card.
Overall, it's not worth saving a few dollars here vs buying from Baby Bunting or Amazon especially if you want the items to still be relevant/fit your baby by the time they arrive. I contrast this experience with buying the same brand items from Amazon where Boori called me to confirm I was home to take delivery... THE NEXT DAY (and sure enough, it came).
To the credit of Baby & Toddler Town though, they were able to send me one critical item (a Boori mattress) after I called (multiple times) and expressed my disappointment and issue (of having the Boori cot from Amazon but no mattress to use it) and magically staff in the warehouse happened to find one and ship it out within a couple of days (although in hindsight, I suspect it may have been someone else's order. Sorry!)... as for the other Boori accessories and other items I ordered, I'm still waiting on these. So all in all, I wouldn't recommend this store to anyone who actually wants to receive the item in a reasonable timeframe. |
