Hi Jacqui, thanks for getting in contact! We don't have any specific general exclusions for going to school overseas. Provided your daughter isn't engaging in any sort of manual work she may still have provisions to claim if she became sick or injured herself. Please refer to our PDS for our full terms and conditions:https://www.1cover.com.au/assets/1Cover-AU-Standard-PDS_20190710.pdf/ and please do not hesitate to get in contact if you need any further assistance. Hi Georgi,

1) If your flight was cancelled due to weather, which is a claimable event with us, you may have provisions to claim under Cancellation Fees and Lost Deposits. However if your flight was delayed for over 6 hours, you may have provisions to claim under Disruption of Journey for the additional accommodation and travel expenses occurred due to that delay.

2) Sea Kayaking is included in our list of Automatically covered activities. Please see that list here: https://www.1cover.com.au/adventure-travel-insurance/

Hi Michelle! If you are currently overseas, the only policy we can offer is the Already Overseas policy. The Already Overseas cover is appropriate for Australia residents who are already overseas and need travel insurance cover because they have either forgotten to purchase before they left Australia or, their existing travel insurance policy has expired.

Please read our conditions of purchase carefully. We can only provide cover provided that you satisfy the following conditions at the time of purchase:

- You are aged 64 or under; and
- You have a permanent residential address in Australia and will be returning to resume residence in Australia at the end of your journey; and
- You intend to return to Australia on the date your policy ends; and
- You purchase your policy within 30 days from either the date you departed Australia; or the expiry of any other travel insurance policy; and
- Your period of overseas travel does not exceed 15 consecutive months in total from the date you originally departed Australia;
- Please note there is a 72 hour waiting period from the start date of the policy for any benefit to be valid

Please note:

For this cover "journey" means the time from when the policy is issued while you are overseas and ends when you arrive at any immigration counter in Australia.
- Journeys can be up to a maximum of 90 days.
- Purchasing an Already Overseas policy is limited to one journey every 12 months.
- No pre-existing conditions will be covered under this policy unless it's an automatically covered condition with 1Cover and you meet the criteria on page 61 of our PDS

Comprehensive Travel Insurance

Hi, I have you 1Cover before but I just want to be clear about medical expenses cover because so many people misunderstand the term and the condition like me. If you're in a country where local hospital or ambulance or doctors provide receipt in their language, do I need to translate the receipt to English before I lodge a claim to 1cover?In an emergency of injury or health problem and I have to go to the closest hospital. After that they have to transfer to specialist hospital or doctors, do I have to ring 1Cover first or do you organise everything at the start? thank you, Tom

1 answer

Customer Service R.1Cover

Hi Tom, Ideally to process the claim as quickly as possible, we recommend that the documents are already translated by a registered translator, however if you are unable to do this, we have facilities available that can action this process for us. We recommend that for any medical emergencies that you always contact our Medical Team to assess your condition and make the necessary arrangements that you require. Hope this answers your query. Regards, Sophie.

Hello Paul,
You need 2 policies if you are returning home between each trip. If you are visiting Europe and India in the one journey, then you only need the 1 policy. Ensure that you enter all countries that you intend on visiting when creating your quote online. Hope this helps. Regards, Sophie

Hi There,
We are travelling to the US in a few months and looking at travel insurance. We are mainly concerned about illness/sickness and the ridiculous cost of medical treatment over there should we get sick. Can you please explain what happens in the case of illness- fortunately we have never had to seek medical advice on previous trips. Do we pay up front and then reimbursed, or is it covered immediately by 1 cover?
Thank you for your help.

I bought tickets to Hong Kong before the trouble started but forgot to purchase travel insurance straight away. So my question is that what type of travel insurance should I get that would cover me if the flights were cancelled into Hong Kong

Customer Service R.1Cover

Hi Jerry, Unfortunately you have left it a little late. The demonstrations have been reported in the media for quite awhile now. Any new policies that have been purchased after 06 August do not cover any incidents related to the HKG demonstrations. Any policies that were purchased prior to 06 August, may have provisions to claim if they are impacted by the demonstrations. If you require further assistance, please contact call the centre or through our Chat system, Regards, Sophie

Customer Service R.1Cover

Hi Janice, If you purchase our cruise pack add-on there is a provision to claim for missed cruise departure. In regards to alcohol, it is a general exclusion under our policy if you are deemed to be intoxicated. There are lots of variables and each case is assessed based on its facts in accordance with the policy terms and conditions. We would apply the exclusion if it’s evident that the cause of the incident is directly attributable to intoxication of a policy holder. I hope this helps, if you have any further queries in regards to the policy you can contact our friendly contact centre team on 1300 854 819. Thank you, Sophie@1Cover
