Great for two..
We have a 2004 CruiseLiner with many extras and find it an excellent proposition after a Jayco Freedom .. The Avan is easier to tow and much more sensibly designed. The only drawback compared is the annexe assembly but once you become familiar with the routine it adds just a few more minutes to dropping the awning. Allup a fantastic unit!!!
Towing ease, sensible storage
Annexe assembly V rollout awning
Ticks all our boxes-easy to use/fits in garage/easy to tow/no canvas! Just pullup at any pleasant looking spot, and before you know it, the kettle's on, and a snack is on the way.
Solid, easy to set up, easy to store and tow. Plenty of natural light, and innovative design.
You must be minimalist with the gear you take and keep everything tidy and be disciplined with a place for everything & everything in its place as storage is at a premium
Tow ball weight
I,m looking at buying a hyundia i30 auto desiel wagon with a max tow ball weight of 75kgs and towing limit of 1200kgs and am a little concerned that if I load the ALiner with approx another 200 kgs (taking total weight to 1000kgs),presuming I load it correctly, will this impact on the stated tow ball weight of 65kgs for the van.
ease of erection
I loved the design, the ease of putting it up, the speed of putting it down. although the Annex was a bit awkward to thread up to the point of the roof, but once used to it, got better and quicker. With Annex and staying for a period of time in one place, it was great, with two teenage boys in the annex. Can be towed by almost anything, low ball weight, wouldn't know it was attached when driving, so easy. Easy to back and set up for the night. Had a few breakages before it got off the yard when we bought it, but they were all fixed and we ...left before anything fell off! Worth the buy overall. Great small caravan for travelling when you need to put it up in a hurry. Great to stop and put it up for a 'cuppa. Can be pulled by small 4cl 1600 car, yes really!! We pulled it with a Mazda Premacy, later by Nissan X-trail and you wouldn't know it was on. Not really good for more than two people, although we had one child travelling with us. No storage space for clothes, very little for kitchen goods and food, so awkward when you need to cook.
Can't beat them. The solid sides are a definite advantage over the wind up campers, not to mention the soft floor ones.
Can be put up in less then a minute. Easy enough to put up for lunch on the road.
Tows like a dream. Does not increase fuel consumption of my Prado when towing by much. Self sufficient with battery pack and Solar charger. Good build quality when compared with other wind up camper which I had before. No Canvas or flimsy roof supports to worry about in strong winds.
Good for 2 people - would not suggest to try with more.
This van beats all campers and caravans if you need only a simple way of camping in comfort. Because the roof is so well insulated the temperture inside is bearable. Add the top hatches that can be opened and "bob is your uncle"
The rear bumperbar is for tent poles, but like in our case its a permanent fishing rod storage.
This camper is soooooo easy to tow. I have to look in my mirrors regularly to make sure the van is still there. I am towing with a 2.2 diesel. Its so easy to set it up. It attracts most of the time curiosity with other campe...
Questions & Answers
Can the aliner be stored in travel mode or does the roof need to lifted when van is not being used for a few weeks?
Anyone have a rough idea of town all weight on a 2001 avan cruiseliner? Thanks in advance
Where can I buy a roof lifter for our Aliner Avan? We saw several of these very handy gadgets when travelling in Qld. this winter. A stem on three legs, with a small box with with a handle, Inside the box some reduction gears. A further rod and piece of c channel to fit under side of roof. Simply wind up (using just 2 fingers) and pop its up!! about $400 with a supplied canvas bag, Phone 0490 800 348 and leave a message with your name and contact number, Many thanks. Rose and Nicholas.
