Terrible repair from AAMI preferred SMART repairer.
Have used AAMI for years. But SMART Suncorp is now the preferred repairer. The repair work is very poor. Car bumper not align properly and paintwork is uneven with drops of excessive paint. Had to make them to repair it again. Wasting my time with no apologies from SMART manager, Mulgrave branch Victoria. Will not use AAMI again.
Uncompromising and compassionate
Had 2 animal strikes in less then a couple hrs apart one night driving to work. AAMI won’t count it as one claim and insist paying for them as seperate incidences.
Not the cheapest but don't try to delay claims or repairs
Have variously switched between AAMI and RACQ for two vehicles over several years. AAMI treat claims as a "cost of doing business" rather than a "cost centre"! There are plenty of cheaper insurers, but wait until you actually have to make a claim! So if you look carefully at all the online reviews you will see that all the people giving 5 stars to other insurers are generally basing this entirely on price and have never made a claim. The main downside with AAMI is having to use their repair facility in a major city. I recently insured a Tesla ...and received quotes ranging from $890 to $2650. AAMI were around $1400 and I know there will be no fuss if I ever need to make a claim. They are yet to update Tesla vehicle prices so my car is over insured and you cannot reduce the value to the actual current on road price of the vehicle.
AAMI.. You can do better
My vehicle was written off on April 21st.
It was towed to an AAMI holding yard on April 23rd for assessment... I have consequently been on the phone on 3 occasions for periods of 45-60 minutes.. I was informed on May 3rd it was written off.. then supposedly transferred to the Total Loss Dept... waited 60 minutes then someone answered the phone and hung up...
I did not utter a word....
AAMI, you can do better
Dodgy premium calculation
I recently insured my new car with AAMI. When I received the policy documents, I noticed that the garaging address was that of my neighbour. I logged in to correct this and bingo, the premium went up 20%. Figuring this was a mistake, I called AAMI and was told this revised rate was correct. No, they can't tell me why as premium calculation is a commercial secret. So, I entered the same details in a quote using my other neighbour's address and this time the premium for my correct address was 26% more. The properties are identical in almost all a...spects except mine is more secure. I understand that premiums change across postcodes but the same details across a distance of 25 metres resulting is three very different premiums is outrageous. I specifically asked if they thought it reasonable that I was being charged 26% more than I would if I lived next door and was told "Yes". I have not had any claims against any sort of insurance that would affect this calculation. Apparently, if you already have a policy at your address, whether it be car, house, contents, you will be charged the AAMI policy holder loyalty penalty. This part is important: Before agreeing to any policy with AAMI, use their online calculator to find out what your neighbours would pay for the same policy. Be precise with the details. At the time of writing, the results will be displayed on the site regardless of whether you use a real email address or not. AAMI will do nothing about this difference. You will be met with an officious corporate brick wall and secrecy. On a positive note, they did reduce my policy to near the higher of the two other amounts (still 8% higher than the cheaper of the other two quotes) and that is competitive, but only for the term of the current policy. Then it goes back up. That's when I'll look elsewhere. Also positive is that they were quick to respond. I'm hoping that I never need to make a claim.
Have you ever renewed a policy with AAMI? Then you've been scammed.
It's always more expensive to renew a policy with them than to let it expire and buy a new one (and nowhere have I seen them advertise that new customers get a discount off their normal rates like some other companies do). This is how they reward customer loyalty.
You can easily confirm it yourself by doing an online quote. Try 2 different addresses - your own and your neighbour's, who hopefully doesn't have a policy with them. If your car is currently insured with them the price for your address will be higher, even if your neighbour is just another unit in the same building. In my case the difference is around 12% of the premium.
Disappointed with their service
We bought 3 policies with AAMI,but so far I couldn't access to the AAMI club and everyday saving account, communicated with them quite a few times, email not responsed, the problem is there, very disappointed with their services
Not interested in retaining customers
I left AAMI after being with them for 10 years .
Got tired of getting renewals at higher rates and getting cheaper online offers from them . This is inspite of a good driver record and no claims in years. I called to get a better offer and it was still higher than the one I got emailed . I don’t know how they justify the price difference .
Years ago when I claimed, the repairs always took longer than expected yet I still stuck around. Getting tired of having no value as long customer.
I went back to AAMI after being unimpressed with another insurer. I was happy with my monthly premium and paid it, and even accepted the $11/month premium hike last year, albeit a little put off and annoyed.
I get my quote for renewal this morning. I’ve made zero claims, given them zero issues except for a couple of bungled direct debits, and they hiked my premium up by $17/month AKA $200 a year! Unbelievable and extremely dodgy. Will not be renewing with AAMI. My pet insurance provider is more reasonable than this and I’ve actually MADE claims with them!
Poorest of the poorest customer service
Mistake after mistake over my claim.
Rude customer service.
Always giving excuses to justify their lack of professionalism.
I realised being just a number to them, but as long as you pay !!!!
Never ever experienced this before
They have removed all humanity in their company.
Go everywhere else except Aami
UNLUCKY YOU ARE WITH AAMI should be their slogan
Extremely clunky and buggy website, defective system that gives an error every time i try to view my policy
I've had a car insurance with them for over 3 years now, and you know what, every year after i paid for the renewal, it never sends me a confirmation, and when i login to check the policy, it always gives an error. i had to call them to send me a certificate of currency and the customer service rep told me their system is just buggy like that, and they didn't know why it always fails.
Next year I'm thinking about moving to another insurer for sure.
Good insurance, keep coming back.
I've switched back to AAMI after living in NT (with TIO Car insurance) for 3 years.
Able to get a competative price for an under 25 driver and free roadside assistance for a year.
Very easy to request a quote and all handled thru email and the website.
2016 Mazda is covered for agreed value of $21,600 with a $600 excess and yearly $686.61.
Much cheaper than other insurers for young drivers.
Insurance Premium Theft !!!
Received a renewal for comprehensive car insurance with a write down of $11k to the vehicle from the previous year and a 16% increase to the premium, to my disgust as a loyal customer with no claims or traffic infringements in the past 30 years. You may have a concern like I did when going online for a quote (AAMI) for the same car and details as the renewal, to get a better price than the one emailed. Also while online I changed the address to the homes either side of mine only to find that they both got even cheaper premiums that mine!! I ran...g and spoke to the new quotes department in regards to these variations, only to be told its all about the specific house were the car is parked when questioned, and then offered an additional discount. I went back online to achieve a renewal from another insurance company with exactly the same details and their premium was $200 cheaper!!! So my advice to all you policy holders its not how old your are, how good you drive, how many claims you have, how long you have been a loyal customer, but how lazy they think you are not to challenge their excessive premiums with no justification. GOODBYE AAMI
Had 3 not at fault claims over the past 15 years. 1st one while we were shopping in a centre someone backed into our Yaris and crushed the whole back hatch, and did a runner. Had to pay an excess because we had not proof of who did it, but car was fixed within a few days. They organised a taxi home after dropping the car at their repairer Smart Centre.
2nd accident Mercedes rear ended me, crushed back hatch in. Again fast turnaround car fixed.
3rd accident near new Mazda 3 was totally written off by a ute cutting across me head on. This clai...
Has a Positive experience
I recently had an accident resulting in a front on collision, the other driver assumed responsibility. After taking relevant photos of the relevant sites, i initiated the process to exchange of details. I soon realised that the driver had an international drivers licence. Since this was foreign territory, I immediately called AAMI to see if what information I needed. Unfortunately, the information conveyed over the frantic phone call was not explicitly clear. The other driver incidentally showed me that they had an authorised translation of the...ir international licence. After taking photos of these documentation and exchanging details I proceed to lodge my claim with AAMI. I also asked the driver for a copy of their insurance policy (this was just an extra precaution- and I understand that some drivers will not oblige). After following the routine claim lodgement process, I was charged with a $600 excess, with the assurance that if the accident was identified as not my fault it would be refunded. I chose to get my car serviced at the Peakhurst (NSW) Smart location as the one closer to me had more negative reviews in comparison. In Retrospect majority of the service centres have some form of negative reviews, I guess this is customary. I read most of the positive and negative reviews on both google and other similar review sites, and concluded that the Peakhurst location was a good bet. In my situation I was not proven wrong, they were flexible and professional and not to mention quick, handed my car in on Friday morning at 7:30am, got a SMS Saturday saying it was ready to be picked up on Monday. A caveat being it was minor crack to the front bumper. As have comprehensive cover had uber rides to and from service center, work, and hire care (and these were over multiple days to suit my convenience). I wanted to give AAMI some props and say that they did a great, professional job with my accident and I relieved that the system works.
Questions & Answers
I had a trolley driver damage my car while it was parked. 'Hit and Run' situation and there is shopping centre video evidence showing what happened. However, AAMI in their wisdom have decided to deem that the excess paid to have my car repair will not be refunded on the basis that I did not provide the at-fault person's details? How could I as I was not there when this happened. Seems like a clever way to avoid the work involved in clearing me and going after the trolley-company contractor's insurance company to pay for my damages. It this not part of the Insurance service?
How do you decide who is at fault for collision
It goes by the road laws. For example, if the other person was supposed to give way and you were already in the intersection, then the other person is at fault.
Hi Wendy! Well it depends if you think fault of the other party, of course they will fight for you but it needs justification. Proof thanks
