Been with AAMI for 7 months now, never had an issue with my payments. There's always been money in the bank, for them to deduct the payments automatically. Wokeup this morning to an email, the payments been declined for insufficient funds LOL. Checked my bank money still in it, so had to manually process the payment through. If it wasn't AAMI fault, then I apologize. Only leaves one culprit then, Westpacs been messing around with my pennies ...tsk tsk tsk.

Always been with AAMI and they are great. They are competitive on price for long term customers HOWEVER. They Now have call takers in the Philippines I almost left them because of this. They are hard to understand and even thought they try they can't trully empathise with a fire that has consumed my fence.
Disappointing resolution of their error.
Applied for a cover note for a $42,000 car. Answered all questions asked by the phone consultant. I wasn’t asked the value of the car, but thought nothing off of that since it’s a brand new car and so I just assumed they knew the price from their red book or whatever. Was asked were there “any extras”? Now in my decades of experience with purchasing and insuring cars, I know that ‘extras’ refers to modifications or additions to the car that aren’t standard, so my answer was “no”.

Not very happy with the chosen repairers
My car was stolen and then recovered later with some damages. AAMI was OK in every aspect but the repairing workshop they had chosen (named "5 star Panels") was terrible. Also AAMI was completely detached from the process of repairing. They could be more engaged and involved. Examples of how bad the repairs were, the bumper was loos making wobbling noise until I found the problem. Rear splashes were not installed causing the bumper to be loose. Air filtering compartment was missing from the car; something that any mechanic would notice right aw...ay. Engine was sucking the air directly from outside (air filter bypassed). And of course many minor issues such as car wheel covers replaced with some from a different model. I had to take the car back to the workshop 3 times over 3 months to resolve the obvious problems. I don't know if there are hidden problems but I can see a bit of instability on turns. Can't afford getting it fully checked ATM. I should be fair and state that the exterior painting was good. I also like to add that the car was stolen after my house was broken into and I am very satisfied with the AAMI's Building and Contents department. Meanwhile, their customer service (apart from the problem mentioned above) is really good.

EDIT! I think all the insurance companies are much the same. Make sure if you get Comprehensive Car Insurance with AAMI you buy the unlimited (it is 21 days at most though) hire car, it could save your butt. They could be better with communication, some of their phone operators need to learn how to read files properly (more training), they need to call you back if they accidentally hang up on you after leaving you on hold for 30 minutes. The "free taxi" service they offer actually involves you paying for the taxi and them reimbursing you, which seemed more trouble than it was worth.
There are probably worse insurance companies tbh. Would be nice if they all improved their service considering how much money they make off us.

Does NOT offer vehicle towing
Bought AAMI roadside assist along with the insurance. They were the most affordable I could find, but one day my car was bogged in sand and I called roadside assist, and they said they don't do bogs. They do flat batteries, flat tyres, but not bogs. I had to call RAC and sign up with their roadside assist to get unbogged. I'm going RAC in the future.
Have no branch, hard to contact.
Initially the policy was good value for money and used to go into the branch to pay and talk about the policy, ever since branch closed down, hard to contact people over the phone about claims and policy changes. wait for ages and sometimes not even helpful.
Had issues with being told vastly different things by different people. Did respond to concerns and now all is fixed.
Need clear information about time scales at the time claims are made.
I made a few claims (kangaroos) and had no real dramas. Would have been nice if they'd rolled the first two into one as the car hadn't been repaired yet and I hit the second roo in exactly the same part of the car two weeks later.

Roadside assist is useless, was with ammi for 2.5 years not a single claim and they increasing monthly policy. Don't care about customers poor customer service. Charging 30$ for cancelling whereas my insurance expiring withing 15 days.
Had two claims since this year of 2016 at not fault by me
February I had a rear car's bumper hit and boot got a minor dent, spoken over the phone with AAMI team and gave them the details of at fault driver. So they booked the where about to drop off my vehicle to smash repair shop right after I gave the details and they do the rest of getting the other side's claims. And I my full new bumper and rear boot and the rear suspension rack replaced! Excellent! Second claim was also not at fault but this time is a parked car on street. The street was flooded due to underground water pipe busted and my car go...t flooded just below car seats. I made a call and told them the situation and I was told I have to paid my own excess at first until I get the responsible. So I found the City West Water whom to responsible for the damage of my vehicle. At first I felt at ease when they say they will responsible for my vehicle's damage and told me so I gave AAMI the details. a week later I was reported that my vehicle is written off. So the AAMI insurance will pay me what I had put in the agreed value when I sign up for. I got my cheaque following week but still waiting for AAMI to get the other side to refund my excess money back and is been a month now. But what I hoping is to get my refund of insurance I've paid for the yearly as well since is not my fault and now I don't have the vehicle to drive so there is no reason for me to pay the left over yearly insurance. Havn't yet spoken with them about that yet will talk to them about it once they reply my call or email. So the good thing about the AAMI service is u don't feel much stresses when comes to claiming. Easy and done in a reasonable time. The bad part is... when you trying to make a call to claims... is a hella long waiting specially during noon. So if you wanna make a call to get thru is better be after 9pm and before 10am. And the claimed to wait for the quote is waiting too long. The first claim from start to end with collecting your car back took 3 weeks.
I made my claim over the phone , they switched to operator within one minute.
Operator was not rude,answered all of my questions. At first time, I arranged a report . At the second time, I arranged claim and rental car as my policy covers rental car.
I hope the remaining part of my process proceeds as smoothly as it can.

Today, I bring my car to capital smart.inspector, receptionist were friendly, it took me 10 minute to finish assessment
As I have car rental provision, they arranged me taxi . There is no problem at all.Aami provide me good service up to now.
Online Policy renewal loses no claim bonus and driver status
My current comprehensive motor vehicle (CMV) policy with AAMI is due for renewal soon. I had a previous CMV policy with AAMI which I cancelled as I purchased a new car. I had a Rating of Lifetime Rating One with the previous policy. I noticed on my current policy that I lost my rating one. I called AAMI to clarify and their answer was that as I took out the current policy online, I received a $100 discount but lost my rating as it was regarded as a new policy.

Everyone I think how this company works is to push HARD, bargain HARD, TRY VERY HARD
I have been an aami customer for years and had 2 claims, 1st one was an easy one as I was under the 3rd party policy
2nd one under full insurance, car got stolen, need to call them like EVERYDAY to PUSH the process. At the end I got paid out and haven't been waiting for long. It was all about PUSHING I think, without the work I couldn't got solved that quick.
Give credit where its due
I have heard countless stories where the claims process is long and painful, they put you on a run around to get the cheapest quotes, using shoddy repairers, etc.
I also notice a tendency to post reviews only when one has a bad experience. I will share my experience and tell it like how it is.
I have been AAMI for over 8 years now and did not make a claim up until last year when I eventually got into my first accident (nudged from the back).
I did the stock standard procedures by submitting as many photographs, driver licence details, ...etc – a fairly easy process when doing this online. My car was picked up by a tow truck the 2 days later sent off to an assessment centre and subsequently a week later, to Smash Care Wantirna, one of their preferred repairers. No option to pick a preferred repairer here which was minimal fuss to me anyway. The trip to Wantirna however is like 45 minutes from where I live. It would have been a value added service if they had worked this out geographically and from a convenience point of view.

I had a trolley driver damage my car while it was parked. 'Hit and Run' situation and there is shopping centre video evidence showing what happened. However, AAMI in their wisdom have decided to deem that the excess paid to have my car repair will not be refunded on the basis that I did not provide the at-fault person's details? How could I as I was not there when this happened. Seems like a clever way to avoid the work involved in clearing me and going after the trolley-company contractor's insurance company to pay for my damages. It this not part of the Insurance service?
