Muckup on their end this time.
Been with AAMI for 7 months now, never had an issue with my payments. There's always been money in the bank, for them to deduct the payments automatically. Wokeup this morning to an email, the payments been declined for insufficient funds LOL. Checked my bank money still in it, so had to manually process the payment through. If it wasn't AAMI fault, then I apologize. Only leaves one culprit then, Westpacs been messing around with my pennies ...tsk tsk tsk.
5 stars for the person in Melbourne 1 star for the call taker in the phillipines
Always been with AAMI and they are great. They are competitive on price for long term customers HOWEVER. They Now have call takers in the Philippines I almost left them because of this. They are hard to understand and even thought they try they can't trully empathise with a fire that has consumed my fence.
Disappointing resolution of their error.
Applied for a cover note for a $42,000 car. Answered all questions asked by the phone consultant. I wasn’t asked the value of the car, but thought nothing off of that since it’s a brand new car and so I just assumed they knew the price from their red book or whatever. Was asked were there “any extras”? Now in my decades of experience with purchasing and insuring cars, I know that ‘extras’ refers to modifications or additions to the car that aren’t standard, so my answer was “no”.
Got the cover note in the mail only to find that the amount insu...
Good insurance, keep coming back.
I've switched back to AAMI after living in NT (with TIO Car insurance) for 3 years.
Able to get a competative price for an under 25 driver and free roadside assistance for a year.
Very easy to request a quote and all handled thru email and the website.
2016 Mazda is covered for agreed value of $21,600 with a $600 excess and yearly $686.61.
Much cheaper than other insurers for young drivers.
Had 3 not at fault claims over the past 15 years. 1st one while we were shopping in a centre someone backed into our Yaris and crushed the whole back hatch, and did a runner. Had to pay an excess because we had not proof of who did it, but car was fixed within a few days. They organised a taxi home after dropping the car at their repairer Smart Centre.
2nd accident Mercedes rear ended me, crushed back hatch in. Again fast turnaround car fixed.
3rd accident near new Mazda 3 was totally written off by a ute cutting across me head on. This clai...
Has a Positive experience
I recently had an accident resulting in a front on collision, the other driver assumed responsibility. After taking relevant photos of the relevant sites, i initiated the process to exchange of details. I soon realised that the driver had an international drivers licence. Since this was foreign territory, I immediately called AAMI to see if what information I needed. Unfortunately, the information conveyed over the frantic phone call was not explicitly clear. The other driver incidentally showed me that they had an authorised translation of the...ir international licence. After taking photos of these documentation and exchanging details I proceed to lodge my claim with AAMI. I also asked the driver for a copy of their insurance policy (this was just an extra precaution- and I understand that some drivers will not oblige). After following the routine claim lodgement process, I was charged with a $600 excess, with the assurance that if the accident was identified as not my fault it would be refunded. I chose to get my car serviced at the Peakhurst (NSW) Smart location as the one closer to me had more negative reviews in comparison. In Retrospect majority of the service centres have some form of negative reviews, I guess this is customary. I read most of the positive and negative reviews on both google and other similar review sites, and concluded that the Peakhurst location was a good bet. In my situation I was not proven wrong, they were flexible and professional and not to mention quick, handed my car in on Friday morning at 7:30am, got a SMS Saturday saying it was ready to be picked up on Monday. A caveat being it was minor crack to the front bumper. As have comprehensive cover had uber rides to and from service center, work, and hire care (and these were over multiple days to suit my convenience). I wanted to give AAMI some props and say that they did a great, professional job with my accident and I relieved that the system works.
Read your PDS Thoroughly!
My wife had AAMI before we got married and have continued with them. She's had them for over 10 years. As a couple, we made 2 claims. One in 2017 (stolen vehicle), and 1 in Feb 2019.
The 2017 claim was pretty straight forward. Day of theft, called AAMI, paid excess and they sorted out a hire car for us. In the PDS it states that it's only for 2 weeks, and that's it. If you want to get it extended, it's unfortunately out of pocket. You can schedule your hire start date, but that's it. The car had to get re-keyed and some repairs done. The issu...e with the repairer was with the repairer (I reviewed them accordingly). Aami wasn't at fault for the lack of communication from the repairer or the time it took, so I don't blame them. Remember, Insurance companies are companies. Not friends. They're out to make money, not friends. Our 2019 claim was a no-fault accident (someone failed to give way). Again, I tried to get a hire car extended because of the North QLD floods, all repairers are busy as and if it had to go back to the same guys, it was going to take over a month. The first person I talked to didn't know about the no-fault clause in the PDS for unlimited hire car. I called again to request a different repairer closer to where the accident was and the rep. informed me of the no-fault car hire that is in the PDS. So make sure you read your PDS!

Not very happy with the chosen repairers
My car was stolen and then recovered later with some damages. AAMI was OK in every aspect but the repairing workshop they had chosen (named "5 star Panels") was terrible. Also AAMI was completely detached from the process of repairing. They could be more engaged and involved. Examples of how bad the repairs were, the bumper was loos making wobbling noise until I found the problem. Rear splashes were not installed causing the bumper to be loose. Air filtering compartment was missing from the car; something that any mechanic would notice right aw...ay. Engine was sucking the air directly from outside (air filter bypassed). And of course many minor issues such as car wheel covers replaced with some from a different model. I had to take the car back to the workshop 3 times over 3 months to resolve the obvious problems. I don't know if there are hidden problems but I can see a bit of instability on turns. Can't afford getting it fully checked ATM. I should be fair and state that the exterior painting was good. I also like to add that the car was stolen after my house was broken into and I am very satisfied with the AAMI's Building and Contents department. Meanwhile, their customer service (apart from the problem mentioned above) is really good.
Could be better
EDIT! I think all the insurance companies are much the same. Make sure if you get Comprehensive Car Insurance with AAMI you buy the unlimited (it is 21 days at most though) hire car, it could save your butt. They could be better with communication, some of their phone operators need to learn how to read files properly (more training), they need to call you back if they accidentally hang up on you after leaving you on hold for 30 minutes. The "free taxi" service they offer actually involves you paying for the taxi and them reimbursing you, which seemed more trouble than it was worth.
There are probably worse insurance companies tbh. Would be nice if they all improved their service considering how much money they make off us.
Claim process is good
Bit expensive in comparison to Budget Direct and Bingle. But claim process is quick and they don’t ask for unnecessary paperwork. Peace of mind to pay bit more.

Does NOT offer vehicle towing
Bought AAMI roadside assist along with the insurance. They were the most affordable I could find, but one day my car was bogged in sand and I called roadside assist, and they said they don't do bogs. They do flat batteries, flat tyres, but not bogs. I had to call RAC and sign up with their roadside assist to get unbogged. I'm going RAC in the future.
Nothing but a good experience
Ive been with Aami for years. Aami give me the best price possible but I have had great customer service from each person I have spoken too. I cant fault Aami from my experience.
Expensive but pays out
On the one hand, they are expensive. On the other hand, I had to make two claims - one when someone damaged my car and another under a home contents cover - and I received compensation without much resistance. So we did get something in return.
HAPPPY WITH AAMI
i have been with AAMI for many years and claimed a couple of times and had no problems. the people i have spoken to have been very helpful, never found to be rude.we have all our cars and house and contents with them
Really good service and would recommend
Easy to setup and and good customer service, also used their road site assistance.
Once I had drove down to south side and must have had a bad battery and could not start the car again.
called AAMI and they were able to get a tech within 1 hour.
Have no branch, hard to contact.
Initially the policy was good value for money and used to go into the branch to pay and talk about the policy, ever since branch closed down, hard to contact people over the phone about claims and policy changes. wait for ages and sometimes not even helpful.
Happy with service, having had one crash and one repair issue during my time with AAMI
For some it could be a negative that the repairs can only go through their service centre,
for me however it suits just fine as the service centre is close to my job.
I sometimes found their phone service a little bit frustrating, but no more so than any other large company.
I needed to get my insurance transferred over on the same day i bought my new car, I asked for a call back and received one very shortly afterwards.
I was pretty stoked that my insurance could easily be transferred from my now written off car to my new one.
The only other complaint is that, once my car was written off, i had only a matter of days before i needed to find a new one. That felt a little bit burdensome. ...All in all, a good experience and I am sticking with AAMI.

No problems so far
With awareness of generally critical reviews such as those here, I took out a policy with AAMI years ago, they were hundreds of dollars cheaper than my previous insurer, QBE. Until about a month ago, I'd not made a claim. In terms of making the claim, I phoned rather than doing it online. The person I spoke to was very helpful, and we organised the repairer to look at car the next day. I emailed in some photos as requested. One week later, the repairer took the car are fixed the damage. After five days, I drove away happy.
All in all, it wa...s really easy to deal with AAMI. That said, nothing went wrong in the whole process, and the car could still be driven before being repaired. Also, there's only a couple of repairers where I live, both of which have good reviews. So the chance of a poor job was reduced. For now, I'm a happy customer.
Worked out ok for me
Have had 2 claims in the last 2 years. First one was me reversing out the drive way, a car speeding down the steep hill hit the back of my car. I’m at fault apparently- even though I have proof they were speeding...... Any way lodged a claim- had to wait a few weeks to get my car in to get repaired and got it back within 4 days. Taxi to and from my work which was a good feature. Best tip - make sure you fill out the taxi voucher- as both times the taxi drivers told me just to sign and they would take care of the details....REALLY??? I don’t thi...nk so!! Second claim was for windscreen damage - when it cracked. Lucky I had windscreen cover as it would have been over $1000 to replace due to cameras attached to the front screen. They deal with windscreens O’Brien ( who by the way I would not rate well for customer service) the job eventually got done, no fault of AAMI- but the windscreen mob!! It’s still nice to be able to ri g some one up and get it sorted over the phone- no messy paperwork or excessive mucking around. I will stick with them- they are still giving me cheaper quotes than other places.

24/7 phone service, great customer service
I compared all insurance for comprehensive quote, Aami was the cheapest, amazing customer service, got my quote for $978, however I was able to get a further $50 discount over the phone, in addition a further discount for driving less than 10,000 kms per year bring it down to $800. Amazing price
Questions & Answers
I had a trolley driver damage my car while it was parked. 'Hit and Run' situation and there is shopping centre video evidence showing what happened. However, AAMI in their wisdom have decided to deem that the excess paid to have my car repair will not be refunded on the basis that I did not provide the at-fault person's details? How could I as I was not there when this happened. Seems like a clever way to avoid the work involved in clearing me and going after the trolley-company contractor's insurance company to pay for my damages. It this not part of the Insurance service?
How do you decide who is at fault for collision
It goes by the road laws. For example, if the other person was supposed to give way and you were already in the intersection, then the other person is at fault.
Hi Wendy! Well it depends if you think fault of the other party, of course they will fight for you but it needs justification. Proof thanks
Why is my claim review taking so long I am homless and live out the car I suffer a neurological disease that causes me to stutter AAMI thought they put the call on hold but took it off for me to hear them picking on my stutter saying nnnnooooo moooonnnnneeeyyyy fffffooooorrrrr hhhhimmmm I have contacted 2gb and am contacting channel 9 I just wanted to hurt myself after hearing the mocking and have only just been released from hospital
Underwritten by the Suncorp Network, AAMI offers four car insurance policies: CTP green slip for NSW, ACT and SA, Comprehensive, Third Party Property Damage Only, and Fire, Theft and Third Party Property Damage.
Points of praise for AAMI:
- AAMI's top score was given for its timeliness in responding to claims.
- Friendly and personable customer service was appreciated. Two customers reported AAMI ‘going above and beyond’ by helping them generously during times of financial hardship.
- Multiple reviewers reported that AAMI offered to organise Ubers from the repairer to and from their homes. Others enjoyed a smooth and hassle-free experience when making claims, with quick response times from AAMI.
Pain points with AAMI:
- AAMI’s chosen repairers and roadside-assist contractors were thought to be low quality
- Premiums increasing considerably even with no claims being made (this increase in premiums appeared to also apply to customers who had taken out multiple policies with AAMI, e.g. home and contents insurance along with car insurance).
