AAMI took away all my choices and left me stranded on Tuesday night.
Last week in the wind something blew into my car making small dents in 3 panels.
I spoke to insurance and told them I wasn't sure if I wasn't to claim... so they said they'd assess and go from there.. OK. I explained to everyone I don't know how this works
Today I got a call telling me it was a write off- I could never in a million years imagine that... The average price of this model is $15.000- the repair quote was $5000
So I told them I wanted to think about what to do next, I may just get it repaired privately since the insured amount would...
Still have to pay insurance policy even when car written off
Car insured with AAMI for 5 years. Car in accident and written off. When accessing the claim amount they deducted the remaining 4 months insurance for a car that doesn't exist. Are you serious. Sure charge a cancellation fee but don't charge all the remaining insurance for a car that is gone to the Car Gods.
Have 2 comprehensive vehicle insurance policies with AAMI, made a claim this year for minor damage caused by another vehicle whose details i had. I found the claim process quick and painless l did refuse to accept their 1st preference repairer and was escalated to a manager where i argued for another repairer l was familiar with for good work who was also a registered AAMI repairer but not promoted by AAMI. I had a hire car arranged and taxi to/from repairer. Based on my experience and I'm not someone who tolerates bad service I couldn't fault my experience and would recommend.
Only downside is their premiums increase by double digit % annually however if you call their c/s agent does have authority to reduce by 3%-5%.
AAMI does not
No value for money ,they have worked hard not to help.AAMI like to hide key information in the back pages. I do not trust them and will not use them again.
Corner cutting repairs (WHISTLEBLOWER INFO)
I worked for AAMI 99 walker Street North Sydney and whilst I was there in their motor claims department I realised aami would allow their customers to obtain a quote and then they would show that quote to their own repairer to undercut the quote to ensure they chose the repairer. Now as for capital smart when it was introduced their capital smart facilities although not aami suncorp as a parent company own a percentage of AMS Group and Capital Smart with Jim Vais if your car goes to a capital smart you'll be met with a smile and all happiness b...ut let me tell you this I know panel beaters who work in capital smart facilities Instead of them spray painting the high fillers (primer) they use paint rollers to apply the high fill (google it the info from others is out there its true) secondly they blend clear coats all automotive paint specialists and paint reps will tell you "you can blend your base coats but never can blend your clear coats" for those wondering your base coat is your color ie. Red white blue metallic paints you can blend these however if you blend clear coats what happens is a faded line will appear eventually and lead to clear coat flaking away and we all seen cars where the clear is flaking usually from a half assed repair. Secondly capital smart shops do NOT properly remove panels or bumpers to allow proper painting they will go as far as they can to save money for their share holders so yes they will use masking tape and mask up door handles door moulds and what happens is you get a painters edge (paint line build up as high as the masking tape) around your door handle or door moulds and in afew months or year or so it will start to flake. If you are insured with aami change to a insurer who allows choice of repairer and when you choose the repairer ensure they are a reputable repairer in which their scope of works may include painting and repairing high end vehicles OR car restorations as any smash repairer who does restorations on old classics like old muscle cars or hot rods they will easily give you the best paint and repair finish you can get aami have throughout the years been over the news for their shonky repairs and corner cutting and seeing I have worked both insurance and assessing and smash repairs myself I would stay clear of every suncorp brand of insurance Stay clear of: Vero Bingle Gio Apia Aami Suncorp
Not lucky to be with AAMI
I made a claim late September 2020. It was a accident caused by a animal. My car was picked up and kept for at least 3 weeks to get repaired. My car gets towed back the tow truck driver asked what did they actually fix? I was like well the gearbox but that was it. The car needed bonnet and bumper fixed. I drive to my friends which is 80k’s I hear this loud scraping. I quickly pull over and see half the bumper is hanging onto my tire scraping it as I am driving. I contact AAMI when I get home. Two weeks now and no one has contacted me back. Real...ly bad after care and getting the job done properly. So now I am on the hunt for a better insurer. AAMI is owned by Suncorp banking it’s a QLD Company that does not live by its ads. More like unlucky to be with AAMI and if you are better hope you never get to experience this terrible service. This is how my car came back.
Unbelievable experience. Absolutely disgraceful and shonky.
Brand new vehicle less than 700km on clock. Hit from behind and spun damaging left side passenger wheel. Forced to go to their repairer. Went to pick up some of my gear. Found some property laying on driveway beside vehicle. Left some property in vehicle which was apparently stolen during the repair process which is now in it's 6th week. Advised car okay to pick up today. Refused to accept it as still damage on vehicle and trim not fitting properly. Wheel that was damaged in accident and I demanded it be replaced was found in spare wheel compar...tment. Been with Aami for nearly 40 years for car and home insurance. Paint does not match. Told they can't get it to match. Disgusted with their service this time. Today I have been advised the missing gear has been found, but only after I rang the assessor to discuss the situation with him. Surely good customer service would have meant that they rang me to advise me it was found. I again asked why I was not allowed choice of repairer as I have never had this issue with previous claims. I was then advised that I could have obtained other quotes but I still had to go to their repairer and could not go to one I know would do a good job and pay the difference. Apart from this no one has responded to the complaint I lodged with them last Wednesday so I can only assume that they don't care for their customers. I can only say do NOT insure your car with anyone in the AAI group as it will not be a pleasant experience.
Easy and no red tapes regarding claims
I would like to thank this insurance for their excellent customer service and of course for processing my claims so quickly. I took me only few minutes to claim for my car repair and booked me in straight away for repair. I’m very happy that I decided to insured my car with AAMI. So for those looking for good insurance, this insurance is highly recommended. A+++

13 Months - 80k lost.
13 months they refused to admit my flooded car couldn't be repaired. They were just forced to scrap the car last week by AFCA. Lookup AFCA Determination 703903. They had the car for 9 of 13 months and I lost my job. These people are sick and twisted, laughing at my distress in call recordings telling me I'm being silly. You cannot trust them to assess your car, treat you like a human, you cannot trust them to update you, you cannot trust they will comply with the Privacy Act, they may conspire with manufacturers to make sure you cannot mount a defence.
I have been with AAMI for the last 5 or 6 years, could be more. Always very helpful and great on roadside assistance. When I lodged claims they take all the pressure off. Even through these toughs times gave me a great deal and discount, being off work. Much appreciated.
5 stars for the person in Melbourne 1 star for the call taker in the phillipines
Always been with AAMI and they are great. They are competitive on price for long term customers HOWEVER. They Now have call takers in the Philippines I almost left them because of this. They are hard to understand and even thought they try they can't trully empathise with a fire that has consumed my fence.
steer away from AAMI, they only us their own repairers
I am shocked with the experience I had with AAMI during this car claim:
not being able to take it to my preferred repairer, have to use their repairer
the extensive delay is in acceptable (2 months and no progress)
the lady AAMI operator offered no help, rude and unprofessional, kept on interrupting the conversation and eventually hung up on me
Near enough is good enough attitude
To whom it may concern,
My recent experience with AAMI has been both extremely disappointing and underwhelming. From the very beginning, there was a lack of competence and errors in administration which was put down to being a busy time because the hail storm which affected my vehicle, had also affected 1000’s more. (fair enough)
During the four and a half months it took to repair my vehicle, the feedback was near nonexistent, unless I called AAMI to chase up the progress myself. On a few occasions, I was told my vehicle was at a certain loca...
Aami is slack, 0/10 would recommend!
Not happy with AAMI at all!!
I was on a payment plan due to a 3rd party car accident and was set up on a payment plan.
The total excess was $1050 and have paid $950 and was due to pay the last $100.
Only to be told I owe them $500 and only paid them $450, which wasnt correct as ive already paid for it.
Ive called them at least 8 times to sort out the issue as ive either been palmed off to somebody else or have them to tell me to call "AAMI policy"
I also had contacted them asking where my $500 , all for them to make up excuses and saying they cant refund me the money yet. Also changing the story at the very last minute that iill take 6 wks to process and transfer....
Fast forward to 8 wks later.....still no refund was made!...
Very good customer service and swifty repair
Car hit by someone's car so needed to make claim. Claim online application was easy and fast. Customer Service rep followed up very promptly. Repair was swifty and done in one day while new bumper, reverse senor and side panel required. Uber for free to and from repair center. Repair center staff were nice and professional. Been through different insurers but AAMI has given best experience.
The worst Company ever!
It is 3 months since I was hit at the back and the repair is still on going. There is absolutely no followup from AAMI. They pick the shiftiest repairers. I was asked to pick up the car and the tailgate wont even open. The tail lamps were all chipped. Wrong part fitted. Seats damaged. The damage was just minor but the they destroyed the whole vehicle. Not to mention that mine was a three year old Land Rover.
I gave a full report to AAMI and they even did not respond to my report. When I call them, they blame the repairer. The repairer is incom...petent in all ways and rude. I was even told by the customer representative that the hire car wont be extended because I have decided not to pick the car! I had to argue with them for over 1 hour to finally get the hire car extended. They say you can track the repair online. It is an absolute lie! The only thing I can see online is that my carhas been towed. When I enquired about that, the answer was that "it was the repairer who needs to do it". Even after three months the status is only as towing completed. No customer service. They chase me for excess even when I am not at fault, and provided all the information of the parties involved in the collission. That is the only time AAMI ever contacted me. All other time I had to call them and deal with a rude customer service agent. They wont even let you talk to the manager. After trying many many times I was able to talk to the manager who is worst than all of them! I am still in the chase of getting my car fixed. The repairer fits substandard parts, not even genuine and AAMI support them! You are unlucky that you are with AAMI
Is this company going to survive?
Have been with AAMI for over 10 years. Car severely damaged several weeks ago and getting no response to repeated enquiries about the progress of the claim. According to the website the claim was approved weeks ago.
Was once a good service but sadly no longer
After claiming for writing off car in early Feb, I was made to pay the excess up front. Since then I have had no contact from them as to when they will payout my claim. When I call their claims dept they say I have to speak to the "Total Loss department". No one ever answers the phone but apparently my call is very important to them ... haha. I have emailed them - no response. Written to their complaints - no response. I'm getting worried, Its starting to feel like they have cash flow problems ?
Aami -efficient, quick and wonderful service
I have been with many insurance company in my lifetime . I must say AAMI have been nothing but amazing . Both times I was in minor car accidents, I had no trouble getting my claims . It was so simple and quick ! They even offered Uber service to and from home. So thank u once again from the bottom of my heart AAMI.
Making a written of claim. Poor communication and no follow up
My car had recently had an accident and I make a claim with them. I took my car to their suggested repair center the next day they told me they had to transfer it to their own repair center. After that there has been no communication from them. I had to call and found out that my car has been escalated to be written off with no formal communication from them. I call again after a week and was told to either to call there written off team or wait 10 to 14 business days. Its been 3 weeks and I still could not reach there written off team as there is a await time of 1 hr and you have to tired of waiting. Still chasing them terrible service on.
Still Waiting after 3 weeks for my write off payment!
My car was written off by aami in 6th Feb after hail damage. Aami advised they would call within 3 days and ask for bank details. After no call in 12 days I called them and gave my details on 19/02. It’s now 25/02 and I’ve had no call, no payment. Not good enough aami, you were quick to take my payment of the excess, and to tell me there was no refund on the unused portion of my 10 day old insurance premium. Pay up now please.
Had a really smooth experience with AAMI, from the initial claims call, follow up txts and emails, to sorting a rental car while mine was being repaired. They organised Ubers from the repairer to the rental place and back. Even the repairer Capital Smart was very professional. Used to be with Coles, AAMI is far better.
misleading advertising of rating 1 so beware all you loyal aami customers
Insured with AAMI for over 30 years for comprehensive car, home and contents policy.
Lodged my first motor vehicle claim in 29 years, (only minor damage), i am a rating 1 customer which states my premium will not go up because of lodging a claim whether its an at fault, or due to weather.
Claim lodged, premium goes up 34%, i queried this twice with AAMI and the response is if you hold a life-time rating one with AAMI, any claims you make (at-fault, not at fault, natural weather events, etc) don't affect the next year's premium. so when i as...
Great company who have quick response times. Whole family of 5 have all policies with Aami for many years. Recently had to make a claim for the Canberra hail storms and whole issue was resolved within 14days from start to finish.
I have gone to other firms but keep coming back. By far the best, most hassle-free when making claims. Great service, no fuss. I've been lucky to be with Aami!
