good, reliable insurance company
we are with AAMI many years (7?)
we insure all with them. Last car accident showed how diligent they are. Call-orginised the car repar-orginise car transporting-free taxi;
they or their repair company inform us in every stage.
I've been with this insurance for 3 years. Had to claim a small accident with another driver at fault. AAMI organized everything for me (repair, taxi) within one week. Happy to continue being with AAMI
Not Lucky to be with AAMI
I have been with AAMI for 20 years and the way they have a handled my claim has been nothing but disgusting, I was hit in the back of my van and was not my fault but since the person who hit me is with AAMI and I am with AAMI they sent it to an special inspector team to which they try and get out of paying any damages, the car steering stop working after the accident a couple of days later and they said it was not accident related but would not let mercedes run a test to see if it was related, they talk to you like you are a criminal and I have...spent hours on the phone everyday trying to find out where my van is and what is going on only to be told a different story each time, Never deal with [name removed] from the vehicle inspector or [name removed] from management rudiest people I have ever spoke too, not only have they had the car for two weeks, not being fixed but they have also said they can not extend the car rental further even thou they are the ones holding my car. Never go with AAMI if you want your car fix I will be taking this to the Ombudsman.
poor customer service
Some one drove into my car this morning. I spent 40 mins on phone to some chick in the Phillipines who couldn't understand a word I said. I asked to be transferred to Australia. I was given the name of a repairer to contact; who I later found out had never worked for AAMi and been out of business for 3 years. I rang back to AAMi on a land line number to ensure I could be understood. I was told to take my car an hours drive away to be repaired. What a joke. She has now gone to find someone local. I have been on the phone another 25 minutes..... ...she has disappeared!!!! Awful customer service. Will be changing my insurer. 1 hr 35 minutes to try and sort this nonsense. I have been a customer with AAMi for years, they take my money and have no smash repair service centre south of the river in Perth. Will be cancelling you as soon as this is sorted
- Car Insurance - Comprehensive
Hopeless, one screw up after another, dodgy repairers as well.
You get what you pay for, in fact less than what you paid for. Sent in car for repairs. Was told big damage will need 7-10 working days to fix. Fine, AAMI extended my loan car until after I get back from overseas work trip. The day before I leave Capital (not so) Smart repairer calls and says you must pick up car today. I say, not possible, I'm working until after hours. They say they can't keep the car in the yard, it won't be insured. AAMI say the same thing. Not my fault, if I hadn't answered your call, I would have been overseas and not bee...n able to pick up my car. They say you have to pick up today. No leeway at all. I cancel my patients for the afternoon to pick up car. Lost income. Pick up the car to find stuff chucked around, damaged GPS unit, missing press stud on multiple panels and scratched roof trim. All of which is denied by Capital Smart. Escalated with AAMI, eventually repairer sends me press studs to repair myself but deny that they damaged internal trim. It just so happens to be in the same vicinity as where they were working and somehow magically appeared between when I sent the car in for repairs and when I picked it up from them. So basically they are saying I'm lying. Currently escalating with AAMI and waiting for response. Their first assessor was utterly useless and basically ignored my calls and the 2nd repairer's calls and quote. Once the issues have been dealt with I'm taking my business elsewhere.
Claims process is terrible
Thankfully I am covered but the claims process is more painful than the accident itself.
Getting into an accident is stressful enough - but having to then deal with their claims department is just icing on the cake.
They expect that someone who has had 3 accidents in 20 years should know what to do in the heat of the moment... I rang them on the spot and was told I was in the queue and the wait time was 40 minutes.
Did what I could but apparently didn't do it right so they made me pay an excess even though I was not at fault.
AAMI are terrible.
Don’t Insure with Aami
I have a comprehensive car insurance policy with Aami. I was involved in an accident in April, 2019. It took Aami four days to transfer my car to the smash repairer. Then it took the assessor one and a half weeks to assess the car. This is because they tried to get cheaper quote from the repairer.
The repairer still has my car which I gave in on 15th April and has not started repairs. They told me that they will not start repairs until another two to three weeks. This means it will be at least TWO MONTHS after they start repairing my car. The ...
Have had house and car with AAMI for many years and good past experience so was surprised when submitting claim last week. Claim consultant had very poor English and had to repeat myself several times and spell out simple words. Car has simple underbody damage to engine part which local non AAMI repairer could fix in 24 hours. AAMI took car to panel shop when told no panel damage where it has remained for a week without even being looked at. When called AAMI said that’s our process and could be three weeks after quote for repairs. Not good enough. Previously aami had prompt and efficient service now it’s rubbish.
Once a great insurer now the bottom of the heap!
I have a brand new $131,000 car. Unfortunately got the rear window broken and a small chip in the tailgate. Car is garaged in Queenscliff. But now I find out that AAMI has shut its Geelong repair and assessment facilities. So off I go 140 Kms to Melbourne. The jobs done and it looks like a four year old child did it. The car's name was replaced and it is so wonky it's an embarrassment to drive the car. The paint job was of a similar standard. By the way, I paid extra for glass replacement but was still charged $650 excess.
The repair shop agre...es that its a poor job but I want to go somewhere else. So I complain to AAMI - promises but no response. Next day, I send photos on the online claim site. Still no response. After an hour of deflection on the phone and "sorry your not happy" and an hour of hearing "You're so lucky you're with AAMI" - really? So they want me to drive 140 kms to an assessor and 140 kms back because they don't service anywhere except the Melbourne eastern suburbs. Then I'll have to drive 140 kms there and 140 kms back for it to be repaired.
Happy with AAMI Comprehensive Car Insurance
I have had AAMI Comprehensive Car Insurance on my Kia Rio since I bought it in 2012 and have been happy with their willingness to give me a discount for being a good driver. My previous car was written off in an accident and they paid it all back to me so was happy with that. Their phone staff have always been helpful with me so I've been happy with that.
Completely disappointed with my car insurance claim. We were not at fault. The claims people just said if we came out to a large street from a small street you are autocratically at fault. So you expect us to to never come out of a small street?
Don’t expect us to use AAMI ever again and will recommend anyone against this company who asks. Happy to move to another insurance company and even pay more to not deal with these people. Lucky I won’t be with AAMI.
Very happy with aami car insurance
Have had aami insurance for over twelve years and have had two family cars written off in this time and they have been great with follow up each time. Highly recommend.
Hide main things when you sign up
I was involved in an accident and the car was written off. They rang me and said that we are going to give you the agreed value. But we will be deducting the remaining premium money in my case 7 months worth of insurance premium. Also that wasn't end so they also claimed left over registration on car which is 11 months.
So in the end i paid total of 1800 including the excess.
No one told me all this until something happened.
Ripping people of by hiding the truth and what they will sign you up with.
Unlucky with AAMI
Vehicle was an economical write off through theft but perfectly driveable.
The pay out was less than market rate as can be expected with insurance companies but I purchased the vehicle back for salvage as its perfectly driveable and not been crashed.
Its taken over 72 hours for them to organise a tow from the holding yard and still no end in sight.
Between incompetent AAMI and their tow truck vendors and the salvage yard I wouldnt trust any of them to sit the correct way around on a toilet seat.
I would like to allocate ZERO stars
AVOID this company and take your business else where.
A company that only cares about themselves and what they will NOT pay.
Customer service (claim team) is based in the Philippines, but claim is processed onshore. What this means is the people who take your claim on the phone provide you wrong advises that leads to disappointment when claim is being processed by a completely different, yet company biased standard. Their policy on what’s paid and what’s not paid is very mean and biased, basically their payment is based on the rationale of “you shouldn’t be better off from the claim” (word to word quote from their claim processing specialist), and obviously it’s none...of their business that you’re worse off because “that’s life”(as above). I was given an example on the provision of replacement vehicle during repair: “ we do like for like replacement in car hire, if your car is a Corrola, we are not going to hire you a BMW” (Ok, fair enough). When I asked that if my car is a BMW that’s going in for repair, does this mean I could hire a luxury car such as BMW as a like for like replacement? the answer was “well a BMW is very expensive to hire”, in another word, NO. A company that is driven by a culture as such Is willing to sacrifice a lot to beef up their profit, and that includes your trust and hard earned money. So Unless youre certain that you’ll never make a claim, RUN, as far away as you can.
AAMI has zero customer service
AAMI you have kept me on hold for so long that I have time to search the review sites, choose one and write this review. 45 minutes I have waited and have just been told "someone will get back to you within 24-48hours". This is exactly why I called today . Sixteen days ago you told me that my claim had been escalated and that I would be called back within 24-48hours. Do you people think that by not calling or helping that I will go away? I have purchased insurance through AAMI for car, home and contents for many years and this is the treatment...that you think I deserve? The quote that I have been given to replace my vehicle was $6,537. The car, according to all available sites which I know you use to source your value as the assessor explained this to me, should be given a value in excess of $9,000. The car was in mint condition, no scratches or dents. In fact if I were to go to the AAMI website and enter my details , irrespective of the condition of the car, you would accept a value of $9,600 for insurance. I need to replace the car with an equivalent vehicle not one that the greedy assessors think 'will do'.
AAMI you're a joke
My car was written off by another vehicle while parked. AAMI assessors have given me ridiculously low quotes to replace my vehicle. I have asked for my claim to be escalated and as a result a self gratifying and patronising person called me in attempt to talk me down in price.I wondered why the tow truck driver warned me to be ready for AAMI to beat me down in price. Now I know what he meant. I have asked for my claim to be escalated further and have now been waiting on hold for 25minutes. Once I have this resolved I will be taking all our vehicle and home and contents insurance elsewhere. Never to return!
AAMI you're a joke.
Our claim is still ongoing, they have had the quote for over two weeks, and we are told they will ring in the next day or so to resolve the claim. This never happens, they are dragging the chain to payout or fix our vechile.
Read your PDS Thoroughly!
My wife had AAMI before we got married and have continued with them. She's had them for over 10 years. As a couple, we made 2 claims. One in 2017 (stolen vehicle), and 1 in Feb 2019.
The 2017 claim was pretty straight forward. Day of theft, called AAMI, paid excess and they sorted out a hire car for us. In the PDS it states that it's only for 2 weeks, and that's it. If you want to get it extended, it's unfortunately out of pocket. You can schedule your hire start date, but that's it. The car had to get re-keyed and some repairs done. The issu...e with the repairer was with the repairer (I reviewed them accordingly). Aami wasn't at fault for the lack of communication from the repairer or the time it took, so I don't blame them. Remember, Insurance companies are companies. Not friends. They're out to make money, not friends. Our 2019 claim was a no-fault accident (someone failed to give way). Again, I tried to get a hire car extended because of the North QLD floods, all repairers are busy as and if it had to go back to the same guys, it was going to take over a month. The first person I talked to didn't know about the no-fault clause in the PDS for unlimited hire car. I called again to request a different repairer closer to where the accident was and the rep. informed me of the no-fault car hire that is in the PDS. So make sure you read your PDS!
Life time repair guarantee is piece of crap

But it’s not been done properly have quality issue now they want me to go to Mercedes and pay from my pocket to get it fit properly it’s been over the month now
I will recommend never go with them
Unlucky to be hit by a AAMI customer
Our car met an accident of an AAMI customer in 29th November. We where sent to capital smart repairs. After days of wait they bought all the necessary parts for the car. The car was ready after 3 days. We went to pick the car up to only find the car with bunch of scratches, sticky paint - paint wasn't dried yet, noisy boot struts, loose boot lining, foam coming off from the third tail light on the glass. Called up AAMI they arranged an inspection - coz they don't trust us. Assessor told us to go back - even tho I protested saying they scratch t...he car and don't fix the issue either. He convinced us and gave his assurance. We went back to capital smart repairs. They called us after 3 days, and said the car was ready. My wife picked up the car and she was pushed to do a quick inspection and under stress she couldn't inspect the car properly, only to find the trip has not been fixed properly, we had two big scratches on the side of the car, car was over-sprayed all over, was machine polished on some sides with large obvious swirls on it, random small scratches and a loose bumper. It was a nightmare. We were asked to go to another repairer. Evaluator refused to acknowledge that capital smart had caused the scratches, swirls and the loose bumper - tried to save some money for AAMI. After lots of explaining, with him showing a rude face to us, he agreed to fix the swirls - which I think are easy to fix, but didn't agree that the loose bumper ( which was part of the repair) was a fault. This is insane. We have wasted our time, money and lost our mental peace coz of AAMI. I feel like suing them for them for mental agony they have given me. I have panic attacks when I hear their name or call them to argue. Its march - its been 3 months and yet we don't have the issue fixed. And yes they have not acknowledged.
Recently had to have hail repairs done to my 2 year old Suzuki Swift.Took my car to Bella Vista assessing as arranged, repairs were booked for following week..As we live about 90km from repair centre ,they arranged a truck to pick up from my home and returned three days later, looking like new again! (also cleaned).
Cannot fault there service.
Can't fault the service AAMI Insurance delivers.
Have been with AAMI insurance for 5 years and can say with confidence they are a great Insurance company. I live in Country Victoria and consequently had 3 accidents involving Kangaroos within 18 months and AAMI have been marvelous !!. They checked I was ok first and then went straight into organizing a tow truck, I picked the crash repair company and they got my vehicle fixed & back promptly. Recently my vehicle was written off and again AAMI was marvelous. Would thoroughly recommend AAMI Insurance.
Shocking! Stay away from all Suncorp Insurance Brands
Was unfortunate enough to have to claim with my insurer AAMI and can say that I would not recommend them to my worst enemy!
In November 2018 I was involved in a simple not at fault accident. A driver failed to give way which resulted in moderate damage to both vehicles. The other driver lodged a claim with their insurer Allianz and they agreed to cover all costs of repair to my car.
I had made a claim to my insurer AAMI and my car was towed to their repairer. I was aware that I did not have choice of repairer but assumed that my insurer woul...d have a repair network capable of completing such a simple repair to a high standard. I was very very wrong in my assumption. Their repairer has butchered my car that is not even 2 years old. Paint work was completed to a poor standard, non genuine screws and clips have been used which has meant my front bumper does not sit flush, there are bits of dust throughout the paint and the bumper protector under my car sits crocked as it was not installed properly. The paint has also started to bubble in places after less than three months. Some clips and screws used have started to rust. I informed the repairer of my issues and they attempted to rectify them but did a poor touch up job. I then informed AAMI of my issues and they insisted they had an assessor attend my house or work. The assessor came and did not tell me what would happen going forward. I then get a call from the repairer almost 3 weeks later asking to have another look at the car as the assessor has instructed them to. The assessor ignored the fact I had already given them the opportunity to fix the issues.
Be adamant with what you expect
Have been insured with AAMI for about five years and this was my first claim. The process of making my claim on line was straight forward, but when it came to speaking to someone, even though they were polite, words like access were made instead of excess and that is how the conversation went. I was also given other incorrect information, like I had to get a code from each repairer and forward it to AAMI. The assessment from each of the designated repairers differed greatly and so I emailed AAMI stating which repairer I wanted to repair my c...ar. Fortunately I was listened to and was sent to the repairer of my choice (Freeway Smash Repairs) and couldn’t have been more pleased with the work that they carried out. Thank you AAMI for listening to me
