Acer Aspire E5

Hard drive dying within three years. Cheap plastic and HEAVY – A customer brought this to me to see why it was so slow. I could tell immediately that the hard disk drive in the model had hit the 'slippery slope of doom' as I call it. Once that starts it's game over for the HDD. Just replace it or get a new one. The customer chose the latter. I usually find a hard drive will last for 5-6 years before… Read more
starting to die so three is very premature. Too early in my opinion. But I bet Acer know this. Technically the notebook is still under warranty with Acer and the customer could have demanded the drive be a replaced with an SSD but the process for getting that done, even after the nightmare of warranties under COVID, means they didn't want to hassle. So I'll probably refurbish it with an SSD and maybe a customer in need can get a few more years out of it.
It's also very cheap feeling and quite heavy. It even has a DVD drive and a VGA port so it's not exactly a lightweight slim model. Quite the opposite. The screen is garbage too unfortunately with a massive bezel.
There's only one RAM slot in it too so the notebook has basically been hobbled from the beginning being unable to utilise dual channel performance. Even given it's price tag I would have expected a second RAM slot to be available - just get rid of the DVD drive and the VGA port and spend the money on the ram mounting. I do wonder about the manufacturer's design priorities sometimes. Sigh.
Don't buy Acer – Junk unit, had a Asus bought in 2012 beats Acer hands down in everyway but was coerced bye HN staff it's a great unit bla bla regret purchase very poor Quality as stated in other reviews. Show details
Plastic Trash – Seems like a good product on paper. Priced as value for money with competitive specs: Intel i7, 8gb RAM, decent graphics card, 1TB storage and up to date windows 10 and bluetooth tech. Value for money! The laptop seemed to work fine, until its cheap design became apparent. The laptop completely broke on 2 separate occasions in 2 years of owning… Read more
it. The hinges, made of cheap, cheap plastic, completely broke apart. Simply closing it enough times creates this problem! No dropping or breaking, just closing it! Which is insane as a laptop is made to be opened and closed...
First time it broke, Acer support fixed it and sent it back. 6months later.. Thats not even a year la ter, the hinges started to break and fall apart again, but this time both sides came apart, exposing wires and destroying the connectivity abilities. $1000 on a laptop that didn't last 2 years before being thrown in the bin. Cheap design with major flaws. Will never buy another ACER product.
Useless from the word go – It's always got something wrong with it from the beginning, first, the battery was beeping all the time even though was on charge all night, then it would shut down and say my window wall is broken and it logs out automatically not allowing you to save your work, too many things wrong than this forum allows you to write. Haven’t been more frustrated in my life – I went into Harvey Norman to purchase a HP computer which was advertised in there catalogue. The salesman tactfully coeced me by showing my the 2 hard drives & that the Acer has a SSD hard dive. He then tells me that the Acer is a refurbished computer cause they were recalled due to a faulty memory stick. The computer is still brand new & has the… Read more
same warranty. Well it didn’t work from the day we purchased it as it would constantly shut off & the graphics went all haywire & would lock the screen losing all the data. Went back & was told it was a graphics update which will fix the problem. We wanted to swap it for the HP we originally went in for which they refused & would only replace with another Acer. We did & the screen had dead pixels so we returned it. We took back the original Acer which the tech claims did not shut down or see any problems when transferring the data. Have checked the reviews & others have had the same issue. Stay away from Acer
Haven't been more frustrated in my life – Didn't work from the get go. Would randomly and without warning shut off, causing me to lose any work I had open at the time. I sent the unit off to get fixed 4 times (taking a combined 7 weeks) and the problem persisted every time. 7 months later the resolution (after sending it back for the fifth time and another week and a half) is store credit… Read more
for the same or lesser Acer model that I definitely don't want. I would not only recommend against getting this particular unit but would steer clear of Acer all together unless you love not being able to use the product you spent $1000 on and enjoy spending your days listening to hold music on Acer support. What a joke.
Acer Laptop Great laptop – I bought this laptop while my Lenovo was getting repaired and I really wish I had bought this one first its a great laptop for the price I would recommend this to everyone I use this way more than my Lenovo. It is nothing flash but it is good for day to day use like emails facebook and online shopping its also good for games as well and for the price its a good laptop. Show details
This laptop is the best I have ever had! Don't buy a chromebook!! – Bought this device about 2 weeks ago and I love it! It has a very good touch pad and features. The 8 gigabytes of RAM means you can throw a lot at the CPU and it takes it like a champ! It is surprisingly good for light-medium gaming, even with all settings on high! Web browsing and media is a very pleasant experience. Show details
Good Laptop For General Household Use – Nice user friendly laptop for home use like skype or social networking or buying stuff from internet. Good for using microsoft words and other microsoft softwares. Good battery life. No problems, over all a nice laptop. Good value for money. Flaws: The output sound speakers could have been better. Bit heavy to carry around.
Very disapointed – With in short time of purchase 10 screws fell out from case and by the time we realised further damage occurred as a result. Acer require laptop to be sent to Sydney for two weeks (and the rest) "to be assessed". the customer service person indicated that this was an unusual amount for this model saying i may get charged $109 for 10 small screws… Read more
(that's not postage either). Acer computers in general have a history in line in forums including the Acer community forum for screws falling out.
Screen quality was ok until wear on screen from keyboard due to flex when screws fell out.
Performance average, lower middle for specs but on par for price.
Not suitable for student unless in a hard laptop case, suitable for office only I would suggest.
dvds play well, also good dvd and video file play back, only suitable for low end gaming.
out of 10 .....2.5, not an inspiring product for Acer, and I have had my share of acer products.
