I'm no chef.....
We purchased this oven under advice from Harvey Norman's Townsville. We were going to buy a Bosch to match our outstanding Bosch dishwasher. The salesman had this particular oven at home and swore about its awesomeness. So I purchased this about December 2018, and we have not had a terrible bake session yet. Our first roast with the temperature probe was a bit of a struggle, the manual didn't seem overly clear (to me) on what to do. Once we worked it out, it made sense and it was the best roast chicken we've ever made. I've since learned ...that previous to this oven, we had been overcooking our dinners for the better part of 20 years! In our old oven, all cakes used to be lopsided and leaning to one direction. This oven does not create the same ugly cakes. The menus do take a little getting used to. The recipes that are built-in aren't very useful for Australian diners. I mean, who here eats Rabbit or Duck? Change that to Kangaroo and Crocodile, it will get more use. Also in the recipes section is a 1/2 chicken. Really? This means you need to dig out the probe and manual to find out what temp to put the end settings to. I haven't created any favorites as yet, but will in time i guess. This might alleviate my gripe with the recipes section. The oven is extremely easy to clean, was simple to install in place of our broken "Venini" oven. Only slight modifications needed to make it fit. It was slightly taller than the budget oven. Another nice thing is when you are cooking, the house doesn't heat up due to it being on! I really hated that old oven! As I said, I'm no chef. I can cook basic things, and this allows me to do that.
Purchased in at Harvey Norman for $2,999.
Problems (and good things) with our new AEG oven (model BSK774320M 60cm SteamCrisp Oven)
Problems (and good things) with our new AEG oven (model BSK774320M 60cm SteamCrisp Oven):
It should be noted: We have a LOT of criticisms about the poor design of many of the oven’s features BUT from our comparisons with other ovens from other companies it appears that most have the same design problems. So the AEG is probably no worse than other brands? We think a lot of the (poorly designed) features are added just to help sell a unit (because the feature “sounds” nice in the Showroom, but not so nice when you use it at home).

Disappointed it doesn’t have 12hr clock
we have our oven on 24hr clock display BUT I’m pretty sure I remember that Settings allows you to set 12hr AM/PM display if you prefer. I haven’t checked this as the manual is not handy (p...retty bad manual anyway). So if you have trouble search the web or phone your supplier (or AEG Australia).
We are trying to clean our oven and it keeps saying “ cleaning stopped, you added water during cleaning” which we have not done. Tried the cleaning cycle 10 times. Same result. Any help appreciated.
Hmmm as per some of my (5?) reviews on this oven we have had many small and several very annoying problems with our BSK774320, but have used the Pyro clean about 4 times with no major problems....I presume you are following the instructions on the stove's display precisely when it goes through the step of draining any residual water from the Steam cook section? (I don't think you would be able to proceed without doing this anyway?). Note - you have to do this step even if no water has been added by you previously as there can still be water in the Steam section from condensation when cooking meals etc. Sooooo sounds like something as gone wrong with your oven. I hope it is still under warranty. If not then I recommend talking to your supplier as if it IS still under warranty. Australian law covers things that should not fail even if it is a few years after end of warranty!! You don't say if the Pyro cleaning used to work, or has never worked. If never worked then definitely covered under warranty even if warranty has ended. *** One thing I would try is to leave the Steam cook water tray / slide out water fill thingy fully out when starting a Pyro clean - maybe that will "fool" the water detection system? Just FYI: we have never used the Steam cook function. during Pyro clean setup some water always comes out during the water draining step. the Pyro clean process has never stopped, complained or failed for us. (but only 4 uses so far). Good luck. Feel free to contact me again if I can try out anything on our oven or help in any other way! :)
I was about to purchase this oven until I read this review. I don't feel like your response actually addresses any of the issues that the reviewer has raised. I'm now looking at another brand. Do you have any response particularly regarding the heat on the bottom of the oven when in Pyro cleaning mode?
given that we have had the new AEG oven for over 6 months now some further thoughts that might help yo:...1. Concerning the centre of the base (underside) of the oven getting very very hot - yes, this is true (150C?). Not a problem so far for us as the wooden shelf is over 20cm below the bottom of the oven. The oven base runners (feet) sit on side boards and don't exceed 70C. I am about to install a drawer in the space under the oven but will be making it out of metal so that the 150C won't damage it or its contents! 2. Small addition on Favourites - be careful when experimenting with a lot of Favourtites - YOU CAN NOT EVER DELETE A FAVOURITE (even by turning the power off etc.). Who the hell designed this oven??? You can edit an existing Favourite and so end up with your most used Favourites at the top of a (long) list of Favourites (a pain). 3. Yes, AEG did have an hour long conversation with me about my long review (grateful for this!). They helped with 1 or 2 issues but all the rest remain as poor design problems. 4. Overall we are using the oven in a fairly basic conventional manner and just ignoring most of the fancy features as they are a pain to use. E.g. we set the griller to about 180C and put our food in immediately on the top shelf position. When the element gets red hot we let it melt cheese etc. and watch it carefully so that the food doesn't burn. We can grill simple foods (cheese on toast) in about 4-5 minutes instead of the 15-20 mins it would take if you followed the manual. Grilling meat is easier and you can follow the manual. 5. Quality-wise - the oven seems reliable and robust. Advice (but I'm no expert) - we would have bought a Miele but internally they were 2cm narrower than most other ovens. Just too narrow for us. Earlier this year Miele released a new (more modern) range of ovens. I would check these out as I have always found Miele products to be well designed. Just compare any model to my review comments to see if that model performs better! Buy anything before end June and you might get an EOF Sale discount! Good luck.
Hi there RodM, after reading yr review I’m wondering about my purchase that is yet to be delivered.
(I will print off yr observations and store as an add in to the manual.)
