Started first pull and it was quieter than expected.
I purchased the ALDI Ferrex 3300w generator on sale for $349. I think people were reluctant to buy them so they have been marked down from $399. ALDI generators have had a few bad reviews. I though I would give this new model Ferrex 3300w unit a try as most reviews were of older units.
It's a small unit, smaller than I thought it would be. It suits my needs as I won't be running it continuously. I'll use it for a back up, a portable 240v generator is big enough to run my large fridge freezer. I'll also be using it on the odd camping tri...p. I filled it full of 5w-30 oil and 91unleaded fuel then pulled the cord. It started first pull, a little rough for 10 seconds then steady. I was anticipating half a dozen pulls to get the fuel circulating before it fired up. It was a pleasant surprise. It was powerful enough to run 2 fish tanks with lighting, water and air pumps. It wasn't a very scientific test, but it did make power. My Makita lawnmower has a Briggs and Stratton e500 4 stroke ohv engine and the Ferrex was quieter than my idling mower. I would of been happy with that, but then I noticed a power saving mode switch. I pushed it and it dropped the revs 30% (guestimate). It still made enough power to run my fish tanks. It is quiet enough to run in my backyard during the day. I probably would only run it after 9am till around 3pm. It would be an annoyance to my neighbours outside those hours.

Very Satisfied, worked from 3rd pull, restarts everytime.
A well constructed compact design, I followed all the instructions and it started perfectly.
Note: I noticed a vacuum hose from the air-filter to the OHV cover not positioned in the OHV cover hole, this could be due to transport or handling as its easy to dislodge, it took no effort to reinsert.
It was surprisingly quiet and only just a few decibels more when under load with a 900 watt 127mm grinder, both on Eco and Normal. If you are certain to only use it intermittently make sure you add an additive to your Jerry can to preserve the fuel as ...

Reliable and useful
I bought the generator three years ago. With a move to Melbourne's outer east it has been getting a lot of use lately, due to regular power outages caused by trees. Recently the power was out for 2.5 days. Other than refuelling I ran the generator continually for that period. It didn't miss a beat. A tank of fuel lasts about 12 hours, so as an alternative to mains power it's expensive. But it's either that or torches and a fridge full of spoiled food. For the average power outage, 3 to 8 hours, the running cost is acceptable.
I can run ligh...ts, the PC/internet then one of kettle, washing machine, dishwasher or clothes dryer. No effect on PC/NBN. When starting a large load, e.g., kettle, there is a brief drop in voltage before the inverter tells the engine to speed up. This isn't a problem and I suspect any generator of this type would do the same. It's fairly noisy and I wouldn't like to operate it after dark in a suburban area. I'm in a semi-rural area and can run it all night without annoying the neighbours, some of whom are running their own generators. I find it starts first or second pull and, for me, is not a hard pull.

Know better, choose better.
Great machine great price to just done 306hrs had it a month still going strong like the day we purchased it. Turn on economy switch and it won't rev it's guts out use 95/98 octane fuel for good fuel economy we run ours for 9-11 hours a night and still have 1litre of fuel left in the morning running a 800 watts heater on economy mode. Thanks aldi.

I weld with this unit on farms. Has not let me down in 3 years. Outputs a beautiful sine wave that my most delicate electronics work on. I jave properly load tested this unit on a 30 degree day at its continuous output rating (hint - its not 3500w) and it performed well for a full tank of gas.
The only thing I would wish for is a 12v output but not critical. Keep it under cover as some of the chrome bits get rusty but no biggie.

Never missed a beat for 3 years now over revs
3 1/2 kilowatt version has been fantastic and never missed a beat in three years or more but now is over revving all the time from what I gather from this forum is that there's a switch which need to pull the generator apart to access reset great for safety very inconvenient for the everyday user.
I got a 2200 what version to get me through recently.
Don't waste your time with it.
I knew I should have bought two of them four years ago
(ALDI) Work Zone T I G 3600W
Purchased from new ALDI Store Dalby QLD. Firstly great service from staff at store. Set this Geni up day after purchase and have not yet had any issues with it. have no mains power only off grid solar then Geni to run Pulse charger to keep deep cycle batteries charged at night and geni runs TV & Powered extension speaker system also at night and computer with extension monitor. Not a huge load but works great . It runs from 4pm till 10pm each night . Fuel economy is good on pare with the Fuji Micro of the same KW that I have . I intend using this work zone to also run washing machine ect. Paid only $360.
Exactly what I was expecting
Bought unit today from Aldi. Was there at 8am, with about 30 other people.
The doors opened and then it was a mad rush, for various specials. But 2 pallets of generators of about 8 each, went in one minute!
Fortunately, another guy with a sack truck had managed to grab 2 generators. He turned to me and offered me one. Thanks mate.
Got some 10w 30 oil, 20L jerry can and fuel stabiliser I was on the way home. Get semi synthetic oil as I was advised by an older gentleman at Supercheap.
Got it home, it looks very well built! A $399 bar...ging! Fitted rubber feet, handle and wheels following detailed instructions. Then sat back at carefully read the operating instructions. This is a must. Filled oil and fuel, unit started after a few pulls. Check choke position! Let it warm up and then I put on a small load, 40cm fan. Then I connected a 35 year old frost free fridge and it handled that ok. Ok it grumbles for a few seconds.
