Alginox Pool Algaecide

IT NEEDS TO BE USED FOR RIGHT REASONS – Situation: 55000L pool was OK but outside was sunny and +34C and we went away for the whole day and switched off power on chlorinator pump. When we came home pool started to be green (walls and bottom). Pool shop was closed so I went to Woolies and I did not want Copper based so I have purchased Alginox. Added 0.5L (0.1L per 100000L pool size). Usually when using copper-based algae dies and settles on the floor. With this one water was not clean but pumping it through filter all day and swapping the filter cartridges done the trick.
It does kill algae but the following are my observations:
- I would recommend this product for mildly affected pools. If the pool is really fully green and algae strong I recommend copper based (just make sure you do not exceed copper levels in the pool)
- Once the pool is crystal clean and even pool shop confirmed that water is perfect in terms of balancing PH, alkalinity, salt, UV barrier, Cu, phosphates the water IS NO LONGER SAME as swimming in it feels like swimming in water into which you added dishwasher liquid.
The only way to get rid of it is to wait a long time to hope for rain too.
The product is more for prevention I think but I would only use 1/2 of amounts that bottle recommends (50ml per 100000L pool).

I found this product did an excellent job – I did a lot of on line research on this product, there were people who had great success and others who totally bombed out with terrible results. We had a lot of rain at the beginning of 2018 and we had an inordinate amount of algal growth used Alginox as directed on the bottle and it worked a treat, no massive loss of water on clean up either.

Worked extremely well – Ive Never used this type of product before. After alot of rain earlier this year - I dumped 20,000 litres to waste. I had to rebalance pool chemicals PH, Alkaline and chlorine etc - but I still got slammed by a huge algal bloom. Googled algal bloom. Everyone MOFO said clean/scrape and dump waste - Did that - DIDNT WORK! Super-chlorinate - DIDNT WORK!.
It still came back.
So I tried Alginox 10/8/2016 form my local Woolies, 24hours later its perfectly clean and NO LOSS OF CHLORINE!
Salt water pool - winter - minimal pump run time.
I hate to think of the wasted $$$ dumping perfectly good water and chemicals for no reason.
I read Johns comment and its not correct at all.
I only wish I took before and after pics.
Imagine Green now Blue.
TFFT! :)

Don't use – This algaecide contains benzalkonium chloride, which destroys the chlorine in the pool for about 3-4 weeks after adding. So although the algae is killed initially, after a week it comes back worse than before. I followed the directions, saw an improvement but after a week the pool was worse. The pool salt chlorinator could not replace the chlorine fast enough. It destroys the pool chlorine
