I've held an Amex Charge Card since 1981. Started with a Green card, when Gold arrived in the 80's I changed colour; Platinum arrived in 2001 so I 'upgraded' when they were invitation only - I love the brand, utility of the product and the customer service but seriously guys you MUST get wider acceptance and do something about 'Amex only' surcharging as it will / is destroying your product. This year was the first year I seriously considered not renewing. Next year not so sure.
Look (design) of card, 0% Interest as it is a Charge Card (pay in f...
Yeap, i have been loyal Amex customer for 20 year, have a good rating and paid on times, and they still treat you like same as others. I just been reviewed because i spent more during my recent overseas trip and they suspended my card untill they received all my current financial details and review them. Even if i clear all the outstanding balance right away, they still suspend my card (After 20 year loyalty to Amex .... LOUSY).Then if they are not happy with your current financial details, they will cancel your card and WILL not refund part of unused monthly of your yearly fee ($900 per year)!@#$%^&*
NO POINT BEING A LOYALTY TO AMEX
This card even by design speaks volumes about the card holders financial standing but I believe only to other cardholders that might see it as they understand the 'AMEX Hirachy'. Most retailers that do accept this card often comment on how 'pretty' the cards reflection is probably do not rate it as high as a gold card for example. Good that can talk to a customer service consultant and any issues or queries are dealt with very quickly. Very professional and quick service.
Preferential treatment and free travel insurance
Not recognised as a commonly used card as I believe a lot of retailers do not want to pay the higher transaction fee.
Overall the platium card has pretty good deal but only when you willing to pay for higher annual card fee. But I will still recommend people to use it as their customer service are professional and absolutely helpful.
Lower annual fee if you're a professional and it also comes with bonus point (40,000 point) and domestic/international compulmentary flight included.
AMEX provides great customer service and being very helpful with any issues you have. Their resolution team responds faily quickly and always try their best to satisfy your request.
Slow process time for bonus reward point and sometimes you'll need to follow up personally to get the correct reward point balance.
Overall I think American Express offer a great service and have a very good acceptance rate when compared to some other cards.
Being a platinum card credit card it came with a number of additional features like a American Express personal asistant to help purchase unsual things or to help when you find yourself stuck. The rewards program offers is terrific in a dollar per point and points per reward. They also send a travellers magazine which is informative and tempting.
Interest Rate if you don't pay the full balance.
The merchant fees for American Express are higher then some other cards.
A good secondary card for use when you can.
You still need a Visa/Mastercard as well if you have an Amex.
If you are a professional (Accountant, Engineer, Medical etc...) the annual fee is reduced to $295/yr, which does cover the Qantas domestic flight. ($395/yr if not)
1.5 points/dollar is the best value credit card rewards scheme available.
The scheme is basically worth 1.5% of your purchases.
Customer service for this card is very good. The platinum call centre staff are well educated and trained. They will basically explain and fix...anything for you. The hotel/flight booking is also very easy and fully taken care of through Amex travel agents. The travel insurance cover is extensive. The upto $2.5mil medical emergency cover is a real benefit. There is also purchachase protection if goods purchased are stolen/damaged within 3 months. Only some merchants accept it. Just use it only when there is no surcharge.

1.5 reward points per $, not 1 reward per $1.50 (ANZ Visa)
I had one restaurant tell me for months (after the first month I thought they were liars, so I kept asking, just to see what they said) that they were setting up their Amex facility.
What I would really like, is if the card also had one year electrical appliance insurance (like DJ's used to).
Excellent rewards, about twice as 'rewarding' as the old ANZ Visa that I used to use. Free return flight (j...
Very happy overall with the card. The service especially is excellent as we have a special number to call. The overall value is great when you do your maths to compare the fee verses the rewards.
We get a free domestic flight each year. As we family in Adelaide we use it to fly from Sydney. This makes a reasonable dent in the $395 per year fee. We also get one and a half points per dollar. This is much better than any of the others. When they specials on we also get bonus points (between twenty five and fifty percent extra) to transfer to...
Overall view is that the team at platinum is disorganised and does not make any effort to follow through their customer inquiries. Their fees do not justify the features that customers get
use some great marketing to promote false promises(hahaha)
Bad experience with the platinum team…they do not offer 24 hour service as they advertise because when I phoned after business hours, they told me to call back during business hours.
They also had trouble coordinating the booking event tickets and travel. No one ever called me to let me know they didn’t book my tickets. The welcome pack didn’t turn up either and I had to request it and the same with the magazine(it never turned up)
Think this is a great card if you use it wisley. Offers good perks but only good if you utilise them. American Express great for customer service.
Get free domestic trip per year, travel insurance and other perks. Competative interest rate, great customer service, great points system
A lot of retailers do not take amex and annual fee high
It is great I wish that they offered a cheaper annual fee because that really lets this card down. The rewards program is very good they give you about an extra half point per dollar than other cards.
It comes with a free flight Australia wide and it is very upperclass, the limit is very high which means that you will be able to spend up big.
The annual fee is about tripple of it's competitors prices which makes is hard to justify spending $300 + a year for the right to spend money that you are going to pay fees on.
A prestige card with quality offerings, if you use it properly, can be quite good value. The free round trip Qantas flight is especiailly attractive, and the added benefit of being able to talk to Australian based American Express consultants is a major plus! (Regular cards get their calls shipped over to India!)
It comes with a free rountrup airfare within Australia each year, including all taxes and surcharges, a free subscription to a Travel magazine, free travel insurance, and a healthy rewards programme
The annual cost of $395 is marginally hefty!
good card to have, especially for travelling, but not well accepted in australia.
we get an extra card with no chage, and a free return flight every year which will be great, there are no hidden charges if paid by the due date each month.easy to monitor charges on line, as charges appear straight away, and online statements available
great card, gives 1.5 points for every dollar spent, and lots of interest free days.well accepted overseas.customer support is excellent with all american express cards, and it is easy to redeem or transfer points on line.
not accepted everywhere.
