Ancestry.com.au deletes information you've previously saved
australian ancestry site keeps deleting the information that I've already done. It disapears overnight. I've had to print family tree jsut to reenter the information when it the website deletes whole branches of the tree.
So slow....can't handle the traffic of so many users
I understand why Ancestory.com.au database is not coping well with the traffic of so many staying at home due to Coronavirus and spending lots of time on their website updating family history....however what my beef is, they are doing a mothers day special trying to get more users.....they can't cope with what they have now, it times out, hangs, and today the edit field doesn't open up. No more users please until you get improved IT.
Got overcharged $100
I’m giving ancestry 3 stars because I’ve wanted to find out my lineage for around 15 years and with ancestry I was able to do just that.
When I got the DNA results back a pop up came up asking if I’d like to try a free trial, and it would be $12.99 per month thereafter. I knew absolutely nothing about my family tree, so I signed up and didn’t mind paying that much per month as I was really enjoying using the website.
Fast forward to today, instead of $12.99 they had charged me $99.99! When I went into my account I saw that price was only va...lid for a month too! Had to call the company 4 different times as all the voices on the other end were extremely muffled (if you’re hard of hearing, you stand no chance being able to understand them). Eventually got told that in order for it to be $12.99 per month, I would have to have cancelled my trial before the trial period, then re-sign back up on the $12.99 subscription, otherwise I would be changed $99 per month.
Find out how Ancestry.com compares to other Services
Know better, choose better.
The information gathered from Ancestry.com is invaluable but their policies on renewal need to be more transparent. BE WARNED - RENEWAL IS AUTOMATIC. While the small print in the T&Cs say it will be automatically renewed, I did not receive any notification that they were about to renew it nor did I receive any confirmation that they had renewed it. My only notification was the bill appearing on my bank statement. I was able to cancel but it cost me one month subscription.
Foreign Exchange fees on Ancestry.com.au subscription - buyer beware!
I recently rejoined Ancestry.com.au << note the AU... AUSTRALIA... I paid in Australian $'s via my MasterCard for my years subscription. I was then hit a foreign exchange fee by my bank. It was AU$7.49 & then I found another AU$1.49 for a months subscription a couple of months previously. Only small amounts but that is not the point. I contacted Ancestry.com.au who replied:
" We are sorry for any extra charges assessed by your financial institution. We regret the frustration this has caused. Please allow us to explain. We bill our Australian m...
Overcharging and automatic renewal - no option
I was given a membership last year for Christmas. Gathered quite a lot of information but was shocked when my husbands credit card was debited $449.99 for a renewal. No reminder and 50% dearer than the previous year. I sent a number of emails and so forth in rapid succession and have been promised a full refund when I cancelled my subscription. READ THE FINE PRINT automatic renewal happens no options to agree or not and no reminders. According to their websites my subscription should have been $339 98 ! No explanation No apology and I am now...in a queue to speak with the help desk for an explanation. So apparently my reminder must have gone into junk mail and I was being charged the full price renewal even though there is a special offer currently running. What a way to treat current (well not now) clients. Be aware.............!!!

I am trying to find my results
Sorry but all i can say is good luck!! Unfortunately my experience with Ancestry.com tells me they are not reliable and are hit and miss with their results. Try another DNA provider
Not good. My cousin has done accurate research about our family’s heritage. I got my DNA estimate with my heritage and it was quite inaccurate in comparison to the research. Not recommended.
