Arlec PB89HA Grid Connect Smart 5 Outlet Powerboard
Reviewer Photos & Videos
Smart powerboard spontaneously powers off.
Purchased for its stated ability to run daily routines, as I wanted to automagically turn stuff off at night and on during the day. I was happy to use the gridconnect app which takes some understanding but does work as advertised. It does do all of that, but will at irregular and unpredictable intervals, just turn all the sockets off, making it useless to me. I've reluctantly gone back to an analog timer switch and dumb powerboard.

Great product… initially
Amazing Powerboard at first. Works well with Google and fairly easy to setup. Bought two from Bunnings. First one died, thought it was an overload but second one died a few weeks later. Only master would. Seems to be a recurring issue. Would not recommend

We bought 3, one with power pass through always on, and 2 with USB. All of them failed outside of their warranty.
all 3 of them stopped working after 18 months to 2 years outside the 1 year warranty. Bunnings no longer sell them.
Worst power board ever bought, considering I have conventional power boards 20 years old that still work.

Stopped working
After been used for few months all the outlets except the always on stopped working. Wifi power on switch is blinking like there is an internal short circuit. Such a waste of money. Not recommended to buy.

Worked well initially
Great idea and initially appeared to be a good product but after 6 months 3 out of the 4 powerboards I bought have gone offline. I can repair them (as in factory reset & reconnect) and get them working for a few days but they go offline again. One of them has worked flawlessly for over a year so not all bad.

A Clever (Though Overpriced) Smart Powerboard
This is a clever powerboard, but I think Arlec have forgotten that in the grand scheme of things, it is only a powerboard when they set the pricing - $43 is a bit much to pay.
That being said, it is a VERY smart powerboard - 5 outlets, 4 of which are smart and one of which is always on. The Grid Connect app controls the 4 smart switches independently, or you can turn all 4 on / off at the same time. Each of the outlets can be set with a timer, or a schedule, and if you have other Grid Connect products, you can link them all together.
The app ...

Good when it works. But does not last long
I have bought one in january 2020 from bunnings. Worked well and served the purpose.. But mid april 2020 it just completely died. No lights, no power. I dont get why it did not last long. It is only powering my wifi repeater which is probably less than 20watts at max?
My lost, i dont have the receipt anymore so i cant go for warranty.
I might just have bought a lemon but hey il put it in review to see if others have the same experience.

Arlec reinvented itself through Grid Connect integration with powerboard, plugs and controls
Thanks to Medion Life+ which in recent months has the "wrong user token" issue and frequent drop outs from Google Home connection for me, I am in the market shopping for smart plugs again and noticed this Arlec 4 Outlets Smart Powerboard that is Grid Connect enables. Grid Connect is relatively new, teaming up with Delta, Arlec amongst other manufacturers and it has really good user reviews and ratings. Thumbs up from me.
It is really refreshing to see what Arlec is doing in recent time - investing into smart product. In the olden days, there u...
Read moresed to be smart plug that required YD Home and wasn't Google Home or Amazon Alexa enabled. Another product, the two-poles remote controlled plug still has its place in my opinion - for applications where you absolutely do not want to mistakenly turn on by malicious attack or in error and it cuts both wires which is awesome. I wonder why this design isn't in all plugs. Arlec makes two Grid Connect enabled smart powerboard, both with 4 smart outlets. One has USB & USB-C ports while the other has an always on outlet thus a total of 5 AC outlets. The latter is what I bought. I really like the idea of having an always on outlet. If you want to daisy chain the boards, you can with this powerboard. What is the chance that every single outlet need to be smart? I have several setups where a smart plug drives a powerboard hence a group of lights may be activated / deactivated together by a single command. What use case do you have where you need four smart devices running from the same board? Kitchen appliance? Kettle? toaster? Coffee machine? I don't even dare using smart plug on kettle given in most cases it would be at peak power handling (10A) limit and I don't know if the kettle can cope with not having water inside. Would that cause fire or burn out the heating filament inside? Smart plugs are most often used with lights and you want them to turn on together. Individual control is perhaps a nice to have but not essential. With this 5 outlets smart powerboard, I use it to drive three lights and noticed the name that can be given to each outlet has a horrible limit of 10 chars max. At least the powerboard's name can be up to 24 chars long. Therefore, I use the powerboard name as a group name to power on all four outlets and I had to change their names in Google Home and Alexa to give more meaningful names. In the process, realising Google Home device name has 24 chars limit while Alexa doesn't have this limitation. Whilst 24 chars is enough in most cases, Alexa wins this round. And it is terrible to have to change the name in Google Home and Alexa, because if I ever repurpose an outlet, it will have to be renamed three times. This also means Google Home and Alexa know these outlets by two if not three names, different name to different ecosystem, and more things to remember.Purchased in at Bunnings Warehouse for $39.95.
