Asus RT-AX92U WiFi v6 Mesh system review
To improve quality and speed of our wifi in rather large house we were considering different options. Most of our devices are WiFi and smooth in-house roaming (ability to move from access point to access point transparently) was crucial. We started our research with one of the highest rated reputable brands mesh systems that we trialed for a week. It worked well, but due to house shape and considerate amount of metal objects we were required more "mesh satellites" to improve reception. Then we learnt that highest rated mesh systems still using ...previous WiFi standard commonly named as WiFi5. Coincidentally, on the weekend of us concluding our networking options Harvey Norman run 20% off promotion on networking appliances which brought wifi 6 Asus 2 pack wifi6 system down to price of other reputable brand running older wifi5 which required more satellites to achieve what we wanted. That, and promise of much better performance made our decision to go with Asus RT-AX92U WiFi v6 Mesh system. Out of the box installation was straight forward, however I'd suggest configuring system via desktop rather than Asus app. App is great for system monitoring, but makes set up not as trivial. Upon system installation it prompted for firmware update. The update took around another 5 minutes and system was up and running in 15 or less minutes. There a lot to digest for those who not familiar with Asus top end routers in terms of utilising its potential, but if you are after simple, yet secure set up everything is quick and straight forward. After using system for 2 weeks I can't comment on insane network speeds promised on glossy brochures, but everything we throw at it done without any hiccup. In total we have little more than 30 connected devices. The reception is great all thru the house So far the whole system functions as expected including VPN, port forwarding, DDNS, built in security and more. If anything will change I'll update my review.
