Great car but pricey to maintain
We bought our 2014 4.2 TDI V8 as a low Klm Demo from Audi Sydney, where both the pre and post sales service was excellent. 5 years and 142,000 Klms later (and with a little sadness) we said goodbye to the vehicle a few weeks ago (as a trade on a new Q5).
Firstly the Good:
The engine & gearbox are superb - in normal traffic just lopes along and is never stressed, hardly breaking a sweat. When you need it you really appreciate the 250 Kw and 800 Nm torque - great for overtaking and towed our 3 ton van much (and I mean much) better than the 200 ...series LandCruiser we had before it. We averaged 10.5 L/100 mixed and around 8L/100 from Sydney to Coffs on regular trips great for the size / performance. The car was tight from day 1 to day 1832, not a squeak or rattle or unusual noise anywhere. It handled like a car - ours had air suspension and in dynamic mode it hunkered down and really gripped the road - OK not like a sports car but better than my SSV Commodore - and stopped on a dime.
Purchased at Audi Dealers for $129,000.00.
Nice car, but fuel consumption is not as marketed
Nice car, better feeling than BMW 2015 X5, but the fuel consumption is bit higher than website says. Interior feels good, better than my old Benz G class. What I don’t like is the option package are bit pricy, should be more affordable for real Audi drivers. Also the standard Audio system/speakers are not as good as my old TT 2006. Could be bigger internal space.
Great Family Car
The driving experience is great. The dashboard is a little cramped though, especially the glove box, it is a struggle to open it sometimes given the amount of space available after accounting for the legs. It would have been nice to have a compartment for my sunglasses. The car is overall reliable and gets good mileage.
Find out how Audi Q7 compares to other Large / 7 Seater SUVs
Know better, choose better.
Not perfect as expected but starting to love it.
Got the Audi Q7 MY17 for 1 year from Audi Indooroopilly. I admit during the first 6 month ownership it had 5 times broke down due to the "Start Stop System Error" followed by "Drive System Error" and the car was put into Limp mode and I have to drive that slowly to the dealership.
I have done a lot of research and seems this problem is very common for the new Q7 and according to the dealership, the problem is caused by DPF.
Honestly for the first 6 month the experience can be described as "terrible" and the car broke down on the 23rd of ...December which is on the night just before Christmas. however the the service from dealership is "exceptional" and they always keep me in the loop how Audi Australia going to solve this problem. I have had 5 broken down during the first 6 month of ownership or during the first 10k. However the car seemed self healed/corrected there after. currently my odometer is 17500 km and from 10k to now there was ZERO problem in relation to the DPF. I am still waiting for Audi Australia's response of "official fix" because I don't want that problem to re occur when my warranty runs out.
hi, this is very comfortable car During long journeys, Audi Q7 provides exceptional comfort to its occupants, so that they do not complain about the discomfort felt during such trips. The Q7 is a bit of a surprise. Its one of Audi's higher range models or at least it cannot be grouped with their lower end models. The performance of the car is undoubtedly good, especially the 4.2 liter model. But then again how often do we people get to see cars with capacities more than 3 or 4 liters. The style is international.
AUDI Q7 4.2 TDI
I bought a Q7 4.2 TDI in early 2008 and have gone through 5 sets of tyres, 3 sets of discs and brakes, and had numerous electronic issues. Servicing is very expensive not to mention the cost of discs and brakes from Audi service. Use Cooper Tires instead of others as they last ages. I learned this after my third set in less than 70000km. Ive done almost 115000km now and do love its engine and guts and will keep it as long as I can, but have found a better dealership to get it serviced at.
Engine!!! Comfort, sound-proofness, internal size better than Landcruiser.
$$ to service and maintain
