I'm sorry I can't leave a minus star for VPN
I couldn't find a specific section for VPN so I'm using the anti virus page.
If you live in Australia don't purchase AVG VPN. You can't send emails out in Outlook as the and AVG has known about this for a few years. I used Melbourne as my locality as it is the only one for Australia. When I informed AVG regarding the problem, I was told to try using Miami or some other place. The problem is that when you do a google search, it shows everything over in the US. I live in Australia so I'm not interested in the US. Set your locality to New Zeala...nd and the google search shows places in NZ. I've been hit with a lot of spam when I use Melbourne. I can't get a refund so I told them to keep the money. I have been using AVG paid versions of their products for a number of years now but no longer. Here is the last email I sent to AVG. I have been reading the reviews out there and I can see that I wasted my money as well. AVG used to be a good company and now it looks like you have trouble getting into the top ten for virus, VPN and other of your products. You can keep the money I paid for your products as this gives me the right to leave bad reviews about the products you sell. In other words, instead of me being paid for reviews I leave, I have paid you.
Malware! AVG has become invasive and innapprpriate.
AVG Antivirus Free (v18.6) has in my view crossed a line and now behaves as both Malware and Spyware:
My install recently updated itself (I usually set this not to occur but plausibly I overlooked it). I am certain however that I had email protection and 'surf-shield' turned off (I won't bore you with the legitimate reasons why).
Imagine my surprise then when AVG added an uninvited signature to an outgoing email sent using Yahoo's WEB INTERFACE. (*Details below but this was generated because I have AVG installed on my desktop machine)
AVG - Basically 'Pesterware'
Hello, i have used this product for around 5 years and in the past it has been un-obtrusive and low maintenance which was exactly what i liked and needed in an antivirus product
2017 and 2018 AVG has cut out most of the protection and is now selling cleanup tools, and other security tools as optional extras which it will market to you VERY aggressively through popups and other tools that will force you into subscriptions and additional subscription costs which there is no way to unsubscribe from through their webpage. Most of th...ese will come in the form of 'your computer has x problem' you will be presented with an innocuous 'fix the problem' button which will then lead you into a 'free trial' which if you don't read the fine-print and accept, will then lead you into a $90 or so reoccurring subscription that it it almost impossible to get out of as there is NO WAY OF UNSUBSCRIBING on the companies official website. The only way of stopping this company from taking money out of your account is to contact your bank and cancel subscription that way or deal with one of the companies incredibly aggressive and pushy technical department staff who will try their best to sell you more rather than aiding in cancelling subscription service. Honest review - Although a reasonable virus checker the overly pushy marketing turns this product into the very program we used to use virus checkers to keep off our computers. Should be avoided for more unobtrusive products that know how to do the job you paid for them to do.
Quite happy, thanks!
I've been a paid subscriber to AVG for about 4 years and have only had good experience. The product is easy to use and does a good job (so far...fingers crossed!). I have added the VPN service recently in addition to the PC cleanup utility. I just pay annually, on receipt of the renewal notice. Not sure why anyone would complain about being auto-charged! When I bought the VPN service I mistakenly quoted a wrong email address, and when I corrected it I got billed a second time. But a phone call sorted that quickly and my refund appeared on my cr...edit card statement within a few days. The only issue I've had is with the PC cleanup tool which seems to erase any stored passwords or login credentials to things like Skype, which is a bit annoying, but maybe there's a good reason for that. I'm happy overall!

Switches itself off
It is switched off all the time. I was in trial period and I had to keep checking the app on my phone and switching it back on. I also got severely hacked while using it. Including my gmail account of 9 years. Completely blocked. iPhone and Mac. I contacted avg many times. I have screenshots to prove. They answered that they had no sign of an account with me in new or old email. Then I just noticed they have charged me for a year subscription. Despite that I didn’t want a subscription they told me they can only refund me if I send information such as a ref no that they never gave me.
Paid Versions A.V.G. Programs.
I have been a paid a.v.g. customer for over ten years. I have found in the past support staff very helpful, any problems that occurred were fixed immediately. I have also not had a problem with my subscriptions being a direct debit from my bank account.
BUT during the last seven months or more that has all changed from bad to worse. It started with an a.v. g. program called V.P.N it arrived in my normal program as a promotion (indicating my computer is not safe or protected ) when using my anti virus. The offer changed in cost, then the downlo...

AVG anti virus paid version - Great anti virus, but some minor reservations
I use AVG anti virus because I KNOW it works. It's better than others, and in fact has done me a lot of good in finding viruses which high-end antivirus software didn't. As purely anti-virus software, it's a bit cheaper and certainly more efficient than most. It can be used by anybody at any level of online savvy with no problems at all. It's a no-fuss package, and pretty smooth for all types of operations, from scans to online security in various forms. Updates are easy, and everything runs like clockwork for just about all operations.
It ...even checks games for malware - That, you may be interested to know, is very practical. Old game software is a good hiding place for viruses, and it found one in an old game I've had for years which definitely wasn't there before. That IS good, and thorough. The ONLY reservation I have about AVG paid version is that it also insists on offering to manage computer performance. It lists outdated software, performance inefficiencies, etc. Sounds good in theory, but the last time I used one of those programs (not AVG) it crashed the computer, and I've been very wary of such performance-enhancing software ever since. That doesn't make me right about AVG's package, but it does underline the consumer paranoia perspective about being "helped" by software of unknown value when there's an obvious "don't know" when using it. Anyone with an older computer, in fact, would probably be advised to upgrade to a new OS before using the AVG performance package, which is right up to the minute. (Yes, a restore point might help, but restoring simply restores the old, inefficient system as it was.) The verdict - Great antivirus, good as any on the market, OK for non-tech people to use. Just think a bit about performance management, and get some help if you're not sure.
Automatic billing with massive increases
Originally i paid and agreed to $59 for one year. I did not notice last year that i was charged $129 then this year the increase was to $189. I never was aware of automatic billing but my issue is not that (as we know how sneaky these companies are with this) but the massive increase. Paypal have agreed with my refund as they are in the belief that this would have never been agreed to. I have not even been using the service.
Annoying scare tactic ads badgering you for more money
I've had AVG paid version for a few years now it used to be great and just run in background effortlessly and tell you when you had a virus. Now AVG constantly has pop ups (even when you're paying $80/yr) with scare tactics like "your PC is not safe!!!" download this other product from us! "Free up space - get our PC tune up program" ad after ad after ad...AVG is more of a virus on my computer than any virus it would seem. I stupidly forgot to turn off their auto renewal feature and got lumped with it again but come next time it's "bye Felicia" . Invest in another AV product.
I have had AVG anti virus and tuneup for 10 years, and last week I received an email from them for an automatic renewal debit for $49.99. I have never approved automatic renewals with them. I contacted PayPay about the transaction and now have to wait for a refund. I am a pensioner and that money was for my health insurance monthly payment which has now been declined by the bank for lack of funds. I checked my AVG page and there were no automatic debits approved by me. I am not impressed with AVG just taking money without my approval.
AVG Internet Security is the program in question
I used to love AVG. Just in the last six months, it has given my laptop terrible performance problems, maxxing the hard drive out to 100% at start up. From the time I start my laptop to the time it is useable is 10 minutes or so.
I used the Windows program uninstaller to remove it - but most of it remained. I used the AVG Remover tool, and there were STILL remnants on my laptop! Start-up performance was greatly improved once most of AVG Internet Security had been removed, though!
There w...as no option but to reinstall it, in the end. One cannot run another (better) antivirus program if there are remnants of another one there. And sure enough, my hard disk was maxed out at 100% after reinstallation.

AVG Internet Security Paid Version
Couldn't install AVG since they updated it for the 2017 Version, had nothing but trouble, it was great before they changed the whole interface and look. Had to install an old version just to get through the install on my pc.
When I do a scan with AVG it always tells me at the end that I should buy AVG Tuneup! And this is a product that my Dad purchased for my family. I have screenshots I will upload if I can.

DNS server doesn't exist caused by AVG scan
I have been a paying customer of AVG for years - had no problems until today. I decided to scan my computer and thought it odd a message said I had never scanned my computer ( I don't do it often, but I have def scanned it)...then a popup message stated something like ' an extension was recently added that causes others to see your computer ( something like that) - do you want to keep it?" So of course I clicked NO. From that time on, I had NO internet - on either of my laptops. Just a constant ' your computer is trying to connect with a DNS th...at is incorrect or doesn't exist'. With the help of my ISP tech guy, I got it all back but not after trying to find a contact number for AVG to no avail, on my mobile....and trying to follow ridiculous steps on youtube vids that claimed to fix the problem. Turns out I needed to 'forget' the existing connections and re-do them, but after 4 hours of angst, I am really annoyed with AVG.
Good free antivirus
Had an AVG Ultimate for 1 year , it was alright, although i didn't need half of extras there, only antivirus (which is available in free version anyway) and internet security (not sure if it did anything at all). After the subscription expired wanted to leave just the free antivirus but because of constant spam from AVG and automatic installation if their extras , switched to another free antivirus which works invisible. Very happy I have uninstalled AVG :)
This review is for the AVG Ultimate (antivirus, internet security & firewall for multiple devices 2016/2017 edition).
BAD BAD BAD!
Online purchasing system went rogue. First two attempts didn't went through (no confirmation page & no download link) and took me back to front page of order to start over. Live chat to customer service & was told to use different web browser to buy. He could have checked records to see if previous purchase went through & sort it out instead of immediately asking me to buy again. 3rd attempt was successful but...got billed 3 times for the same charge when the first two attempts failed. Contacted AVG for refund & they issued ONE refund only. Completely ignored my refund request for the 2nd amount. Product does not work on my Windows 10 computer. Keep getting RED indications in the AVG window saying all components are not active. I've used their 2015/2016 product before & whenever this happens, there will be a Fix button where I can click to run it & it will auto update & everything turns into green indicating all components are active & working properly. But not this time. Even installing the Firewall failed continuously. So tried 3 times live tech support & spend on average 2 hours each to fix these ridiculous problems. By the 3rd time, the senior tech is still unable to fix it. Since it is a broken product & can't be fixed I asked AVG to cancel everything & issue all refunds to me asap but again nothing happens. Have to make a long telephone call to the supervisor and post the same frustrating incident on their forum to get them to act.
AVG a Waste of Money
I have had AVG Internet Security for a few years. 2 weeks ago I made the mistake of opening an email attachment which contained the Zepto virus. I contacted AVG technical support who talked me in to paying $169 for a 2 week support service and an AVG technician to repair the damage caused by the virus. They estimated 2 - 3 hours and told me the only other option was to send my computer away and repairs were likely to take 5 - 6 days. They tried to talk me into purchasing their premium 12 month unlimited support plan for $270 but I declined. On ...the day I allowed AVG access to my computer at around 1.00pm, They contacted me several times throughout the day to reconnect to the internet and I dealt with 4 technicians. The phone lines they use are poor quality and most of the technicians that I dealt with had a poor understanding of English. I had a call from a technician at around 11.30pm asking me to reconnect to the internet. I told the guy that I needed to go to bed and he organised to call me at 9.00am. I checked my computer the following morning and nothing had been resolved. The technician had removed my AVG Security. I tried to reinstall it but kept getting a error message. No call-back from the technician so contacted the support centre again at 10.00am. Explained about the Zepto virus infection. They took control of my computer and told me the reason I had a virus was because I had no anti- virus program installed. I said that is because your technician un-installed it. The guy(he spoke better English) tried to reinstall it for the next hour without any success. He rang me and said my operating system (Windows XP) was no longer supported and sorry there is nothing that anyone can do. Notification of XP no longer being supported would have been good prior to purchasing their products. I have lost everything except photos. All of the support centre contacts were more interested in selling the $200 1 year support plan than anything else. They were very insistent that I accept the 12 month plan and it was obvious that they were not happy when I declined. Time to look for a better product.
Waste Of Time
Waste of time and money.
Guy's save the trouble and find another Anti-Virus.
Sales reps are quick to take your money, but when it comes to refund due the program having incompatibility with other programs you already have installed on your PC/Laptop they lack a lot of support.
Both the PC tune-up and the antivirus are very heavy on the process side of the PC/Laptop which you will noticed performance loss. Honestly Save your money and find another application that does work correctly without the trouble of the antivirus having conflict issues with other programs.
Years ago I would have recommended this program to anyone, but now I wouldn't look at it let alone buy it.
