First time renting an avis after years of using hertz and end up buying a windscreen because of a small stone chip. Going back to HERTZ where Ive never experienced anything like this.
Call Center incompetence and Maroochydore airport hours of operation
In an attempt to hire a car online for pick and drop off at Maroochydore Airport outside of 11am-3pm Mon-Fri is next to impossible. I am mindful of limited flights into Maroochydore but one would think that on the days there are scheduled flights that would be taken into consideration - very short sighted business sense. However, that is a side issue to attempted contact with the AVIS office at the airport. My every call went straight to the offshore call center. This resulted in a rental booking and assurances that I would receive written conf...irmation, which three days after the booking, did not arrive. I followed up with a call seeking confirmation of booking. Again assurances were made that I had a booking and would be advised in writing. This did not eventuate and subsequently the booking was deleted, I assume by the last person I spoke to in the call center. Lucky for those who need a rental at Maroochydore Airport as there are companies that can accommodate. One star rating is too high for the service received.
Dishonest service from Avis North Parramatta
Very dishonest practice by Avis at North Parramatta. Do not trust this company!
Charged an extra day and took the money out of my account without permission and without any notification a week after car returned on my rental supplied by NRMA, first they said I returned the car the day after I had returned it and then when I proved that this was not true , then changed to it was returned over 2 hours later than the time I had collected which is also untrue and I’ve been able to prove this also, extremely shady and dishonest company, go somewhere else, do not trust this company! Wish I would have read their reviews before I accepted a rental from them as dishonest charges seem to be a pattern for this company! Extremely dishonest!
Alice Springs service
The poorest customer service and communication I have ever experienced. I will never be using Avis again and the Alice Springs branch is shocking. No help with a punctured tyre (which was like that on pick-up), a simple invoice took 6 weeks to obtain, the branch never answering their phone, counter not attended, road side assistance driving off (with no assistance), extremely poor management of the whole situation. Terrible.
Extraordinarily rude and arrogant
If there was an option for ZERO stars this company would qualify! My daughter went to hire a car at short notice from Avis in Toowoomba last Sunday 6th September and was confronted by a rude, short tempered lady that is an affront to any customer service operation. It was a Sunday so maybe she didn't want to be there but she almost reduced my daughter to tears with her aggressive approach after she was advised that the charges were going to be much higher than those calculated on the Avis website. She calls "dad" when she realises that she n...ow has insufficient funds to cover the costs but even when I transferred the funds by Osko and it was confirmed that sufficient funds were now available, the rental was declined in a rude and aggressive manner. I was still connected to my daughter by mobile phone whilst all this was going on and, although the appearance of my son-in-law, with his green mohican haircut, may be different, surely this should not generate this sort of abuse. I told my daughter to "forget it and go to Europcar" just a short distance away and they were able to hire a car from them, stress free. This experience has cemented the view of three people, my daughter, my son-in-law and me, to never hire a car from this company. The contrast at Europcar could not have been more stark.
Don't do it!
I have been provided with an Avis car due to an insurance claim. I hope I never have to deal with this hopeless company again. I was told I could drop the car back at the airport but the key box was inside the building and not accessible (Covid-19). So, I was unable to return the car. Local support out here in Alice Springs is not unavailable and the service team over the phone disconnected my call several times as they simply didn't have a solution for my situation. Whatever you do - stay away from Avis.
Ripped off by the Artarmon location
Booked and paid the car in full online before picking up. Decided to purchase an insurance for extra cover which was supposed to be 35*3=105. Returned the car earlier than scheduled time with full fuel tank filled 300 meters away from Artarmon location. So the only charge I should have it the extra 105 insurance I purchased. However, they charged me $157 instead and explained the reasons of:
1. premium location- I picked up and return to the same location with no delay
2. fuel service- filled right before return 300m away from their store.
Wow! They really are this bad!
I expect car hire companies to be generally lacking in ethics, but as I have read in the latest few reviews, it seems that they continue to chase you for money for repairs for dubious damage months and months after the hire took place. It is as though they are situated in hell and chase you through eternity because you signed a contract with them and that the contract is not for car hire, but in fact for your soul. It is a good warning that when you sign a contract with the devil, expect consequences.
Worst self insurer to deal with
I had a car accident with one of their cars in Feb this year. I wasn't at fault and have been trying to chase them to settle my claim but always told their hirer hasn't paid the excess fee yet so I had to recover my loss directly with the hirer. I happen to lost the details of the hirer from my mobile phone and they're not even trying to help at all. The claim administrator company, Van Ameyde, is the worst to communicate with. I had to repeat what I'm asking them multiple times in email for them to reply with what I think is template of answers, their focus is basically to reject, delay, and minimise the claim at other people's expense. Now it's at the end of July and my claim hasn't been settled yet. Worst one ever.
Do NOT hire from AVIS at Lake Como
We did not get the class of car that we contracted to hire. Repeated requests for a refund have been refused and we have been advised:
As per the website and the internal data, the received vehicle does match the requested group, therefore from that point of view the charge and the received vehicle are both correct. Please extend our apologies to the customer, but since there were no mechanical issues with the vehicle we are unable to offer compensation at this time.
Kindly note, this is our final decision and this decision will not be overtu...rned. The car we received did NOT match the requested group in terms of engine size or equipment fit. And this was clearly explained to Avis. This is not the first issue we've had with Avis in Italy, and as it's evident that Avis will not properly address a legitimate customer complaint, we will never hire from Avis Italy again.
Holiday memories ruined by AVIS
AVIS insisted on having a minor scratch on the bumper of our hire car after we returned it, as per their policy to swindle as much money out of customers as possible. I had full insurance and paid the repair cost. My insurance company then informs me that the AVIS invoice is incorrect, >$100 extra added to the $600 bill - an 'accounting error'.
The insurance company will not cover the repair cost until I receive the refund from AVIS for this overpayment and a new invoice is issued.

Beware of unauthorized additional charges
I am an Avis preferred member but will never use them again after two very negative experiences with Avis (Barcelona airport Aug 2018 and Melbourne Airport Jan 2020). In both cases additional costs were added after I returned the vehicles. In Spain there was over 200 euros of unexplained additional charges. It took 2 months to get the money back. In Melbourne I was charged for fuel after I returned the car full - and this was confirmed when I signed the car back in! Avis did refund the money but I am still to receive an explanation as to how t...his happened. It seems to me that Avis has an systemic issue with adding additional charges (there are many other similar reviews here). Perhaps staff are incentivised to do it? I can't imagine why they would be so careless in ruining their brand as they are here....
Late to open, charged fees I was not informed of, extremely unprofessional
Still have not received bond or the holding payment that I was never informed about, pathetic company and extremely unprofessional. Did not awnser calls or be at the office during work hours, by far the worst car rental company in Australia.
This is directed at the Avis phone booking service, Unfortunately there isn’t a negative star because that’s what I’d give. Bit of advice, instead of waiting for your customers to spend $50 in a taxi to tell them you require 2 forms of id with an address on before they can pick up a car (local hire). This policy has been in place since 2019, strange I didn’t require it 4 weeks ago. How about Avis employ locally to handle bookings instead of a call centre in the Philippines so these policies can be correctly communicated and save the front line staff from potentially volatile situations
Charged more than $70 what was quoted without any explanation
Horrible customer service. I called the customer service phone number 24hrs after i dropped off the car and noticed I was charged a significantly high amount than was quoted on the booking confirmation.
I was told they could not help me until 48hrs after dropping the car off and that I would receive a call back from them. I did not receive any call back. I waited more than a week for a call back.

This booking was cancelled due to Covid 19 and no flights available to the UK to take up the car hire . A months notice was given.I have enquired 5 times regards refund and no response other than speak to your travel agent. No agent was involved - booked on Avis website and paid immediately via credit card.
Appreciate a tough time for all business around the world . I appreciate the due refund asap . Every other hotel/airline that was involved in this trip has responded positively and had done the right thing within a reasonable amount of time .
Please Avis do the same .
Anyone been in an accident with an Avis hire car when the hire car crashed into my car and did substantial damage to te rear end but unfortunately I am not insured so I am trying to get Avis to pay for my car as the accident was not my fault ( rear ended)
Avis claim I must chase up the driver and until he pays his excess I will not have my car repaired. Yes the man driving the car is no longer answering calls or emails...

this becomes police matter, i hope you reported acident to police, they can find the driver, most probably issue his ticket, get police report number for insurance claim. if nothing works, report to consumer affairs, if nothing work, you may have to take AVIS to QCAT, only take $60-70 but bit of pain.

Yes the service can be nest described as bad.
Car delivered scratched (every panel including the roof!) and filtheir than a worn out cab
Was asked at Melbourne Airport to put in 2 dollars ($1.30/l) more fuel as there was an discussion of the defnition of a full tank?
It isnt AVIS fault it is the 'crew' that handles the cars for all renters.
