Loaves keep getting smaller but cost more!
This company has lost touch with reality. The owner of the Franchise pocketed 200 million dollars last year while the individually owned stores raised prices and continued in reducing product sizes. I was a long time loyal BD customer but after purchasing my regular 4 loaves of High fibre low GI and seeing the sizes of the loaves once home l decided to shop elsewhere. The slices were that small a cheese slice hung over the edge. This is disgusting. At $5 a loaf it’s daylight robbery. When l became a customer of BD 10 years ago their big hearty ...loaves were the only reason l purchased their bread at highly inflated prices. 10 years later the prices continue to rise while the loaves are now half the size they were. Woolworths bakery has a bigger loaf for $2 that tastes just as good. Bread is always fresh but across Ballarat region all stores have reduced the size of the loaves. I’m guessing like everything else in their range it’s only a matter of time until they introduce “mini loaves”. They love their “ mini” range as they extract more coin while handing over less product. If the company doesn’t change this policy they won’t be around for too much longer. BD, 4 loaves= $17.60. Woolworths bakery 4 loaves = $8. Bigger loaves at less than half the price. Time to teach these thieves a lesson and shop elsewhere!
Stale, Rock Hard Baguettes from Highett Shop
On two occasions recently, I purchased half baguettes and a full bread stick from the Bakers Delight within Highett Shopping Centre. I commented at the time that they seemed rather hard but was told 'Well they were baked this morning'. One was inedible as it needed a saw to cut it and the bread stick was useable as a police baton the following day, being solid and stale. I certainly will avoid this shop in the future. Foolishly I didn't bother to take the receipt to enable the return of the products.
I wish Bakers Delight could get the fruit loaf consistency, which a lot of stores only bake a few times a week.
I bought from Bulleen Plaza shop on Sunday 23rd September, got say a 10 out of 10, good consistency, abundance of fruit & lasted 4 days until it was all gone.
I'll definitely be back as the saying goes.
Returned on Sunday 31st September expecting the same as the previous week.
Well what a disappointment, dry texture with less fruit tasting like it was about 4 days old.
A rating 2 out of 10.
Definitely not the same flour used in this loaf.
From a Franchise we expect better and consistency.
As the week lingers on the fruit loaf is drier & drier with lack lustre flavour.
Love the bread but awful hygiene practice and bad customer service
First up I really like the product but the management of this chain really leaves a lot to be desired. They have recently reconfigured the stores so that the racks of bread are now very close to one of the registers. When slicing and serving the assistant is very close to the bread and as she stepped back her hair touched the loaves continually. When this configuration was first implemented at Arana Hills store I contacted head office and spoke with Peter. I expected concern but was frankly told this is how all the stores are now and they are n...ot going to change it and if I am not happy don’t buy the bread. Again when I saw the bread constantly being brushed by the assistants hair I again spoke to what appeared to be a manager or baker in store but received an “oh well not at all concerned” response. Also no masks and no gloves ... breathing on the bread. Next step the health department?
went to buy bread today and only had $100 note...told they dont accept $100 bills...went outside to get a smaller denomination from my flatmate and overheard the two young girl talking about the silly old bag that should know better...last time i shop at bakers delight at aberfoyle park SA...shopping centre 500 mts up the road has a bakery and we will be shopping there......also very loud music playing in the shop
Bought fruit block loaf yesterday hanging out for fruit toast , really really disappointed there was 1 sultana in each slice and not another price of fruit to be seen , so disappointed
Ignorant and rude woman at Donvale
Every interaction with one of the women working at Donvale is very off putting.. my only option is Donvale as the Doncaster East branch was closed.. I dread coming into contact with her as she is so aggressive .. she is not always rostered there but I never have a good experience .. might have to go somewhere other than bakers delight .. sad .. as I love the products ..
Hot cross buns are expensive and awful
So disappointed with your hot cross buns this year.. dry and tasteless. Lots of spice, no fruit. I had one and it had exactly 1 piece of fruit in the whole bun. Other 5 in the pack i will throw out.
They are expensive and horrible.
All supermarket brands are considerably cheaper and considerably nicer
Worst customer service!!
I bought a pack of bacon and cheese rolls and some dinner rolls just before closing and absentmindedly walked away and left them. The next morning I went to collect them but was told they were thrown out and too bad. On contacting head office they apologised for the terrible treatment and offered to send a voucher to my home address. 3 weeks later it hadn’t arrived and so I contacted them again to say it had been sent and check with my neighbour’s and too bad! I have a locked letterbox so that was a lie.
I will NEVER EVER shop here again, the absolute worst customer service.
Rude Franchise Manager & Poor Product Quality - Airport West
I was spoken to like absolute trash by the Franchise Manager of this store. After raising a complaint to Head Office about the Margherita Pizza being too hard and the Apple and Cinnamon Hot Cross Buns tasting dry as well as a poor customer experience, I was told they would relay this to the Franchise Manager and arrange for a refund. I was asked to return the product which I was more than happy to do. In returning back to the store later in the afternoon, the staff had no idea what the issue was and the call was escalated to the Franchise Manag...er who basically shouted at me over the phone confirming that I had already eaten some when in actual fact, a number of people I was with for morning tea took a single bite from 3 hot cross buns out of 12 which remain uneaten. She already was of the opinion her products were perfectly fine and insinuated that I was after a refund despite consuming the product which in most parts, was not the case at all. She referred to the staff member who I dealt with in Head Office in having no stake in their business and what they have to say is irrelevant and she won’t provide a refund. She treated me like a cheapskate and so I left the store and threw out all of them. I’ve since received a response from Head Office advising me “I have spoken with the Franchisee of the bakery who has advised me that on inspecting the product you returned he could not find any issue with it”. This is awkward seeing that I hadn’t even returned it! Just goes to show how quick they are to deflect and cover up. I will never look at Baker’s Delight Hot Cross Buns the same and will be sure to let everyone I know in the community to never support this store.
I found a black lump in a white loaf at the end of December. I took it back to the bakery but got no call back from the store manager nor did I get a response from my subsequent website complaint. I'd love to know what the lump is as I'd eaten half the loaf before finding the contamination.
Loaves are now smaller but cost extra!
Have been buying BD for some time now and I’m tired of the loaves getting smaller and more expensive!! If you want people to buy your bread make it more attractive to the buyer!!! Go back to the original bigger size and price and you might sell more, Woolies and Coles are much cheaper. The amount made everyday is also too much, by 5 pm it looks like more than half is leftover which I know is tossed out. What a waste.
Bakers Delight - Ocean Keys
I have been buying bread from Bakers Delight in Clarkson for the past three years. I wonder why I left it so long before changing. The bread is rarely cooked. It is half raw and has to be peeled off the next slice. I was buying the High Tin Loaf for the past two years, but not only did I have the half cooked problem, but sometimes it would fit in the toaster and others it wouldn't. The baking is wholly inconsistent.
Today was the final straw. I bought some lemon tarts. The pastry tastes and feels like it has never seen an oven. It ta...stes and feels like it has been left out to dry and then put on the shelves. While the lemon curd was delicious, the pastry was vile. I just can't bring myself to shop at this franchise any longer. Too much money has been spent on disgusting products.
Staff are mistreated
I used to work here and get regular customers. Sometimes people would complain the bread isn't well done or its become hard (its due to being left in an open counter) . The bread is overpriced and staff are underpaid. I think its really sad that people don't know the reality that most girls leave within 3 months because of how poorly they are treated. The owners are extremely rude and Im sure have been spoken to fair work only to ignore them because they think they have all the power. Its a sad reality of Bakers Delight.
Stale bread at least 2 days old
I am so angry ,sent my husband to Bakers Delight Rozelle to. make sandwiches that night for the next morning to travel with. Stale as anything ,and not only that they charged an extra 50c ,now $4.50 a loaf. If you want fresh bread , dont go there.
Parkholme Adelaide Bakers Delight
Have bought bread on two occasions from this bakery and each time the bread is stale. I suspect they hold the bread over a couple of days and do not bake freshly. If this is not bad enough one of the staff is rude. Would give this bakery less than 1 star if possible.
Gluten free bread experiment
I was thrilled to know that Bakers' Delight were going to trial gluten free bread at a few outlets. I picked up a seeded loaf at Southland, Melbourne. It was $10 for the loaf which is on the high side but I hoped it would be worth it. Well, the first thing I noticed was that it held together very well - an improvement on many GF breads. It also has good sized pieces. My husband says that it doesn't have, what he considers, the unpleasant smell when toasted although I have never noticed this problem. But the drawback is that it doesn't have any taste whatsoever. It is very bland which is a disappointment. I won't buy it again but I appreciate Bakers' Delight in trying to produce GF bread. Hopefully, it will improve over time.
Coffee & Date Log
I have bought the coffee and date log from Beaumaris City Shopping Centre today. I was very disappointed as it was completely burnt. When I opened the bag, I could smell the burnt smell and that you couldn't taste the coffee at all.
This is the second time in a space of two weeks that I’ve bought my favourite scroll from Bakers Delight Leichhardt in the Norton Street Plaza. Both times I’ve been very disappointed with the custard scrolls. They seem to be more coconut icing on top with less to almost no custard inside. I’ll give the Leichhardt shop a miss from now on.
Questions & Answers
Last Friday at my local store I purchased a coffee (and date?) bun and took it home to eat later. It was the most delicious thing I had eaten for quite a while so the following day I returned to purchase half a dozen (to give to my family to try.) I was informed that it was a one day promotion and that the store would not be making them any more. Please, please, please could I implore you to add these to your menu as they are delicious. I am not a regular customer per se but could be if you were to add these (if not daily perhaps bi-daily?) I look forward to hearing back from you.
Catherine H.Bakers Delight
As Bakers Delights are all individually owned you would need to contact your local store directly to discuss this.
Different stores make different product lines so you could check other Bakers Delight stores to see if they make it.. and yes they are very yummy!
Hope this is of some help
