Great service, no hassle re-financing

Recently decided to refinance my home loan, and settled on Bank Australia due to their competitive rates, presence of a branch in town (Canberra), and good reviews from friends. Brad made the whole process fast and easy, didn't try and sell me things I didn't need, was flexible when there were a couple of hitches getting data through the automated processes, and kept me in up to date the whole way through. Highly recommended!

The perfect home loan

When I was looking to buy a new home I came across Bank Australia, mainly because of the competitive home loan rate they offer. And I liked their reputation as "Sustainable Bank". Getting an appointment with Bank Australia's home loan manager in the Sydney CBD branch was incredibly easy, literally go there one day and have an appointment lunchtime the next day.

The initial discussion very soon locked down the type of loan and started the preapproval process. It's the typical paperwork, but nothing out of the ordinary. During the whole pre-approval process I found it very easy to get in contact with my loan manager, emails were promptly replied to and phone calls always either answered or called back without delay.

Once we found our property the home loan was processed super smoothly thanks to the thorough pre-approval process. It also happened in a very transparent way, leaving us in no doubt about the status of the application. Evaluations of the new property and our existing property were promptly forwarded to us. Things like setting up online banking and how to repay / extra repay / redraw are super easy and have been explained in person. Overall I found myself very well taken care of and left with no question throughout the process. I felt like my interest always came first and foremost in all discussions and a lot of effort was put into my loan application by the bank to make sure it is the right loan for me.

Right now, living in our nice new apartment, I feel like I absolutely do have the perfect home loan for my circumstances. Very happy with Bank Australia and their Sydney home loan manager and I can without hesitation recommend it to friends and family.

Amazing Ethics, Terrible Services

I have been with BA for 4 years. Their ethics are amazing and I love everything they stand for. Basic transaction accounts are on par with other banks, their service, and documentation, however; is absolute torture. I have experienced getting a home loan with them, which was incredibly clunky with poor communication as well as personal accounts and business transaction accounts.

My most recent interaction was to apply for a bank guarantee, the paperwork they supplied did not make any sense for the product being applied for (it was a generalized application for all lending types) and then to make matters worse they said that (despite this being a bank guarantee backed by a cash deposit made by me) because my company could not "service" the deposit (I was personally guaranteeing it and I could "service" it) they were going to decline the application.

It kills me so much. I come from a finance background (I work for one of the bigger banks) so it is not for lack of knowledge as to how financial products work that I get frustrated. I want to support Bank Australia and they make it so flipping hard to.

Anyway, I walked down the road and found a bank that understood how the product worked and managed to get what had been a one-week ordeal with BA resolved quickly and efficiently. A massive shame because I want BA to thrive but they seem to be hell-bent on self-destruction.

Fabulous customer service

My dealings with Bank Australia have been through the Ringwood Branch, Eastland Shopping Centre.
My first experience with customer service was with Ms Carolyn Nix, Customer Service Consultant. In general banking matters, and with my elderly mother's Term Deposit transactions, she has been extremely helpful and advisory in sorting out a very delicate matter. Her patience and understanding has been much appreciated. She has followed up and called me back when she said she would. A very professional lady. A pleasure to do business with. We highly commend her as person to do business with

My second experience was in dealing with Ms Lani Swartz, Lending Department. This young lady was absolutely fabulous in dealing with my wife and myself. After 34 years of living at our previous address we, who are both seniors, had made the decision to move house. As you can imagine it is a anxious process at the best of times. Lani put us both at ease immediately. She explained the process of all the various interactions with money and costs and made sure that we completely understood everything before proceeding to the next matter or issue. She went to great lengths to ensure that we were not over committing ourselves or did not know where we were in the "money"train. When she said that she would follow up on something and get back to us she did so without any prompting or follow up calls on our part. She regularly interacted with our conveyancer, when they had any queries. She was our calming influence in the whole process when we had a few anxious moments. While she always interacted with us in a bright cheerful manner she always presented in a most professional manner. My wife and I had the utmost confidence in her work and the final outcome. We have now been in our new house 28 days and thoroughly love it. Lani made a very stressful exercise ( moving house) much easier to deal with. We highly recommend her for her diligence, her work ethic, her professionalism and her friendliness in this major transaction.

Customer service by George at the Morwell branch is professional & exceptional

Been with the bank for many decades when it was called SEC credit union. Staff at the Morwell branch are a great team and George would be the stand out.

Best Bank EVER!!!

I have been using Bank Australia for a couple of years now and never had any issues. If there were any questions, the knowledgeable staff helped me out in seconds. And the best thing about Bank Australia is that they don't support Alcohol, Tabaco, Gambling, Mining etc so I know that my values are respected!

Worst experience ever

Opened an account online and next day was unable to log on, i.e. password was not accepted. Contacted them, got a new password, next day was unable to log on, i.e. password was not accepted. They won't reply to my emails, ask me to log on [!!!] and contacting them via the website. Now, I have an account but have no access to it. Yey. Bunch of ...

Easy switch, glad I finally did it!

After putting off switching to Bank Australia for some time due to thinking it would be a hassle, I couldn't have been more satisfied with how easy and quick the process was. Coming from a big 4, I was impressed at user experience which I thought would be lacking at a smaller bank. It was an easy online switch & account opening procedure, they have Apple Pay, I was set up on their app within 10 minutes of switching, and I have had nothing but amazing customer service when I rang up their call centre. Proud to be divesting and thankful for Bank Australia's responsible banking philosophy across the board.

Leaving because of Support of GETUP

We have been dealing with Bank Australia in Townsville (Qld) for almost 4 years now and during that time have secured 3 home loans. The manager and staff have gone above and beyond what is expected every single time. Excellent customer service and low fees for 25 years

I have been with Bank Australia (and MECU) for almost 25 years. During that time I have done personal and business banking with Bank Australia.
Their service and customer focus has always been excellent and courteous.

When RAMS sold their mortgage book to Westpac in the early 1990s our interest rate skyrocketed. Bank Australia quickly expedited a home loan for the mortgage and we were finally free from corporate gouging.

The only two negatives I have are:
1. Pressure to take personal income protection insurance with Allianz, and
2. The Bank's arrangement with GetUp!

Despite that, I highly recommend Bank Australia.

Not happy about my bank funding politics

I have been with Bank Australia (formerly Intech Credit Union) for over 10 years but will be moving my mortgage to another bank now that I see it is financially linked to funding #GetUp and pushing climate political initiatives. I initially joined the former Intech Credit Union over ten years ago because fees were low and the management was transparent and aligned to the interests of its members. I'll be looking for another bank that can have a better focus on member value than pushing political interests.

Total satisfaction

I've been with Bank Australia since their inception, and continuously with one of the credit unions that merged to form them since 1995 - nearly 24 years. Hands down the best banking experience - I've tried several others over that time and have have always been disappointed in comparison. That is because they are actually a customer focussed organisation rather than a purely for-profit money making operation.

We have just taken out a mortgage with Bank Australia. The process could hardly have been more straightforward and transparent. Brad, the customer service person who took care of our business throughout the 3 month period from pre-approval to settlement was thorough, helpful, responsive, and took care to make sure all the procedures and requirements were clearly explained and straightforward to follow, allowing us to concentrate on other things. The level of documentation provided was excellent. On the day, settlement went through seamlessly and smoothly - the Bank's legal team were like a well oiled machine working hand in glove with the loans department.

Even prior to taking out this mortgage I have been impressed by Bank Australia's commitment to service and transparency, and its staff's preparedness to help solve problems. If there were more institutions like Bank Australia we wouldn't have had a royal commission into the banks. It is possible that I'm paying a fraction of a percent more on my mortgage, but I'd sooner do that, and have any excess go to the worthy social and environmental causes that Bank Australia supports, than contribute a cent to the bonuses of execs in the unscrupulous for-profit banks. I'm happy to put my money to (and with) an organisation that aligns with my aspiration for a fairer and more equitable Australia.

Worst Bank Ever

We have been with this bank for two years as a business but will move all our business banking. They are so hopeless that every transaction is clunky. If your business has hours and hours of time to waste on frustrating small transactions then this is the bank for you. Every single step has been hopeless, foreign transactions, managing account signatories, responsiveness.

Terrible customer service and not transparent procedures

Was recommended to consider a home loan form the Bank Australia by a home loan specialist. The conditions were quite attractive and I decided to go. Filled all forms, submitted all the required documents but already the second day after the submission got a first surprise - bank increased the interest rate from 3.69% to 3.74%. With that rate the conditions became much less attractive but I decided to continue. Few days after I got a conditional loan approval for the sum I wanted. I was ready to pay 20% deposit and to cover the rest by the mortgage. Soon I found a brand new property I liked. Before signing the contract, the bank was contacted to discuss whether the apartment I want to buy meets Bank Australia's criteria. The answer was - yes, go ahead. I signed the contract, paid 0.25% deposit to the developer, submitted all the required documents to the bank. Few days after I was told, that the property does not meet Banks criteria (!!!) and they can give me only 60% of the required sum because of this. Full stop - I have to cancel the contract, lose 0.25% and a lot of time. All these conditions and hidden criteria should have been communicated by the bank before but it was not the case. Moreover, bank was informed in regards to the property size/type before signing the contract and there was no any questions from their side. Lesson learnt - never ever I want to hear anything about Bank Australia for the rest of my life. And of course I will not recommend it to all my friends and relatives.

Banking done right - for the consumer not corporate greed

I've been with Bank Australia for 3+ years now, since I bought my house. Bank Australia is a responsible corporate citizen and puts the customer, community and the environment first, not corporate greed, profits and big bonuses. The banking royal commission, and the skeletons that have jumped out of the closet, has again made me realise how Bank Australia is where all Australians should be banking - not the big 4!!!

This account has an $8 monthly fee with unlimited transactions, including online. In terms of the international sales we'd need to chat through your requirements to provide suitable information.
