One of the worst bank i have ever dealt with
For the purpose of building credibility for my review, I own 3 investment properties, 3 land parcels and I apply for credit cards almost on a quaterly basis. I open and close them on a 6 months rotation. No bad dept, high credit score and always pay the interest to the propertirs on time and pay out the credit card debt. The high rotation is just due to sign up bonuses most banks offered.
I have dealt with most major banks including and not limited to Bankwest, Westpac, Citibank, American Express, NAB, ANZ, HSBC, st George, etc.
I applied fo...r a new card online, summited the usual documents that i submitted to other banks (including ATO NOA & employer PAYG slip) - same details and it is normal for most banks to come back asking for more details and in this case they ask for a bank statement for the last 3 months showing income. I had my income distributed to 2 different accounts, again due to account benefits. But the statements only came in quarterly and i happen to be on the wrong end of the stick, latest statement from the bank is about 1 month and 2 months old reslectively. So i lodged a transaction listing showing the last 3 months of account activity. For both accounts, naming the files of thr PDF by the account name. Sure enough i had a message to call the bank. So then i called and pretty sure went to a call centre in India ( overall i rang 4 times, all Indians).
Non Existent Customer Service
A simple refinance to parent bank Westpac has taken more than 5 months and is still not completed. Even lodging a complaint gets you nothing but lip service. Requested a statement of interest for an another loan that had just been discharged, and was told they can only send them by post or to a branch. 5 - 7 working days. Seriously in this day an age? Most other banks can just email these out immediately.
They are simply not interested. The sheer number of 1 star reviews says it all.
If i could give no stars i would! Worst bank ever!
Worst bank in the history of Australia! They closed all my accounts without a shadow of an explanation as to why. They sent me 30 notice and tried calling them religiously to ask for an explanation and maybe a review/reversal, no call back at all. Extremely rude and useless! Imagine how hard it is to replace all your direct debits, credits, credit cards etc stripped away just like that without even an explanation or a chance for their decision to be reviewed. After banking with them for 5 years you dont even get a call back. All y'all stay away from this bank!!!
Terrible service, rude and no consistent information
I’ve been with this bank for 2 years and found myself in a hard situation where I needed to refinance. I called once to get information regarding if I was able to refinance the mortgage into my name With my income and rental income. Received information that I could and the lady said it was an option for me to explore. I asked to think about it and call them back. Called them and got a man this time who told me that he couldn’t tell me if it’s an option, wouldn’t tell me an estimate of my potential borrowing capacity and refused to even tell me...how long I would need to have rental income for before I could use it to demonstrate my borrowing capacity. The lady earlier in the week was able to tell me ball park details (albeit in a fairly rude and blunt manner). He belittled me and was evasive to my general questions. I was not rude in my questioning, I was genuinely confused because of the lack of consistent information. I have never once left a phone call with bank of Melbourne feeling happy or satisfied with the way I’ve been spoken to. Do not recommend getting a home loan with them. It’s a bit of a nightmare if you need their advice or assistance in any way.
Staff so incompetent you couldn’t make it up
Took so long to process my loan that I almost lost my holding deposit. Then I paid off my loan early. Account was removed from my APP so thought all Ok. Now trying to purchase another car but the account was closed incorrectly so they cant provide anything to give to my new lender. It’s been escalated but they tell me it could be weeks to sort out. Thanks for nothing.
Quite Possibly the Worst Bank in the World
This bank is so bad it is laughable. They honestly could not stuff up more if they tried. Painfully slow to process anything and when they do, 99.9% of the time it will be full of mistakes. Avoid at all costs and look elsewhere.
Zero stars if I could- Worst bank ever, no such thing as customer service at Bank of Melbourne
Been with BOM for 9 years. Home loan originally St George, So no choice at time when Bom took over. redraws were always a problem, forced to open an account to deposit our redraws in first, just poor. Today Hours on phone to query a transaction and stating we had defaulted. Impossible as we pay above loan payments by an enormous amount weekly via the banks own direct debit that they established. Clearly shows Bom received and also taken from external bank account. In Bom for over an hour at a scheduled appointment to close loan and account. Cou...ldn’t be done because no one in their half a dozen different departments could say why this is so, staff member was on hold to these departments throughout the hour. Left with no resolution, lost an hours work and are no better off. Just want BOM out of our lives. Never ever deal with the Bank of Melbourne, local branch means nothing with the ridiculous call centres that local staff have to interact with. If you like to be left hanging, have no answers, while they pilfer you’re money, then this bank may be for you. At a local level no preparation prior to appointment was completed when my husband and I were specific in what we wanted to do on the day. None of it makes sense. Very very poor and very angry at how we have been treated. Asked if we could get manager to call someone higher up and were told he would also have to wait on hold as well. Awesome the bank manager supposedly has to wait in a phone cue to a Bom call centre. Please.......I think we were lied to. After an hour sitting in there in these times of Covid-19 we were done. Walked out to him assuring us he will call and let us know and will stay on phone. He didn’t of course. We rang at 4.45pm bank closed at 5pm rang rang rang no answer, nearly got to 5pm and emailed him. Oh I have had other appointments, still saying money hasn’t cleared and won’t for 5 days???????? Um yeah right funny how it’s on our Bom bank statement as deposited, lodged a formal complaint and if not resolved to our satisfaction next week will go higher I guess
Secure code will never sent to you...
I am banking with BoM for a number of years .. actually this bank is my saving dock.
The biggest problem is when you want to make transaction to a new payee.. they never send you the secure code by any of the two methods (SMS and phone call) they offer. Because I re-ordered secure code, my account was suspended twice. had to go through id verification twice each took 25 mins
This means that I had to pay late payment fees and have no access to my fund when is most needed, absolute unreliableness.
Seems like it's getting longer to process transactions to your own different account
It used to be no longer than one business day for BPay . It's now 2-3 business days to process BPay transactions to your own different account with another bank. Covid-19 has definitely affected the productivity on bank employees sadly!
EDIT - I received the credit the next business day itself and thought I should give them the due credit . Had I not been on top of this would have taken 2-3 days for sure
Fraudulent transactions process
Recently someone fraudulently purchased items using my visa debit card. The bank stated it would be 21 days before i receive an investigation number and then up to 45 days before i would see my money if they deemed it was fraud.
The purchased items were still pending when i stopped the card. I bet it would be different if it was the banks money!!!
Worst credit card application process ever
I applied for an amplify credit card in early April. The process was taking a while so I texted to get status updates and was told I would hear back in 2 days every time I asked for a status update. This went on for nearly 3 weeks. At the same time my housemate applied for a card a few days after me and was approved weeks before me. After nearly a month and a half and multiple phone calls I was approved and sent a letter saying my card was on the way. The letter also had a form with it but didn't tell me I needed to send it in so I waited a few...weeks and no card arrived so I called up. Turns out I needed to send in an identification form which for some reason my housemate who also applied for a card didn't have to do. So I sent in the form paid the post office lady to witness and verify my passport. Then a month passes and still no card so I call up to check the progress. After the bloke on the phone puts me on hold about 5 times he tells me I need to e the identification form. I say I've already done it but he says they have no record of it and I will need to do it again. By this stage it has been 3 months since I first applied so I decided to cancel the card. I don't trust these people with my money.
Wish I could give zero stars!
Terrible customer service, after 3 hours on the phone with them still no closer to resolving our home loan issue. I thought the COVID pause was going to be a helpful solution to those struggling, definitely not if you are with Bank of Melbourne!
Bank Of Melbourne Review
I have been with BOM for more than 10 years and has been great but as soon as I have spotted an unauthorised transaction on the Visa account, I have contacted the fraud support to assist the case and believe or not I had to be out of the pocket about $410 for something that I didn't authorise. The support was very aggressive and unprofessional standing they ground talking all over me that I had to ask, can I please say something? after trying to have a polite conversation. I will now cancel my account and go else were no r...
This has to be the worst bank for CC applications in the world.
Please go somewhere else. They will waste hours and hours of your life!!!
I have never been messed about so badly in all my life.
Customer service in non existing!!
Credit card application
Cannot emphasise enough how poor Bank of Melbourne has been to work with. I have had loans and credit cards with a range of banks. This is by far the worst bank I have ever associated with. Applied for a credit card mid way into April. It is now the start of June, after 2 phone lengthy calls and an hour wait at a store, I am still no closer to knowing whether I will have my card. Application was filled out correctly, and bank workers haven't been able to explain why it is not coming. I would strongly advise customers away from Bank of Melbourne. I have found ANZ and BankWest to be the best I have been associated with.

Make sure all your details are in, even you date of birth, who you have loved in your life, who you have met on trains, where you have lived, & who with, whatever you can think of, even if you dye your hair...... They are so fanatical, it's mad.....&.. YOU have to tell them, THEY DON'T ASK You!! They are so protective of themselves, they want to know what brand knickers you are wearing, & when you last washed them.............. Is all that safe? Not always, I'm still waiting! 2wks Late already! Grrrrrr!!!!! Take a list of this with the answers, as they DO NOT ASK YOU!!! GRRR! But, end of the day, the Staff are nice... It's their idiotic system, They should have a list of queries too!
I am not sure but I would recommend going to Westpac and opening a Westpac Choice Account and a Westpac eSaver account since you get better interest on those accounts.
