Why can't published "in stock" info be accurate?
I checked the Hinterland 240v air pump I wanted was "in stock" at Pacific Fair (QLD) branch. Yes. But when I got there, none on shelf, & not even a label with an empty shelf.
Went to Service Desk, with only one person there to answer phones and in person enquiries. Waited a while to be told the item had just come in & was being unpacked, but if I wanted to wait, a team member could be despatched to try and find one in the delivery. Estimated time for that was unsure, so rather than waste more time I went to Bunnings to buy the Ozito equivalent....Read more

Worst customer service ever
Worst customer service ever, won’t even pack a bag - 1 star is too much.
What I would like to say:
“Sorry to the staff at Big W Wonthaggi for putting you out and inconveniencing you by shopping in your store. If I’d realised I would be such a burden, I never would have made this mistake & upset you so. No worries though, it won’t happen again. I’ll be sure to let my friends & family know that we, the customer are not wanted, not welcome & should find another alternative. At least we have other options. Cheers & Merry Christmas!”

They Don't Train Staff - Don't Want Our Business
3 INCIDENTS PAST 6 MONTHS:
1/. visited Tweed Heads store to buy filter for water jug. Took old filter to make sure it was correct size. Display shelf had an opened pKt when I arrived so I picked up the cartridge to check if it appeared the same. A staff member - older male came down aisle from some way off to tell me that what I had opened would cost me $30 (the cartridge was $14). I am 76 and explained that it was already opened. Didn't believe me so I just left the store without purchasing anything.
2/- Went into Tweed Heads store, asked for ...Read more

Big W store detective tactics
Regarding, "The death of bricks and mortar" Product Review by Chris B. on 2 Dec 2020.
Here's my experience at Big W, Auburn Central.
While I was shopping for trousers, a plainclothes store detective deliberately kicked my heel as he walked behind me. It wasn't a slight bump but an actual kick, hard enough to get my heel to slide. Likely, no surveillance camera would have been able to record the kick, though. This tactic is used to draw the target into a response.
At the time, as far as I could notice, I was perhaps the only customer in the s...Read more
tore. The aisle I was in had chest-high shelving racks (I could see around the store almost wall-to-wall) and was wide enough for a shopping trolley to pass comfortably behind me. I even moved forward to allow the person to pass behind me. After kicking my heel, the store detective walked away, slowly. At the end of the aisle, he looked back at me. Failing to get a response from me, the store detective slowly drifted by on the other side of the shelving racks, as close to arms length as he could get, glancing sideways at me, then continuing on, slowly, looking over his shoulder toward me a couple of times. The expression on his face was apprehension. Why? I was much bigger than the store detective, and, what he didn't realise, I am more of a gentleman than he ever will be.Similar opinion? This afternoon at Big W
I bought a few items: floss and food scales. I had already bought something at Just Jeans. So, in the self service I put my bag down when it asked for my bag. The light to show I did something wrong lights up and is red. I forget it has to be an empty bag. The guy fixes it then I put the bag down hoping the new weight of my previous buy and the floss is fine. It goes red again. Then the guy working the self service decided to come over and look in my bag and then put the items through himself and act like I was 2 years old and keep narrating wh...Read more

Illogical hiring practice and lack of men in recruitment
Women are mostly involved in the hiring process, which makes the job interview intimidating for a man. They won’t hire someone who is readily available for work, has no dependants, physically fit, and energetic. They have no patience to teach someone how to perform duties; learning on the job isn’t an Option. You must already have experience in retail.
Instead, they’ll choose unfit, older, overweight candidates, who most likely have dependents. They also don’t handle the ambition of workers wanting to ascend the ladder, as higher ups feel threatened and they worry about their job security. I really wanted to work there.

TIP : Why you need a receipt to refund or exchange sizes
I shop with Bigw a lot and I can see a lot of people here have the same refund gift issue , a helpful tip that there is gift receipt option if your planning to purchase the item as a gift just ask the checkout or service staff for it. You need a receipt is due to the fact a lot of people just grab items from the clothing section and demands a refund , there is no way of telling if your purchased it as all tags are the same in product code and also due to dishonest people these days makes it diffcult to distinguish between honest and scumbags.

Avella clothing sizing is terrible
I needed a new pair of jeans. Went to Big W, Mirrabooka, and they have a great range’ unfortunately, sizing is anHUGE is. 2 pairs of the same size as labeled, and 1 pair is in fact about 3 sizes bigger around the waists, but then it’s legs are about 8 sizes too small.
The other pair, while fitting around the waist, has tents for the legs :(
Honestly, both labeled the same size :(
They’re going back, and I won’t buy from Big W again.
Oh, and Kmart has a similar issue
I’m told both companies use Chinese manufacturing...by staff
And staff also told me that it’s the pick of the draw with Avella sizing, they they have no control over it

Dunlop Size 7 Basketball Exploded
I bought a size 7 dunlop basketball from the big W location at garden city shopping centre with my partner, we took it out to the open court at the same shopping centre, took some turns trying to throw it into the net for ~15-20 minutes before deciding to go home, while sitting at the bus stop waiting to go the ball started making strange noises before exploding about a minute later, destroying my hearing for about 45 minutes and terrifying everybody else in the bus stop (it was very loud), all in all I wouldn't recommend getting balls atleast from here, couldn't even find a proper way to leave a review on the actual product

Appalling staff behaviour
Big W Young should be ashamed of the staff in lay-by section. The woman's manner is completely hostile and she plays the victim when it is the customer that was being spoken to rudely. TEN MINUTES wait and not a single soul answered the bell at the desk (four times in 10 minutes it was pressed) and (because I care for a sick child who was tired) I rang the front desk to send someone up. The woman who arrived was cold and rude, speaking down to me in front of my child. The manager did apologise but in a very condescending tone like I was one of ...Read more
her staff and made the emotional issues I was having after the rude experience with her staff about her own feelings at my queries if this staff member will actually be talked to about her behaviour. It really is the blind leading the blind in that store. A few suggestions is that the manager of the store should stop holding her staff meeting in a wide circle where customers are entering when the store opens and keep them there so long that there are no staff on the floor to help customers needing assistance or at lay-by. And also, if people like the one at lay-by obviously hate their job and take their frustrations out on customers, hire one of the MANY other people looking for work that would appreciate the position.Similar opinion? Party section. Balloon rip off
I had a kids birthday party and had 6 small of my own helium balloons. I went into big w store the afternoon before the party and got them blown up. It cost $40! I thought there must've been some mistake so went back into store the next to check(was in a rush before) and the manager was abrupt and said not their problem.

Happy customer
I purchased a pair of women’s Tradie work boots called “The Boss”. Unassisted but that’s ok. Greeted at store front by friendly staff. I found what I was looking for and happily purchased it. Price was better than what I had been comparing to. Really comfortable. Cashier service was pleasant and happy. Satisfied shopping experience!

Racist Employee
Hiring racist employees.
As I walk into the store yesterday I said "Hi, how are you?" to the lady at the entrance. She looked really grumpy and turned her face away. I didn't really cared so I kept walking into the store looking for what I wanted to buy. Couldn't find what I was looking for so I walk out to exit the store. Again I was being polite and said "Thank you" as I was walking out.
She again was grumpy and looked the other way. At the exact moment another customer was walking out. She start to smile and said "Thank you and have a good day!"
I was like wth...what is her problem. Because I am Asian and the other customer is not Asian.
To confirm my suspicions I stand at the front of the store and watched...and discovered:

Has anyone else had any issues with the big w range of licensed tshirts finding small holes in the front of them once they have worn them once then washed them? I have a snoopy one, two bon Jovi tshirts and a Volkswagen one and they now all have holes that have appeared in the front of the fabric? I thought I must have moths but I have checked other clothing in my wardrobe and they are fine ???
