Hello,
I've just started looking for a dehydrator and came across yours which so far looks great. I am wondering if ALL trays need to be filled when dehydrating or can some trays be left empty if required whilst still achieving excellent results ?
(Apologies if this topic has been covered and I have not found the info.)
Kind regards,
Leah

We have the 10 tray Arizona, you do not need to use the full capacity, it makes no difference other than economy. e.g.. Dehydrated 3 trays of 10mm sliced bananas this week, ~9 hours at 62 degrees... great results.

Just looking to get an indication of where to best place my Arizona Sol 3 tray ( sorry, no 3 tray listing). How much space should be between the back and the top of the unit? Should there be ventilation in the room which it is placed? Would I expect condensation coming from the machine in an enclosed room? Should the room be open or closed? Sorry for the multiple questions, new to dehydration machines.

Apologies, it is actually the 6 tray, not sure where I got that from.

We have the 10 tray unit, it doesn't require that much back or top clearance as the air exits along the side vents at the front, and around the front door . The top does not get that hot, same with the rear - the fan at the rear pushes the hot air toward the front. Give clearance above the unit at the front of the machine, and as the base gets quite warm it should be placed on an insulating board, like a bread board, if you have it on a timber surface you want to protect. Ours is in an open plan kitchen, never noticed any condensation, and no need to leave windows open if that is what you mean. If in doubt regarding placement you could check your manual.

I have used my 6 tray machine twice and went to use it again and it comes up with the letter ‘A’ on digital screen and won’t do anything else to turn on. So frustrating!!! Nothing on manual says anything about it either

Hi, I have just been given the Arizona Sol 9 tray but on looking inside see that it's plastic. Is this plastic any of these: Polypropylene (PP)
Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE)
Silicone
Acrylonitrile Styrene (AS)
Acrolonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS)

I have heard that "BPA-free plastic” doesn't mean a whole lot.
Thanks.

Hi, I’m looking for advice on whether to buy the Bil Chef or Excalibur model. We are a family of 4 that all love our jerky. So it is pretty specific for jerky use. Thank you

Hi Krys, thank you for getting in touch. You can not go wrong with any of the BioChef models for Beef Jerky. It really just depends on what size you are looking for. We have 6 tray, 8 tray. 10 tray and all the way up to 30 Tray. They all basically have the same functionality, it basically comes down to which design you prefer. Please do not hesitate to ask if there is anything else that I can help you with. Kind regards, BioChef

Can I dehydrate a meal

1 answer
BioChef
Vitality 4 LifeBioChef

Hi Connie, thank you for very much for getting in touch. Most foods can be dehydrated, with the general exclusion of dairy products and high-fat items. Unlike fruit, meat and most vegetables should be cooked first before dehydrating. Once you have a variety of dried ingredients, you can assemble them into meals. Some whole meals can be prepared and then dehydrated, like soup and risotto. This minimises prep even further and allows flavors to meld.
For efficiency, consider dehydrating a variety of foods at the same time, so long as they require the same drying temperature. I hope that helps. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if there is anything else that we can help you with. Kind regards, Hayley

I've just got this dehydrator and I'm surprised to find the timer only works in half hour units. The instructions say to run it for 45 min empty before use. Doubly confused. Is this user failure or does it only time by half hour slots? Thank you for your advice.

1 answer
BioChef
Vitality 4 LifeBioChef

Hi Danielle its ok you can set it for an hour. It wont do any harm as the dehydrator runs for 4 - 6 hours plus anyway. That is a typo in the manual. You can definitely set the timer for the hours needed by just pressing the plus/timer sign. Directions are in the manual. Any issues please let us know. Regards Bec V4L

what is better - arizona or arizona sol - and why?

3 answers
BioChef
Vitality 4 LifeBioChef

Hi Tim, the main difference of these 2 models is the drying time, the Arizona Sol has 19.5 420-500w (lower energy consumption) and removable door, and the Arizona 24hrs 800w. So I guess the Arizona Sol would be the way to go. :) Anymore questions please ask. Regards Bec V4L

Daniel Day-Lutz

Doesn’t That mean that the Arizona vs Arizona Sol is better, because it’s more powerful and dries everything quicker? I actually don’t like the cheap looking door from the Arizona sol. The Arizona looks better.

BioChef
Vitality 4 LifeBioChef

Hi Daniel, it is personal choice really. The Arizona is a great unit and some people do definitely prefer the design of the Arizona. The Arizona will definitely dry more quickly and evenly. Please do not hesitate to ask if there is anything else that I can assist you with. Kind regards, BioChef

Can you dehydrate stews and soups?

1 answer
BioChef
Vitality 4 LifeBioChef

Hi Moss, yes you can the trick is apparently to slowly simmer for a few hours until it has reduced almost to a past (without burning of course :) then you can spoon the thick paste onto the non-stick sheets in circles and dehydrate. There is another way to dehydrate all the ingredients separately, ie; pieces of meat, veggis, herbs etc. You can then re-hydrate in some boiling water and add spice mix. There are some great recipes on the internet. Have fun. Bec V4L

Hi we have an 8 tray biochef hydrator for a few years now.
Often when first turned on it gives an E1 error code and stops after a few minutes. We have to turn it off and on again a few times until it keeps going. Cannot find in the manual or online what this means.

Hi Peter, it may have something to do with the door magnet. Sometimes if it is off centre/loose it can read this error. You may have to send it in for a service. If you would like to please contact us at support@vitality4life.com
