Low fuel consumption, good peformance for a 1500 kg vehicle
I like the diesel 320d version a lot as uses less fuel (around 7L/100km) mixed driving, and servicing intervals are 25.000 kms or 1 year. Basically all you need is change the motor oil and brake fluid every 2 years, and top up other fluids if necessary. Filters are replaced every 100.000 kms.
With proper TLC these cars should last a lifetime.
You pay for the badge too BUT if you're unlucky you may end up with frequent trips to dealerships.
For those considering purchasing a preowned BMW, be careful as you never know what's wrong with your ...Read more

Best car I've ever owned
I've owned a Mazda, four Audis and an HSV, and this 3 series is my favorite car of all. I was lucky enough to get a German-built version when the 2009 model first came out. No problems at all with build quality, not a single thing has gone wrong in 2 years.
I don't find the run flats to be too hard, but I came from an HSV with 19" rims, so anything was going to be softer.
320d engine has ample power and great delivery. Economy isn't flash - around town 7.5l/100km and low 6s on freeway trips, versus official combined figure of 5.4L. That's the only downside (other than purchase cost, of course).
Reliable, smooth, great build quality, good styling (with sport pack)
18" rims make for expensive tyres

Good
My boyfriend bought this car when it has done 60,000 kilometers. It was a 4 door 1998 sedan. We really loved the car and wouldn't want to sell it if it wasn't too expensive to maintain. It was a wonderful car to drive around. However, when we had to fix anything it was so dear so we went back to purchase a Toyota.
Great German luxury. Great to drive. Excellent handling. Very easy and fun to drive.
Expensive to maintain which was the main reason we sold the car. The parts are very dear. Not very good value for money.

My 323i M Sport is now 18 months old. Had minimal issues with it, all fixed at BMW Melbourne with no fuss at all. Have just replaced tyres with non run flats, and it makes a world of difference to noise, ride and handling. Just needed to buy the "Mobility" pump/puncture repair kit from dealer.
Great car, a pleasure to drive.
Run flat tyres, limited rear legroom

My father recently purchased an '09 325i Coupe and it is a fantastic piece of machinery. It looks stunning, much better than the 4 door and sits beautifully on the road. It has so many features theres to many to list. The car sounds fantastic and the engine + transmission work great together. To achieve the sporty looks of the car it has firm suspension and big wheels which cause a harsh-ish ride but it feels extremely solid and hugs the bends because of it. There is plenty of room in the back for passengers which is a suprise and the seats hol...Read more
d you in quite well. BMW have not gone cheap on the interior with beautiful leather trim and polished woodgrain. One tip I would give to prospective buyers: The 323i has the same 2.5L motor as the 325i however in the 325i the engine is tuned providing it with much better performance than the 323i. The 323i felt sluggish and slow compared with the 325i. Great looking machine. Very quick. Sounds great. Interior is a beautiful place to be. Room in the back for passengers. Slightly harsh ride comfort (big wheels and low suspension cause it). Run flat tyres.Similar opinion? Write a review on ProductReview.com.au!

Expected a lot more from a prestige car
I purchased the car in one day loved the look of the car and it was time to downsize from a 4wd, the kids had grown and the petrol was so expensive for the use it was getting. I have to tell that my previous 4wd was a Toyota so that I can address this issue, the windshield wipers when activated stop right in front of my eyes on the return action and this happened every time, the action is repeated as much as every 10 seconds or so. Extremely distracting and annoying, like with all matters of financial gain if you wish to sell the product in Aus...Read more
tralia do so by converting the parts that make a big difference to comfort. Also the navigation system for this car including voice command is dated, I think that if they purchased a Tom Tom and placed it in the Innovations pack they would have had a better result all around. For e.g The Tom Tom has voice commands that work, red light camera and traffic alerts and its only $300.00 dollars compared to $85000.00. The Runflat Tyres thump on the ground and transfer into the cabin, they are such a hard compound rubber that your ears will hear the road way after you get out of the car. You even get to have a phone connection that eats up the centre console for free and its not useable with the mobile phones we have. The shape and the name and my 5 series 1997 BMW was a great car and I thought the 3 series would match. There are cars out there with more to offer at half the price. Can't wait to trade this car in.Similar opinion? Write a review on ProductReview.com.au!

What a fantastic car the quality and finish is fantastic and the driving experience is exceptional if you have the money to spend you will not be unhappy with your choice.
I have been the very happy owner of my 323i for just over 1 year now and I would only ever sell it to update to another BMW. To be very honest I was a big believer in you pay for a badge, how wrong I was. This car is a dream to drive I have the M Sport kit on mine so not only does it look fantastic with options like the sports steering wheel you feel in control at all times. ...Read more

Great car, which drives very well, the 4 cylider has bugger all power but you don't really need it if you're driving in the city, how fast do you need to get to the next traffic light? City driving does chew up a lot of petrol though, don't go thinking fuel economy when buying this car.
Just bought a 2007 320i, great looking car, very nice interior, drives very well.
Gets hot inside - due to the engine being closer to the driver, servicing isn't cheap. Had a light bulb blow out just after I bought the car and cost me $40 to replace it, mechanic...Read more

I was stupid enough to buy one that had not been looked after at all, but it was cheap, and to get it back close to how it should have been to start with has cost me around $4000. I hated the car immediately after buying it, disappointed in just how much worse it was than my E39 (best car I'v ever owned), but it's grown on me now and I would recommend looking at a mid size euro take a serious look at an E46, just make sure it's been looked after, garaging essential!

I think it is an excellent car to drive. Have not had any problem with it thus far. The interiors are plush and the aircon is excellent. There is plenty of boot space. For me the real negative is the fact that the car is underpowered. There is the sports option, but it is quite noisy when you are using the sports option.
Own a 320i. Fantastic interiors. Looks great.
Underpowered. Run flat tires makes the ride a bit bumpy.

Overall a bit disappointed with the little things that have gone wrong but I guess I have a high expectation for a vehicle that cost over 100k to drive out the showroom (should last indefinitely ;-)!!! Looks and goes great when its in the mood.
2001 330i with m3 front spoiler, looks awesome, handles great, performs well, great fuel economy for a powerful motor....8.6l/100k combined town/highway.... amazing brakes
interior quality not up to BMW standards, window regulator on passenger front door has failed (common problem), brake dust on the wheels, small boot, small hard to use controls unless you are very familliar with them, no lumbar support on front seats????, has engine management hiccups (due to camshaft position sensor failure)

This is an older but still beautiful car 1998 328i, and goes well, 2 door windows tension wiring broke twice but on different windows, and cost a lot to fix but I guess thats to be expected. Tried getting it serviced at the local garage a few years ago, but it wasn't happy so back to the BMW dealer again and it purrs every time it comes out of servicing, Hope it will last me forever. I think it is the best classic looking BMW series car around.
Cost of servicing
