Limited life - If you purchase Get the extended warranty
I purchased the BES920 in Jan 2017 from Harvey Norman. I thought that it was fantastic producing cafe quality strong coffee. So I encouraged my brother and mother to also get one. Within a year the boiler broke and was fixed under warranty, I think that it should have been replaced. 2 years later (Jan 2020) out of warranty and boilers were totally gone. Repair man said it would cost more to fix. Seems my brother had the same issue and his boilers broke within 3 years also. No coincidence, repairman told him it's a common fault. For $1000 I expect more than 3 years of use. Really annoyed and disappointed. 4 yr extended warranty and all would be fine.
Produces great coffee but make sure you get the extended warranty.
Purchased in January 2017 at Harvey Norman for $1,000.00.
Model B has full Power OFF after 20 minutes
I recently purchased a new (second) BES920 machine.
Its a model B. woo hoo, maybe they've improved some features.
It seems the only NEW and improved feature that it simply powers off completely after 20 minutes.
Seriously, it takes 5-6 minutes to just get the boilers up to temp, and the warming plate slightly warm.
So if you turn it on, put your cups on it, then have some food, and then want to make your coffee, o ryou wanta second cup. Oh look, the machine has turned OFF.
Who would do this stupid change?
I bought the new one because
1) it was on special (<$800)

Great!
This is a really good coffee machine, the 3 star review is because it doesn’t leave room for large cups to be put under it.
Also the grinder is very very noisy at 3 am in the morning. But that’s probably as I am the only 9ne up at that time.

Worked well for just under 2 years
After completing lots of research, we purchased the Dual Boiler as it was meant to be one of Breville's better machines. We were able to make pretty good coffee after a short time. Unfortunately, the steam wand developed a slow leak. I didn't think it was anything major, however, the warranty was about to expire so I took it in for repair. The repairer found that one of the boilers had corroded and many of the internals were rusted. The machine was prohibitively expensive to repair, so it was replaced with a brand new machine of the same model.
We're hoping we'll have better luck this time round.
It's a good machine, until it breaks.

Good coffee but failed after 3 years and irreparable, not really good enough Breville
I absolutely loved this machine whilst it was working. It does make excellent coffee that is as good or better than what you can get from most cafes. I was also surprised at how effective the companion grinder was, the timed grinding helped to get consistent dosing and speeds the brewing process. After just under three years it started playing up randomly for a few months before finally failing to heat up. When I took it to the repair place they said it had been leaking internally from the boilers and had corroded the fittings and ruined the ci...
Read morercuit board. It was unfortunately not economically repairable. As a second generation machine I would have thought Breville would have learned something from all the complaints about the BES900 leaking. So three years of great coffee brewing cost me ~$500 per year. I expected at least 5 or more years from this machine. Not really good enough and I will not buy another one. I'll look for something of higher quality from Europe that is durable and repairable. Yes it will cost more butCMVbrisbane

Great machine but it now overflows and coffee goes everywhere
When putting the coffee in it is overflowing and dripping everywhere
Think the parts should be more readily available to fix
It is easy to clean and use but must be careful to not over tighten it and be careful what you put the grind size on
We have the matching set

Disappointing service (NZ)
Purchased BES920 & Smart Grinder July 2015. Had a broken disc in group head in Jan 2017, and problem with extraction timer and start button in May 2017. Took to Breville authorised service agent, first repair took 5 weeks, second repair 6 weeks and still waiting. Part of this is I am in NZ and agents have to send to Australia for parts. Happy with performance of machine, but service for repairs is very poor.
Keeps on breaking down
We are now about to put the machine back in for repairs, one week after having had it in for repairs (which took 5 weeks). This is now the third time we have had this happen over a 20 month period. (and after having had our first machine (same model) eventually replaced under extended warranty after 3 separate breakdowns.
The issues have been different each time. First times, there was some sort of break in the steam line, then it constantly leaked. This time total loss of pressure in the head.
Love the coffee when it is working well but am n...

Parts
The grey disk inside the group head of my BES920 broke/cracked and I have not been able to get a replacement part. First I contacted the help centre by email and emailed through a photo, they said they couldn't order a replacement part from the photo. Then I called the help centre and they said I would need to give them the specific name of the part or they couldn't order it and weren't willing to help identify the part in case they were wrong so directed me to the authorised repairer. 2 weeks later, after the only repairer on the gold coast fi...
Read morenally came back from Xmas on the 16th Jan, my wife took the part in and was given a replacement. It was the wrong part and didn't fit. I took it back and was challenged by the main person who was completed disinterested that it was the right part and was made to feel like and idiot before he walked off leaving me with his offsider. She was more helpful and identified the differences in the parts, and then ordered me a new part after a week or so. My wife picked it up again and again it was the wrong part. It looked similar and was only slightly off, but it was made from a completely different material and once again, didn't fit. I am now at a loss, I can seem to get any help from Breville and the repairer said I am looking at a new group head because Breville probably don't make the $10 part anymore. I am not someone to write something negative online but I am missing my morning coffees and this has gone on over a month!Find out how Breville Dual Boiler with Smart Grinder BES920 / BCG820 compares to other Appliances

Descale function very clumsy - took me several hours to get the coffee boiler to work, steam boiler
Coffee is great when its all working but we have had several issues, the latest is that the steam doesn't work after we tried to descale as per instruction manual. I was going to leave it, but the descale message was showing up on the display for the past few weeks so i decided to run the descale program. I have spent more than 4hrs trying to reset - let it cool down etc, but it is still not working properly! So at the moment, the steamer has ceased working. Other issues mainly related to the water tap leaking, the group handle breaking and the brew head needing replacement. I am disappointed with my purchase mainly because of reliability issues (all different)

Good coffee, unreliable machine.
Hi i picked up one of these machines just over 3 years ago in that time it has been replaced several times under warranty. on all of the machines the Volumetric pore was inconsistent (this is the button you push to deliver a set amount of coffee, in my case 30ml) I would get results from around 20ml to 50ml or 18 seconds to over 50 seconds on a bad day. if you are prepared to use a shot glass to pore every shot you can get some excellent consistent results. will this coffee machine make great coffee, yes it will. will it make grate coffee in auto, very rarely. Will I get another one, No.

broke. repaired. Happy. sort of.
Great machine. Until we descaled. Then the second boiler blew up even though i carefully followed instructions. Common problem. Repaired under warranty. Only took 1 week. Easy to deal with. No cost. But what happens a year later if it blows up again when I descale and it's not under warranty? Bit unsure.

BES920 Descales?
I purchased a BES920 7 months ago and unfortunately it was missing a lot of the parts it should have come with like the dual wall filters and other bits. It took a few weeks to get them but have now just realised we don't have the tool to undo the steamer. The coffee it makes is great though.
Yesterday I performed a descale on it and, as many others have discovered, the steamer stopped working in the process. I spoke with Myer and explained the situation and even though it has a 24 month warranty repair label on the box, not a 12 month replac...

I have a BSS920 about 3 years old and am having a problem with descaling. Have descaled previously with no problems.
Following the manual instructions I empty the boilers and next step is to begin Descale, press 1 cup button to begin to descale and figures 20 (for seconds) show in screen) and press 1cup button. However nothing appears in the screen and nothing happens.
Anyone have a solution?

I complete a descale on my BES920 and the Descale Message remains on. Has been occuring for last 18 months or so. I descale every 2 to 3 months but no change

Hey Paul, apologies if you've tried this but maybe reset your hardness setting. With machine off, hold down 1 cup button and turn on. reset should appear on display, hit menu to select and then set your hardness.

Machine only heating to 72° then hovers around that temperature, have checked that the setting is still at 93° , tried unplugging for 60 minutes (as says somewhere in manual) .
Obviously can’t make a coffee at this temperature.
Any ideas please?

We got the machine back on Tuesday which was a 5 week turnaround. The pressure is no longer as strong and it can't reach 7 when making 2 coffees at once as it could before. When I picked it up I was...
Read more told it's had a firmware update and presumably a valve has been introduced to allow future descaling and the heat element replaced. My concern is that if i took it to the other repairer who said they wouldn't have returned it to Breville but done it themselves, the outcome would be very different. The element would have been replaced but it would still be vulnerable to any future descales. Am also guessing the firmware update wouldn't have happened either so there'd be no new process for performing a descale, (I received a photocopied page out of another manual on the steps now required to perform the descale) An apology from Breville would be nice as this is a known flaw and other BES920 users will run into the same problem if they try and descale. Being without it over Christmas for 5 weeks and having to use the coffee shop down the road several times a day isn't factored into the loss encountered with a simple 24 month repair warranty.
