Won't Last

How long is an electric jug supposed to last. Not very it seems. This jug looks nice hence two stars and when it works it boils the water. However it doesn't take long before the lid stops staying shut and a little while after that the automatic off switch fails, and now the handle is coming apart. Probably had it about two years. Basically it is a piece of junk.

First & Last Breville Item

Whilst sure it works if you want to make a cuppa but really comes into it's own if you also want to wash your kitchen bench down after every use. Leaking within a month of purchase. Show details

Greville Glass Kettle

The lid continually pops open as the water comes to a boil. We have to watch the kettle and manually shut off the kettle as it will boil dry with the lid open if we don't monitor it! Everything else is great about this kettle, however, is now a safety concern with the lid opening with the steam. I left a voice message for Greville Canada to call me back....still waiting.

Embarrassingly short-lived switches & clips

While it worked, it was great. Design was good, pouring was good, OH&S considerations good. But it only lasted three years. First the lid-opening switch failed. So we filled it with a tiny watering can for a few months. Then the on/off switch failed. Purchase date 26 January 2018. Failure date 31 January 2021.
A family member had a Breville that they inherited - only replaced when the plastic jug itself began to crack; it must have lasted 30 years. A major drop in quality, Mr Breville!! Show details

Safety risk

Boiling water is fine, the problem, as other reviewers have mentioned, the lid intermittently pops open of its own accord and the kettle continues to boil until you manually turn it off or it boils dry. I have walked into the kitchen to find the upper cabinetry literally dripping with condensed steam (ie water). Not good. Then the lid started opening (flicking hot water onto your hand) when we picked the boiled kettle up off the base. I agree with other reviewers, this kettle should have a recall on it. Show details

Lid opens while kettle is boiling

Like many others I too have had it boil dry because the lid will not stay closed when the water comes to a boil... we have had one situation where the kitchen was filled with steam because it boiled dry.. the lid release is of poor design and will fail, potentially scalding the user.

This is a very badly designed product and I find it hard to believe that this is still allowed to be sold, it should be part of a recall. Show details

So far so good. Quite impressed with the speed of the boiler

The kettle heats up quite quick, about 1 min for level 1.7L of water. Quite exxy, bought it for $60. Hopefully this last for 2 years+. Also the boiler isn't too quiet, and can be a bit loud for some people also a bit heavy to carry, it's not very lightweight.

Very disappointed

Not happy at all and have bought a few breville kettles over the years and never had this problem. Bought it late last year and it rusted at the bottom in a week plus get bits floating in water. Contacted House where I bought it online and they took awhile to get back to me with an answer from Breville to descal it. Ru kidding me!!! In a week after I got it. What an absolute joke! Have cleaned it and you can not get rid of rust plus still get bits floating in water and surely it's not good to drink. Not happy at all!!

Works Well

Owned for Six months , Started to get a build up on the element and become noisy

I read the instructions and purchased the Breville Kettle cleaner which brought the

Kettle back to perfect working condition. Very happy with the Kettlles appearance and ease of cleaning

and speed of boil.

Piece of junk

Lid opens upon boiling and sometimes wont stop boiling.

The top of the kettle flexes causing the lid to pop open when lifting up

This in dangerous these should be recalled

I have always trusted Breville products until now, never again

I have contacted ACCC, product safety Australia

Their product testing and design is flawed.

Condensation in the kettle

I bought my kettle from the Good Guys 2 days ago Sat 27/10/18 . Owned one before and loved it. However, the condensation in the new one has started right from the first boil & hasn't disappeared. Not a nice look for a brand new purchase. Any thoughts? Thank you.

Over the past month on an intermittent basis (but getting worse) my lid will either pop open as it's coming to the boil (leaving a potential for it to boil dry) or it will pop open after it's boiled.
I love this kettle, the newer model has so many bad reviews, I'm reluctant to purchase it.

Our kettle is over 2 years old but now the plastic hinge connection has a small fracture on one side, which means the button to raise the lid does not work. I’ve unsuccessfully tried a little superglue on the fracture site.
Should I claim under warranty even though the initial 12 months has long gone?

Give breville a call. They offered me a replacement kettle which was fantastic. Good service
