Not worth the price
Slow to toast. Was content until the left side "Toast" button got stuck & damaged the functionality of the left 2 toasters. Occurred out of warranty. They dont offer parts either. As a consequence, have been using it as a 2 slice toaster for several years. Been through several Breville kettles as well. Will never buy another Breville appliance. Kitchenaid is the best brand for features, quality & therefore longevity; well worth the money.
Slowest toaster, not worth the money
Have had this toaster for over 6 months now and still frustrated enough to come back and review.
Most expensive toaster I have ever bought. I was seduced by its looks, but it is much slower to toast than my old toaster (a cheapie from big w), toast somehow is not as hot (I’m guessing this goes along with the elements taking so long to toast) and toasting is uneven on different sides of the bread. All unacceptable really given the price. I shouldn’t have to microwave a fresh piece of toast to keep it warm enough to eat - but all it has is enough...
Very Poor Product - Stopped working after 12 months.... Unacceptable
Ive got alot of breville products, and sadly this one has ruined the brand for me, its lasted just over 12 months, so out of warranty... one side just stopped working....
Update - Seems Breville might reassess my units warranty cover as I got such short lifespan. I was told the units are on the whole good, but some fail early.... evidently i got a bad one. Hope they replace! This would certainly redeem my thoughts of the brand.
Never worked right and only a few months old and doesn’t work at all.
We toast regular bread slices. We tried all settings. Bread sometimes got stuck. Didn’t toast evenly. Now doesn’t work at all. This is the most money I ever spent on a toaster and the worst toaster I have ever owned.
No good. Looks great but too many issues
Purchased it 18 months ago. It started by flashing and not being able to pop up on its own without switching the power in and off. This happened a number of times. Now only one side toasts and the other goes up and down but doesnt heat/toast at all. Rubbish. Considering how expensive this toaster was $140. I expect more
Worst toaster ever bought.
Purchased first Smart Toast just after Christmas. After several months, stopped toasting. Was replaced and now after a similar time frame, one side doesn't heat up at all and the other, just barely. Our Kmart toaster bought years ago now dragged out of cupboard and works so much quicker.
I purchased this toaster no 19 September, I am sorry to say I expected it to be better than the old toaster but no it toasts unevenly just as the much cheaper one did. I expected better for $169.00
Purchased in September 2019 for A$169.00.
Brand loyalty goes wrong this time
After owning one of these for many years and being totally satisfied with it we bought a new one without hesitation. It is a total disappointment. As others have stated it toasts totally erratically and only on one side generally. It is also so slow it drives us mad. Extremely disillusioned. The old one is almost worn out but works much better.
2nd replacement in 13 months . Rubbish
We bought this toaster from Peter’s of Kensington online in May 2018. In September 2018 we got a replacement because it stopped working. Now in June 2019 one side has entirely stopped roasting. It still works on the other. This piece of *^%# toaster has a working life of about 6 months. Our last toaster lasted 18 years. Breville have lost my business. I’m hoping that this at least breaks down again before the warranty expires after 2 years. Fully expect to request a third or fourth replacement. It’s a great toaster when it works but the po...or quality is beyond unacceptable. If you buy this do it from a local store. Every time we have to post back to the shop and wait for replacement to be shipped we are without toaster for 1.5 weeks. I want to let out a review equivalent of a primal howl to express how frustrating this toaster is. Instead I will urge you not to bother. It’s rubbish.

Typical Breville, Can't Be Fixed
My wife loves Breville, we have owned Breville toasters, electric jugs & espresso machines. However, in my experience when something goes wrong there are no spare parts and you have to replace the whole item.
We owned this toaster for a little over 3 years and the elements on one side have just died. I have an electrical background and could easily fix that so, I attempted to source a replacement part. I contacted Breville who said parts are not available but they would offer me a discount on a new toaster.
I m annoyed about this for a few re...asons. Firstly, this sort of thing has happened to us before. We had the element blow on our Breville electric jug and were told that there were no replacement parts, but we could buy a replacement jug at a discount price. When our $1300 espresso machine died just (outside Breville's 12 months manufacturer warranty) it got replaced (rather than repaired) under our JB HiFi extended warranty. Can't have been an easy fix if they replaced rather than repaired a $1300 appliance. Secondly, I contacted Choice who tell me that at around $190 (you can buy this toaster cheaper now), this was a mid to high range toaster that should last 4 to 6 years. Incidentally, Choice have a good article on product life here: https://bit.ly/2uPZxZV

Not too bad for a Breville
I had reservations at first purchasing an expensive Breville toaster because from previous experiences the Breville brand has let me down with the reliability and longevity of their products. I purchased the frost blue model and I find the smart toaster great. Once set up and adjusted it toasts bread perfectly. I like the A Bit More and the Lift and Look button. It also toast crumpets really well.
There are a couple of shortcomings with this product. The plastic on the crumb trays melted out of shape and the toaster itself collects crumbs a...nd is hard to clean. The flat spot under the bread should be more vertical to encourage the crumbs to fall onto the crumb tray. One thing parents should consider before purchasing this product is the safety of having a press button toaster. If plugged in and left on the buttons on top could easily be bumped or pressed causing the toaster to operate. I had an unfortunate experience with a Tupperware that was left on top of the toaster but it I isolated the power as per the instructions it would have never happened. All in all it’s a great toaster that when set correctly to the type of object you are toasting and looks really good in the the different colours they have available.

Questions & Answers
When you insert the crumpets into toaster and press the crumpet button twice the light blue turns to dark blue, what does this do, i tried it and it didn’t cook the front of my crumpet ??
The 'Crumpet' setting on the toaster directs more heat to the center heating elements, to brown the top of the crumpet & avoid burning the bottom. This is activated by pressing the crumpet button once, crumpet mode indicated by a white light. Pressing the button twice (indicated by a dark blue light around the switch) returns the setting to normal toasting, without the extra heat to the center heating elements. That is why your crumpet top was not browned.
Hope this helps.
Brand new toaster first time used and the lever won’t stay down.
Is it the smart toaster ie the bread is lowered electronically & not spring operated? If its brand new, ask for an exchange or a refund. Dont bother repairing it either way. The Smart toaster doesnt have a lever, hence the question. With mine the toast button got stuck in the 'On' position which eventually damaged the unit. If you can obtain a full refund, do so & purchase the KitchenAid 4 slice toaster. More expensive but far better product.
All lights flashing and toast will not lift
