Dishonest policy, dishonest assessors
BIG MISTAKE, go elsewhere. I’ve been with BudgetDirect ever since I got my new car, which was just under 2 years ago. They have the new for old replacement policy and were cheaper than others and seemed to have positive reviews and rewards, so I went with them.
I got into a car accident (not at fault) and they waived my excess and offered me a 14-day car hire. So far, so good. My car was severely damaged in front and back and the tow guy said it’s definitely a write off when he towed my car away. Anyway, a couple of days later, the car is tow...ed to their assessment centre in Laverton. They have a couple of other assessment centres which would have been closer to where I live but for whatever reasons, they towed it to the centre opposite side of town from me. Then the nightmare begins. I receive a call from the assessor about two days after it is towed to their assessment centre. He says they can repair the car. I ask him how much the repair cost and he was really vague and said around $12,000 at first. I tell him I want to choose my own repairer and get a second opinion on the extent of damage (I selected the option to choose my choice of repairer in my policy). The 2 panel beaters that I called up and showed pictures to all estimated my car as a write off and said it’s expensive to fix, but to get an accurate assessment, I’d need to bring the car in so they can see all the damage. When I told BD, they rejected my choice of repairer and said my car is repairable and they will get a quote themselves. They went to their own panel beater and came back with a second quote of $8k, which is significantly lower than the original quote and refused to use my repairer. I also had an agreed value for the car, which they refused to pay. Stupid me, I should have held my ground on this as I paid for this in my policy, but it’s my first accident and I wasn’t really sure i could do this until later on. Anyway, a few back and forth with the support centre (FYI, their support centre and assessment centres are different. Every time I called the support centre, they told me to call the assessment centre to get the latest update). In the end I repaired the car but sold it privately at a much lower price because the lost value in the accident. Beware of this shady company, their assessors are dishonest and dodgy. Their underwriters are Auto & General and it’s been a very frustrating experience for me to deal with them. They gave me two assessments which varied in cost and refused my choice of repairer even though it’s in my policy and even though I was not at fault in this accident. I’m sure they’re making a profit from all these claims. I sure won’t be insuring with them for my next car that’s for sure. Dishonest people, dishonest policy.
EAsy to set up have been with you since the middle of September in the year 1919 and hope this insurance company is honest as we are looking for a insurance company to insure our home and contents as well

Worst insurance company to deal with
They very nice and polite to give policy. But ones you lounge a claim one of worst company to deal with they give even appointment to look car after 1 month atlist. They after take woke to look car just assume how long they will to fixed car. Forever.
Can some one help for what I need to do with fight with this fake people.

Excellent Insurance product
Highly recommended. Very reasonable rates and excellent repair and customer service. We had an accident recently involving a goat & I was worried that our late model volvo wouldn't be looked after. Nothing to worry about - fabulous service & professional repairs using volvo parts. Thank you budget direct for a 'great value' product.
Fine if nothing goes wrong
Budget Direct made me pay 2x excesses for intentional damage done to the same area of my car, in short succession, by a person who I made a domestic violence witness statement against. Completely impossible to deal with this company as they have no discretion or empathy.
AVOID if under 25
Budget Direct cancelled my policy after a collision where I was not at fault due to my age (24) and ‘business practice’ that stated I bring “more loss than profit”. I was told “it’s not personal, it’s business”. It is cheap for a reason. Spend an extra $30 a month.
Bad experience, made a claim after paying excess they said they won’t fix our car. They have major claim regarding to hail damage. completely ruin our time and definitely will cancel our insurance with them

Worked out that the insurance i got with Budget Direct was literally 50% cheaper then my previous insurer. Just cant beat that. Staff are helpful too. Their website is also a lot better to navigate.
Change of rating due to improved outcome
So the car got side swiped in the car park, the initial contact and organising stuff was quite easy. First issue, budget direct give you no choice of repairer and in our case it was 45 min away so 3 x 45 minute (each way) trips, a big deal with 2 parents working and a young family. There are mixed reviews on their one choice of repairer, Gemini crash in Perth, and although they forgot to fit the 2 new parts they ordered (meaning 4 x 45 minute each way trips) I am happy with the workmanship. The car is a 1 year old commodore with very low Ks and...unmarked until the bingle . When my wife took the car to be assessed they said they'd replace the headlight which was grazed and had red paint on it and replace the silver plastic bit on the bottom of the bumper. They ordered the parts but the person repairing the car apparently didn't think the damage was that bad and wasn't aware the parts were there waiting, make of that what you will. So due to the lack of repairer choice and the fact that I have a cheaper quote from the RAC, I am only giving budget direct 3 stars

Very helpful. Very good price. Friendly person on phone. Efficient service. All questions answered politely. Keen to help. I will be using Budget Direct again and consider changing my other policies to Budget Direct.
Great value for money.
Policy was good value. It offered the same cover as my previous insurer for a fraction of the cost. The price difference was enough to entice me to switch insurers.
Do not get any insurance from budget direct you not covered . They wont pay any damage for your car or others!!!!
Worse insurance company in Australia.
You wont be covered if you dont let them know you had a speeding fine and lost 3 points 3 years ago. Insurance cover rejected and now stuck with $70,000 debit to pay for loan for my car and other party car.

A Robber rather than an insurance company
I have been paying Budget direct for 5 years. A very first claim made last week, it was unbelievable frustrating. Tried to call claim department, for 40 minutes no one answer. Lodged on line, replied the following week. By this week my car is getting fixed by the tried party insurance. Budget direct staff did not care if any one hurt from the accident. But told me increasing my premium as the previous 'loss' (claim made but cancelled). Once I told them to cancel the policy, they charged cancellation fee and the $116 of the premium increase. Tal...ked to the manager but useless. Lucky the first time horrible claim experience made me stop buying Budget direct policy. They increase the premium each year without any claim. When it comes a claim, first thing is to increase the premium. What is the past 5 years, over $6000 insurance fee for? It's to buy a reassurance. When we needed, they should care about the customer. But Budget direct made me feel helpless. Additionally, the car repair company reports Budge direct try to persuade them using second hand parts for their clients. Budget direct is not a valued insurer.
Right price for the right cover saving over $240
Good value however all polices are great until you lodge a claim. Then you find out really how good the policy is. Hoping not to have to find out , hoping it's as good as defined
Only a new arrival, but good so far .......... Hopefully it will do everything they said it would. Very easy to set up. Only problem was confirmation of NCB, but eventually resolved.

I raised the claim next day very easy online, couldn’t get through on the phone previously, not a hope.
Got a text next day, all good car booked in. No emails but details showed up online next day ...so all good. Cars were assessed 2 weeks later, 1 written off and 1 to be repaired at first available opportunity which was in 3 months time. Got no issues with this it is what it is... This was all verbal nothing in writing, “but you will here from us shortly” I wouldn’t mind the coin so I can get another car as well So 1 car was sanitised on the spot, bonus found $10 in change, heaps of pens and the wife’s necklace which she lost a few years ago, I’m in the good books. Handed over the keys for our trashed car ( no paperwork ) and left in a slightly less trashed car. Well I left it for 2 days, nothing, no emails or texts, online was still telling me it’s booked in (yes been there done that). Did the online chat someone will contact you soon. A few more days nothing, rang using two mobiles consecutively, bonus only took 32 mins and 10 secs. I think the other mobile is still on hold.
Just joined and saved lots of money
I only just switched to Budget Direct, so I can't comment on claims or anything like that. I can just say the set up process was reasonably easy and it was certainly much cheaper than who I was with before.
Yes it was easy to set up and a very good value.
