Would not pay legitimate claim
Had legitimate claim denied as they took too long to assess and then claimed it was not real
Do anything to stop you actually claiming without them paying on real legitimate claim

After discovering water damage to our kitchen cabinets it was very disappointing to learn that our insurance policy doesnt cover it. Another insurance policy full of loop holes and exclusions. A shear waste of our money. Perhaps Budget Direct should stop sending out free pizza vouchers and start covering for real life situations.
Terrible Customer Service: Pay money ontime for insurance but never put a claim if you have any problem.
I went with this insurance company by seeing their adverts saying they are the cheapest and best insurance. But so far my experience with this company is terrible. The policy seems to be reasonably priced but customer service is terrible when you have claim.
My Alfresco Ceiling fell down when it was raining heavily with strong winds, i also got the camera footage of exactly what happened. But for insurance people this is wear and tear. They find all the ways to make sure they decline the claim. No one would like to see your photos and camera ...footage before accessing the claim. They will send a builder to access the property, he comes after 3 days of the incident and doesn't even bother to see inside the ceiling to see how damage happened. They just see from outside and draft the report. Water leak can be easily seen from the roof during the incident but this was also been declined saying that we don't cover these incidents. They say its your choice to weather be with them or going with some one. The inspector (builder) who came for inspection suggested me to never go with the budget direct as they are cheaper insurance and hard to accept any claims. They were suggesting to go with AAMI. Getting reports from builder without seeing the evidence is not a right thing to do. Builder will come after 2-3 days of the incident, but the camera footate will tell exactly what happend. They wasted my time for nearly 4 weeks before saying no to my claim. I haven't claimed anything sofar with any insurance companies. i am with budget direct for a while and not really happy with their customer service. The friendlyness that they have while taking the policy can't be seen when you are dealing with the claim.
They exclude anything you would realistically want to be covered for
Don't fall for their low price, when something happens you'll end up having to go fix it out of your own pocket as their PDS conveniently excludes pretty much anything worth covering. Absolute joke. Had to chase nearly daily for 3 weeks for them to finally give me their assessors report. The report had price gouging in it to bring it over the excess, and actually excluded the main point of concern due to their PDS.
Great company until you need to claim
the story is that I had a storm claim on my house Insurance The immediate response by their builder was it was a maintenance issue , the house was in excellent condition and I had paid for maintenance previously.
Nevertheless they refused to pay a $4000 claim even though I had paid more in premiums than the claim over a couple of years.
I should have not bothered and saved myself $4K

Have been with them for 2 years for landlords insurance. Had a recent kitchen fire in the house and when I went to claim I was told that because I had a few claims previously on my own home (that is not insured with Budget direct) and I did not mention it in the proposal they have rejected my claim entirely. I felt I was insured but it seems now that I was not. Don"t be fooled by their cheaper rates. Not worth it if you find you are not covered. You get what you pay for.
They seem to be based on the fact that you have no previous claim history
BEWARE I have now gone to my trusted insurance company (paid a little more) and now have peace of mind. Make sure you ask thorough questions before you consider them
Refused to Honour Policy
We had hail damage to our insured home, they refused to payout and cancelled our policy not to be trusted. They maybe cheap but just hope you never have to claim for anything... Extremely UN-Australian do not go near them
Terrible, rip off insurance company that won't pay a cent for legitimate claims
How this company has any positive reviews is beyond me - these are clearly paid advertisements and all fake advertising.
The only thing this company offers is cheaper insurance for people WHO NEVER EVER NEED TO MAKE A CLAIM.
They are not supportive, terrible customer service, won't pay out for legitimate claims, and want you to pay out the end for excess only for them to find ways out of it - I never will recommend, nor ever insure through this company again.
They are not worth the risk of paying 'cheaper' insurance, but then in the event...where you actually want to claim for what you have rightfully paid for, they screw you over! I was encouraged to lodge a claim when I rang about storm damage and I discussed some cracked tiles in my kitchen. I was told over this phone this was a legitiamte claim and I should lodge it. So, I did that. I reviewed my policy a month prior and updated it for extra cover and lowered my excess (no fake intentions like the customer service officer claims). I was honest, and was stung. Could have lied, make up fake dates, but I was honest and was PUNISHED FOR UPPING MY INSURANCE WITH THEM! I PAID MORE, TO BE TOLD IT DOES NOT APPLY.
Do Not Insure with Auto & General as Underwriters
I purchased a home and contents policy through Budget Direct over the phone. When asked if I had made any claims over the past 5 years I answered "no". Unfortunately I had to make a claim on my own home policy due to some storm damage. After making the claim I was told I had 2 "undisclosed" claims. It turned out that these were on each of my investment properties which are insured through a totally different insurance company. I was never asked about any Investment property claims nor have I ever had to disclose insurance claims that had nothing to do with what I was specifically insuring. Now I am being asked to pay nearly double the premium (later reduced after talking to a manager). I can't help but feel that this is a form of extortion.
Absolutely do not recommend going through Budget Direct!!! Will be contacting Ombudsman about their Handling of claim
Did absolutely everything in their power to get out of approving our claim and in the 5 months they took to tell us our $5k worth of damage increased to $10K

They are more than happy to take your money and provide a discount to suck you in, But when its time to pay on a claim, Good Luck.
We where even told by Budget Direct after making a claim, they should never had insured us in the first place and offered to pay back a tiny portion of the money that had been given to them over the Years.
During our claim process i was told by Budget Direct that it is up to us to pay for an engineer every few years to check over the house to make sure everything is structurally fine. I Asked him when was the last...
Big problem with Home/Contents insurance- don't pay out for repair services at all
We have a home and contents insurance with Budget direct -with an excess of $500, when a pipe broke in our bathroom- the payout was only $1000. We had our own plumber provide a report which Budget didn't believe, they sent out their own plumber to make an assessment and then called us up to ask us the meaning of "exploratory work" on the original plumbers bill ( which was the investigation ie making wholes in our floor that he did to try and find the leak!!!). We are really angry that they are stone walling and denying payment for a measly 1...G when my husband and I pay thousands a year for combined car and house insurance for several years. Awful service. We should have cancelled policy and got a refund rather than go through this bad service. We certainly will be cancelling all our policy's with Budget. So short sighted. 11/6/2020
Budget Direct Are Criminals - They Will Never Pay You A Claim
Budget Direct is very happy to take your money... they're also very happy to put any excuse not to pay your claim. Stay away from this company. Insurance companies are not your friends. Budget Direct is probably one of the worst!
I have House and Content Insurance .with Budget Direct.. The reason I went with them was because they were cheaper than. my last insurer ..However its the Big mistake.. I ever made..
I tried to make a claim on my Solar Power Inverter ,,which packed up ..and cost $1500 .to replace.
I was told by they Claim Team I cant claim because the Inverter is to old .. where does my new for old Content .insurance come into operation? I am so frighten now that if my property should burn down what will I be allow to claim...

House burnt down they won’t pay a cent
Our home burnt down in December. We lost everything. They rejected our claim. We engaged lawyers and have spent $20k fighting this so far.
They refuse to pay out our policy.
They are scumbags.
