We had a burst pipe and had to make a claim as we needed a completely new laundry. The customer service was simply excellent! They called me every 2 weeks to give me updates on the progress. Then they continued to call me every 2 weeks while the works were getting done to see if we were happy with everything. There was no push back re approving the claim. They were more then happy to follow up and help with everything. Budget prices but not budget service :)
Impressed at the beginning, only.
To start off, budget direct offers an irresistible starter premium on my home and contents insurance. But that's where it ends if you have one relatively cheap claim. Prior to Christmas 2020, we had an attempted break in. We risked our lives by yelling at the would be intruders, 4 of them and the fled. Despite that they managed to damage a side gate lock and two big pieces of glass. We put in a claim and paid our excess before any of the claim process was progressed. The customer representative was nevertheless helpful, courteous and empathise ...with our inconveniences, especially when Christmas was near and through no faults of ours. While the claim process was smooth ,the length of time it took to fix a few broken glasses and a side gate lock simply took too long. The whole process of fixing was only completed in February 2021. Whether this is budget direct or their authorised contractor it is simply too long. Then next comes the renewal document. Premium increased by 50% plus just because one simple claim. Premiums are only known to go in one direction and if we continue with the renewal, the premium will eventually reach the moon. We called the customer representative and voiced our concerns and in the end, $6 discount was all they could offer. We have since obtained quotes from other insurers and despite declaring the claim, the premium was way lower. In this instance, it is only sensible that we be going with another insurer.
Amazing, friendly, and professional service
I have been with budget for almost 2 years, for both car and home insurance. Every time I need to call the staff are always friendly and happy to help.
Insurance tried to push my family to live in a health hazard house
My house was on fire in June, and the insurance has got a builder to do the repairs for me , it is taking almost 25 weeks and there are still some items that needs to be done. However they are trying hard to push me and my family back to the home while there are clearly health hazard problems in the house.
1. The fire soots was all over the house. it sucks in my ducted aircon and what they did was replaced 2 ducts and a grill. I was showing them that there are soots in the other ducts and the condenser but they do not want to fix it. they said..., they will replace another duct from another room and there is nothing wrong with the condenser . I was showing them, there is still smoke smell coming out from the ducts and they don't want to listen but try to push me and my family to get back to the house even thought I was saying that this is a serious health issues, because the small particle from the smoke burn will get into the lungs and cause asthma or even cancer over the time. I said, my brother is having asthma and he is moving in with us. Surprisingly my case officer said my brother was not living with me before the fire and they have nothing to do with him if he move in ?? How funny!? this is my house , I am allowed to get anybody to live with me regardless of before the incident or after the incident. The insurance job is to bring back my house to the pre-incident condition. This fire burn smoke is effecting anybody, not just the people already has sickness.
Wait until you claim.
After 40 years, first time we had to claim contents insurance. Not our fault we lost everything. We have receipts that they refused to look at. Giving us products that were half the price of our 6 year old appliances. Telling us we should be grateful as they have more features. And they replace like for like on features not on price. We even offered to pay the difference in price but they would not budge saying their computer picks something for us when they put in our product and we take it or leave it. I have spoken to so many friends and if ...they had to claim they always got something according to the financial value. They said appliance inflation goes down. What a joke. A top appliance 5/6 years ago with the latest features then would be ofcourse cheaper now with same features. But they insure you for the full value not via their inflation (yes they called it inflation daily for over a week) calculators. We are still waiting on who will fix our electrical. No word on that yet as their own technicians have put a costing to them which they say it too expensive so they told them to review again. It's been 2 weeks. Go with anyone else. Save yourself time and money later on. They would not let us even talk to a manager.
Two claims made on separate properties
After an unfortunate experience with a negligent property manager both of my rental properties were badly damaged. Budget direct handled the claim process so well. I am a customer for life now. Hopefully never to make another claim.

This is the worst home insurance ever!!!
The worst insurance company ever! I’m so regret to choose it for my home insurance. After a heavy rain my husband noticed roof leaking in our bathroom we call Budget Direct to make a claim. We paid $500 excess fee to lock in a claim so They sent someone to check. Then they said the leaking was from a hail storm back in February so we have to lock in another claim for the hail storm. It means we have to pay another $500. And now after 4 months 3 people come to check and still not go anywhere. Every time when it’s rain, the roof keeps leaking and getting bigger. We call many times but no answer is given. I’m so DISAPPOINTED and highly NOT recommend Budget Direct!!!
Surprised and delighted
Changed to Budget two years ago after decades with a ‘ major’ insurer. Never ever having a claim. Budget was significantly cheaper. Always a worry. BUT, needed to make a claim after water damage from an upstairs accident. Budget was great. ( ok, that’s what you pay for) Everything went quickly and fairly with friendly staff answering enquires efficiently. Not only was the claim paid quickly but they chased down and repaid my excess. I was surprised and heartened. Happy to give Budget top rating because I think they would give the same service to others.

50% increase on Home Insurance
I moved to Budget Direct some years ago to secure a competitive premium.
Last year, we made a claim on a damaged engagement ring which was repaired under our insurance.
I have just found out now, 6 months into my annual agreement, that Budget direct have increased our premiums by exactly 50%.
Similar to others I see, they explain this as due to natural disasters, local factors etc. However in exploring this more closely, I have been told that indeed it is due to my claim, I quote: "..and recovery of the claim".
I strongly recommend not going with Budget Direct, and if you do, and make a claim, expect a hefty increase on renewal.
Having horrible time with Budget direct claim!!!!
I have my car insurance with them from last 5 years and home and content insurance from last 4 years but never put any claim but last month first time have to put a claim for escape of liquid due to tap leak, The sub contractor they have provided me is giving me horrible time, Its been more than a month except been drying process nothing has been done yet. Every time I call the sub contractor JP Flynn they have different excuses. My two bedrooms and hallways got flooded due to tap leak but the sub contactor saying they will only fix hallways an...d I have to fix the bed rooms by myself because budget direct have refused to pay for it. I am trying to call them since Thursday did not get any response from them at all. One of the call centre guy told me home claim team will contact me but since than no one contacted me. Suggestion for everyone please stay away from this bogus company.....

The person I spoke to about my claim was understanding and polite. They told me about the process and what I would need to do in a clear and easy to understand way.
1.3 years ago house was robbed and Budget Direct makes every excuse to elongate settlement
Budget Direct are the worst when it comes to making claims. They've made very excuse under the sun to ensure the settlement process is elongated as much as possible to avoid paying their customers in a timely manner. This is their business model.
12 months on and they've still not settled even though they ensure that they will.
They defintely don't take ownership and follow up, they know customers have busy lives and they prey on this.
This review is on behalf on my distraught and upset friend.
Slow, bureacratic, unhelpful, led to more damage to the house
Easy to set up and purchase, hard to actually get a claim processed. A thoroughly miserable process. Claims were really slow to process, they still haven't fixed the cause of the problem and whilst waiting to get the problem assessed more bad weather has led to more damage which was completely avoidable.
