Could’ve been 100%!!
Purchased this new in April. It was an odd transaction, with us having been sold an electric ride-on we’d chosen to fulfill our environmental aspirations … which sadly was completely inappropriate for the rural setting we live in. Note to readers, electric is good tech, but not yet mature enough for big, rough jobs. Anyway after involvement from Bushranger’s state office, a different dealer was appointed to take the electric as a trade for the Spartan. And we’ll just leave that side of it right there.
We have 13 acres. Roughly 1.5 is fenced as...
Read more a house paddock with most of that grassed, and perhaps 9 acres of exterior paddock managed by a tractor and 5’ slasher. We had plenty of time for familiarisation before grass growing season, with small forays into patches, with 13 year old son eagerly counting down the days to rainfall! So, after 8 months of ownership, and a few weeks of peak growing time, here’s our impressions of the Spartan RZ54, which itself is a an American machine apparently taken under the Bushranger wing for Aussie distribution. The 54 bit refers to width of cut, in inches. It’s only 6 inches less than the slasher … so a little plan/challenge is already fomenting!! The machine is commercial grade, and looks it. What I loved at first glance is the inherent robustness of the build, and the ridiculously easy access there is to all things mechanical. Whoever designed this thing has swung some spanners in their lifetime! Lots of airspace to get in there, and the seat swings easily upwards to give you even more! The only departure here is that the oil drain hose is just a mite too short, meaning oil is gonna get on the deck when you drain it … and it shouldn’t have to. When I check online, the US versions have a slightly longer drain hose, so perhaps ours must have missed out. Easy to fix … by the dealer … I should think! Switch gear located on the right, well thought out, controlled by electronic touchpad. No key, you set a code of up to 12 numbers, however the digits available are only 1-4 … so your code can only have combinations of those digits in it. A selectable clock, hour/mowing time elapsed, job timer, and countdown to maintenance (user resettable); tachometer/voltmeter, and a maintenance/error code checker. A few of the more common possible faults will be displayed by a red light if encountered. Also a wired in switch for a LED headlight, With a corresponding blank cut into the front bumper ... however the unit comes without the light fitting. The dealer offered to “throw on a LED aftermarket normally valued around $60” as a deal sweetener. Then promptly gave us a bill for a hundred bucks after he put it on. This just seems a little “wrong” … so we’re gonna sit on this for a while!Purchased in April 2020.
