Far North Queensland Trip
We recently came off a catamaran sailing the Whitsundays and decided to do a drive from Airlie Beach to The Daintree. We had to pick the van up when the office was closed but everything went to plan. Camperman Aus. made it so easy. The van was bit tired but did the trip well. The bed was comfy and the van was good with fuel, being small we fitted into all the cool campspots ,too easy... We recommend hiring the table and chairs instead of eating in the van. We got cold a few nights and the sleeping bags provided were too thin, also the pillows were shocking we just went to Big W and bought what we needed.
We would definitely use this company again. Thankyou Camperman we had a great holiday.
Service and set up were really good with good instruction on equipment.
Linen and cooking gear packed in sealed bags and all clean .
Really good experience and was good for what we wanted.
Good value van
We hired the van for 1w for a 1000km trip; the van did everything we needed; tidy little kitchen, comfortable bed. Drove well. Felt a bit tired the van so only 4 stars
Great way to see Australia at your own pace
I really liked the ready access to Customer Service who could promptly and accurately answer any questions I had. The bond was reasonable and in keeping with competitors, and the refund was speedy with only a quick check to ensure there was no major damage caused to the vehicle. Pick up was in Sydney as arranged and dropped off at Brisbane depot after a leisurely trip up the coastal road, with side trips to prominent tourist destinations. The Toyota H-iace vehicle was clean and tidy, and mechanically very sound. All the inventory was neatly sto...red along with bedding and accessories. We overnighted in motels and used the van to relax in during meals and daytime stopovers. Thanks Camperman staff for making this a hassle free experience. A pleasure to deal with.
When I went to pick up my van from the Cairns depot the girls were very helpful and showed me everything I needed to know about my camperman before I drove away.
The van was clean and very well presented & in good working order.
We used this to travel down the east coast since we couldn’t travel overseas for COVID.
I would highly recommend this company if you wanted a laid back, cruisey holiday to see Australia.
Great value for money!
Great van and rates!
We had an amazing time exploring the whole south coast of NSW in the van we hired from Camperman!
I would suggest adding a blind spot mirror to the right hand side of the vehicle due to it being a little hard to see other cars when changing lanes. Aside from that, amazing experience and trip! Customer service was awesome, too.
Fantastic experience. Great customer service
The van was well equppied and very clean when we picked it up. The tutorial was very thorough and the whole checkin/checkout experience was seamless and efficient. One thing to watch for though, if you are using the tent, check it prior to leaving the depot as ours was very damaged and we were unable to use it, but this did not spoil our experience at all.
Easy, convenient and cheap way to travel
Good deal through imovaa, friendly and helpful staff at Camperman.
The vehicle had an almost flat battery, ran dry during our test drive. We had to wait for several hours for mechanics.
Everything else went smooth and nice after that.
Economy Jade 3 van- look to a different provider
The long and short of my experience was an overwhelming sense that the van I was driving shouldn’t be on the roads, and Camperman is well aware of the safety and general low quality issues. Rotors felt like the tires were going to come spinning off when braking, electrical tape covering the check engine light, drawer lock buttons not functioning or missing, privacy curtains missing hooks and falling into view while driving, refrigerator popping open during transit, bedding/linens likely 10 years old, spare tire used as a primary tire, and the c...ontinued sense the van was going to break down at every turn. I was offered $81 USD to not write an accurate online review and sign a contract stating I would not negatively publish my experience (now guessing there may be a lack of reviews due to this payoff/ contract). In my brief trip I saw many other rental van companies with much nicer vehicles parked all around me. Perhaps I got unlucky with a one-off crappy van but in reading the previous reviews, they might consider updating the fleet and putting more into maintenance. Before I forget to say- Australia was absolutely beautiful with fantastic folks and I look forward to traveling there again, although with a different set of wheels.
Very good experience !
Our campervan was really a good choice. Although the car was 9 years old and 500.000 km, all the equipment was near perfect and clean. This campervan allowed us to stop in different towns and villages along our trip from Melbourne till Byron Bay and in some cases we had lunch near a river or a wonderful places where we could enjoy Australias nature.
May be mentioned that for the night a good blanket would be useful.
All you need.
Customer service was good. All the payments and bonds handled well. Received the vehicle that we expected. Did a road trip from Airlie Beach to Port Douglas and back, handled the trip well.
Everything we needed on board.
Quick to respond with quotes for various models we looked at.
We actually got a better model than we had asked for so that was great.
We were on a short holiday so a compact model was fine. Would get a larger one for a longer trip.
6 days/2 people/North Qld in September. We went up the mountain to Wallaman Falls and the camper handled it well.
Value for money !
We made a one way trip from Airlie Beach to Cairns
Camping mostly unpowered sites, that was no problem for the battery.
The van was clean and in good condition.
The terms and conditions were very well explained by the staff.
Returning the van went easy and swift.
For us it was a great way to visit the north-east of Queensland.
Disappointed with the conditions of the van
We were very excited about hiring the Campervan and our trip. However, we got disappointed just in the first seconds we saw the van "Juliette" that was waiting for us. It was an old, dirty van with more than 550000km and 10 years old. This fact put me down as we had planned a trip for 50 days and had my doubts that this van was going to be reliable.
After picking up the van, we went home to give a quick wipe and get a nice fresh air. My surprise was when I opened the cupboards under the sofa to find soil and dirt in each compartment. Even beh...ind the the front seats, we found old receipts and a bonnet from previous travellers. Despite the cleaning rules and conditions, I can tell you that our van did not have a cleaning inspection. Not hygienic!! Three days after starting our trip, my partner was laying on the bed when he realised that the screws that hold the straps of the top bed were missing. At the top bed there are some straps that hold the woods and the bedding for the top bed. The fact that only two screws were holding the whole lot could have caused a serious accident, in the event of a hard break while driving. So, my partner tried to fix it by adding one of the screws from the straps holding under the top bed. What is more, the cupboards under the sofa kept sliding open, while we were driving. In every city where there was a Campeman Depot, we took the van for inspection and despite telling them that the cupboards opened while driving and that some screws at the top bed were missing, they said that it was ok and that’s the best they could fix it. The cupboards kept opening while driving, specially on the curves, and we continued our travels with just 3 out of 5 screws at the top bed. Very unsafe!! During our travels, one of our wheels went flat. The mechanic decided to use the spare wheel, which had ONLY 24 kPa pressure. Unbelievable!!!! We hired the van with full trust that the whole van had been inspected and serviced, but actually Camperman doesn’t care about the safety of people who hire their vans. We were lucky to get the tyre flat in the city, but it could have been in the outback, in the middle of nowhere with a 24kPa tyre pressure on the spare wheel. Very careless!! On the day we returned the van, the lady at the office told us that they don’t service the van. Actually, that evening the van was going straight to Melbourne and none was going to service it after we had done more than 8000km. Very unsafe!! Camperman should make sure that all vans are checked before starting a new journey both mechanically and the interior of the van. People like us hire the vans with full trust that the vehicles are ready to start new journey safely. By the looks of it, Camperman is just using and abusing the vans for the sake of making a huge benefit at the cost of people’s lives and experience. Hold the business, but do a good job! Make sure the vehicles are serviced 100% and the equipment is in good conditions.
Poor attention to detail
Overall not too bad but could have been a lot better. Upon arrival at the depot in Adelaide the campervan (Paradise toilet/shower) was ready to go. We were given hardly any guidance on how anything worked including but not limited to emptying the toilet, changing the gas, how to set up table and bed, how to fill the water tank etc. In fact the only thing we were shown was how to check the oil. When we were shown around it the first thing the lady said was 'I'll show you the faults first", and that was 75% of what were shown.
When we booked the...camper there was an optional extra of a fan heater but when we arrived we were informed they do not have any. It was -3 on the first night and incredibly cold inside the van. The above encounter was made 10x worse by the fact that when we opened our sleeping bags 1 was ripped down the side and the other had a broken zip resulting in us buying new ones. I informed Camperman and to their credit they offered to cover the costs but come on were they really not checked, and no one noticed. Despite being repeatedly told to return it with an emptied toilet the same courtesy was not returned to us. There was an incredibly strong smell of urine despite it never being used at that point by us. We had to buy air freshener just to bare sitting in it. The inside door handle on the sliding door was broken off, meaning my girlfriend could not reach the other handle resulting in me having to open the door every time she had to get out. The back door also did not open making it awkward when trying to store items. These two issues were brought to our attention upon pickup; problems but no solutions. We didn't pay $2000 for a van with known faults we paid for one in good working order.
Questions & Answers
How old are your campervans in average and with how many milage (paradise shower/ toilet)?
The vehicles are old with very high mileage. According to their advertising the vans are 2006-2012 so don't expect a new and modern van because you won't get one!
