Hopeless, 4 days to forward an email enquiry!
I made an email enquiry asking for some further information on a car they had advertised, after not getting a reply for 4 days I rang the seller to find out the car had been sold, an hour later I get an email from carsales confirming my enquiry had been sent, a full 4 days after making it, carsales response? Sorry, sometimes technology fail us, coming from a business which is built entirely around technology? Appalling, seriously, use gumtree or facebook, they're free!

Terrible Customer Service for the Dealer Platform
Does not reply to queries, despite numerous follow ups. Will continue to send invoice reminders when they have misallocated payments. The level of customer service received from their dealer accounts team is abhorrent to say the least. I would not recommend them to anyone and its no wonder dealers are switching over to other platforms.

Not happy! Paid fortune for ad got more interest from facebook posts.
Listed premium ad $150+ the only contacts we got were from carsales themselves offering extremely low offers.
By comparison we posted the same thing on facebook for free and have had dozens of messages.
Complete rip-off carsales definitely doesn't have any reach to get buyers.

Listed two cars on Carsales but both got sold via Marketplace
Honestly I do regret listing my car and wasting that amount of money. I listed same cars on Marketplace and ended up selling both there. I do recommend Marketplace as first option.
Expensive, scams and more!
Way too expensive, not one enquiry after 2 weeks. Sold on Facebook marketplace in 3days with zero cost. I would expect carsales to continue to loose business, I will not be using again, other than the ridiculous price to list my car, I received so much more spam and dodgy scams . Lift your game

Questionable Website
Placed my car for sale on Carsales which cost me $69 and within 5 days apparently had over 1100 views but not one message or email from interested party which really concerned me!
As a result I placed the same ad on another popular social media selling site and within two hours had eight people contact me and the car was sold within four hours of placing the ad on that site!!
I truly question the integrity of Carsales and would not recommend them at all!!

Beware scammers will waste your time
Ended up selling to a wholesale buyer.
I chose carsales due to reputation. I found it to be a waste of money. In the space of one week l had 5 calls scamming me or trying too.
One serious scam l felt the need to report to car sales scamming email as the scammer had presented an id of what looked like a real person only to hear nothing from carsales.
I spent 180 dollars on an advert that was really worthless. if l really wanted to sell to a wholesaler l would have traded the car in.
The reality is if you want to waste your time with fake calls advertise on car sales. If you have all the time in the world to sell, Maybe you will find a buyer.
In my case I found carsales.com.au to be a waste of time and money.

Waste of Money
This is the second time we have used carsales to sell a vehicle - and both times we have had zero success in selling as a result of the ads. Much better success selling on another platform for free. And I think it rather slack of a company to promise something and then not deliver - why even mention that you will send out a ‘buy my car’ sticker and special offer if you have no intention of doing so? The sticker is an outdated method of advertising anyway - but I thought it would be interesting to see if anything turned up in the post. And I am not surprised it didn’t - disappointed, but not surprised. So that’s a waste of my $68. Try selling for free on another platform first and save your hard earned money.

Beware False advertisements on this website
Beware! They allow false advertisements. I have brought to their attention that the vehicle I wish to sell is no longer in production and thus no 2020 Built. But they have 294 vehicles of 2020 year model and their excuse is that these dealers can list them as 2020 so that "potential buyers...can source/order or have stock". There are no 2020 models you can order from manufacturer as they've stopped production long ago. I'm told that all vehicles must be listed by the Build/Built year, yet these dealers can list them as 2020 when there are no 2...
Read more020 Built. Carsales response is they'll pass it to different department for review and for me to go to each of the 294 false advertisements and lodge 'Report ad'! Not being aware is not an excuse, as they charge a lot of money for people to list their vehicles. But being aware and not doing anything about it is illegal. And telling me to go to each and every 294 advertisements to do their job is just irresponsible and unethical!1 comment

Hi Joy,
Thank you for your feedback....
Read more Just to clarify, a 2018-built vehicle must be listed as the year it was built, not the compliance year. This is a standard across the carsales website for both private sellers and dealers. We welcome you to report any advertisement you see where this is not the case, as this does not comply with our standards and needs to be rectified by the seller. Additionally, the model you have mentioned was discontinued in May 2020, which means dealers will indeed have some 2020 built stock available. I will have one of our support agents contact you to address your concerns in more depth. -JamesFind out how Carsales.com.au compares to other Online Vehicle Sales Sites

If you are a private seller, It is wasting money to put your car in Carsales app. Because their offered price is much more than the market price and there are no buyers for that range of price. Even I decreased my selling price to great value in Carsales term. Also, It is not good support for your Ad from Carsales team. I do recommend using gumtree or Facebook which is more reliable, much better buyer attention to your Ad; and also free.

Low Quality Ads
Reported multiple ads by private sellers who do not respond or describe their cars inaccurately but no action was taken by Carsales. It is such a waste of time and effort for serious buyers to drive about to find disappointment. Guess it's a tactic to push buyers to dealership since that's where the meat's at.

No follow up on disreputable dealer
We tried to buy a car through carsales with Valley Cars at Kurri Kurri. They scammed us out of a $1000 deposit which we are having to go through Fair Trading to get Back. On investigation the dealer was operating on Carsales with an expired licence. Carsales have ignored all emails and say they have no customer service for buyers. Disgraceful. Beware Carsales is not looking after you the buyer.

How do a message a seller that has place a car on hold ?
2 answers
Well as for me , you either ask him/her to message you back if that person did not fulfill/buy that car ! Its up to the seller anyway !
carsales c.Carsales.com.au
Hi Milica and Evangeline, if a seller has put their ad on hold, it could be for a variety of reasons. You will only be able to contact them if you've previously messaged them (before the ad was put on hold) or obtained their phone number when the ad was live. If you're interested in the car, we'd suggest keeping the ad saved as you'll get an alert if it's taken off hold and advertised again. It's possible the car has been sold and the seller has stopped the ad for the moment while they ensure the sale if final. -Alex
