Most frustrating time of my life
My experience building with Celebrations has been very frustrating and has left me feeling that I was only a number with the suppliers/contractors being the clients not me. Our sales rep gave us the impression that Celebrations would go above and beyond but in my opinion they put their suppliers/contractors needs/wants before ours. Their paperwork/documentation gets very confusing and you keep getting pushed to make a snap decision. Their lines of communication are very slow with some responses taking over 1 week to reply. I thought the perform...ance and general building knowledge of the supervisor was below par and that he accepted the minimum standard from his tradesmen. So starting from the beginning. It took 6 months to break ground after signing with Celebrations to which my wife had to follow up with the council for building approvals as advised by Celebrations (thought that should be Celebrations task). Once the construction started we notice there were differences from our plans to what was being built. During a site meeting with Celebrations it was found that the plans had been changed without our knowledge or approval. At that time and after a lengthy discussion we were advised that we had to accept the proposed changes and the new plans. At this point we decided to engage an independent building inspector as we started to loose confidence that things would be done correctly. As it turned out it was the best decision we made as the inspector found numerous defects during the build. Other issues during build: -Walls erected in the wrong place -Door frames installed wrong way around (doors opened in wrong direction) -Sliding door frame damaged then repaired, After 3 months of asking frame was eventually changed -Odd color bricks used in Alfresco (I will be rendering in the near future as it is an eyesore) -Wardrobe shelf mounted outside of wardrobe (took another two attempts to get it right)
Disappointed with our first home
Construction on our house started early 2012, however at a guess, I'd say that 65% of the walls in our house have severe cracking in them, not just cornices, but actual brickwork. CH have been out twice to repair the same crack in our theatre room, which was so large a $2 coin could fit in some parts, and it's cracking again. We have tiles cracking in our kitchen, both bathrooms and ensuite shower. Our counter top and tiles in our kitchen have separated by over 5 mm, and it's getting worse. We thought we'd wait for a bit for everything to settl...e before completing the painting in our house, and it's getting gradually worse. We are in the process of consulting with a structural engineer to determine what the actual problem is, it's that bad. Do not build with these guys, there are better builders on the market for the same price. DYOR.
Ruined Building Our First Home
The only good thing about Celebration Homes was the sales man he took so much time and showed us houses that were getting built so we could see what they would look like in real life rather than just looking at the plan from there all Celebrations have done is lie! All through the build we had different stories from our prestart consultant and our site Superviser, our pregnant over inspection got pushed out 2 times for these excuse because the chippy hurt his back which we were first told he had hurt his back when our house first got locked up ...so for 8 weeks they didn't get a new chippy they just kept dragging it out with the same story! When we got to inspection the front of our house still wasn't painted and they have just the excuse of the painter forgot. We upgraded all of our plug covers to a silver at prestart some are silver and some are white something we have been asking celebrations about for months with no explation! Now we have came to find our bench in our laundry is to low and can't fix a washing machine in but do Celebrations care NO! We have had our site supervisor out here and he admitted it was to low we have had the cabinet makers out here and they have admitted its to low and it happens more often than you think with washing machines, dishwashers and fridges and now today we have had a call from the area manager to tell us there is nothing they can do to fix it, it's our fault because we requested it and they normal don't do it and was not even apologietic about it! We asked to speak to the general manager and was told no I'm as high as you can go! We feel like we are just another number and aslong as they have been paid they don't care! Building our first home was fun and now it's just a nightmare ! Look at a different builder as celebrations is not a good choice
Did Not Enjoy Our Build.
Can only describe our experience with Celebration as a tale of two halves. On one hand, they have built a good quality home using good trades and a finished product that is hard to fault on quality. On the other hand though was dealing with them and that is a whole other story. They get 5 stars for construction quality, and -3 stars for attitude.
Celebration don't allow you to have contact with your site manager during the build, meaning that all communication has to be run through the office via a Construction Coordinator. This would ...possibly be okay, except that they barely ever answer the phone, meaning you have to leave messages and wait for them to get back to you. In our build, our Construction Coordinator left the company early in the construction period, and it was clear from day one that there had not been a proper handover, nor had the person that took over studied the history of our file. What this meant is that there was a lack of continuity for us as customers, but also that Celebration now had a perfect excuse for having missed several things during our Prestart Meeting. They could either: a) blame the old construction coordinator for not noting it down, or b) blame us (their customers) for signing the plans. They have a no variations during construction policy which they doggedly refuse to budge on regardless of the situation, and with no care or concern about the end product meeting your expectations. Essentially there is no good will, just you, them and a contract separating you. If you are looking for a collaborative, 2 way building experience then my advice is to look elsewhere. There were several examples we could use, but one that really upset us was a powerpoint that we asked to be put in a specific place on a wall (to allow for cabinetry) and the electricians put it 500mm to the right. We noticed this on the day the walls were chased, but by the time our construction coordinator got back to us the electricians had wired up and left the site. We were told this couldn't be rectified as it was a in construction variation (despite the fact that we asked for it at prestart). I kicked up a stink and asked to speak to a manager, and was called by the administration manager who was outright rude to me, but begrudgingly agreed to move the power point. Okay, I thought at least they are doing it but then we get sent a $450 variation bill to move a powerpoint by 500mm and put it where we asked for it to be in the first place. If that's not treating your customer with contempt then I don't know what is.

Years of patch up repair work revealing the extent of the terrible job that was done whilst building
We built what should have been our first dream, family home in 2006. Since then we have had to have constant repairs done to the nib wall in the entry that cracks repetitively despite metal brackets, metal rods and re plastering. Moisture in the walls that back onto both our main bathroom and ensuite bathroom which despite repetitive re sealing has caused damage to our skirting boards, walls, plaster and carpet, not to mention being the cause of the nib wall in the entry cracking. The wir that backs onto the entry wall is also cracked from floo...r to ceiling despite being re plastered. In the last 4 years Each of these rooms have been resealed, repainted and re plastered and you can imagine the dust and dirt and work site conditions this causes throughout the house. We also had severe cracking at the front of the house and when the external render was removed it revealed that the bricks did not even touch the window! The last repairs were done a few months back- complete re sealing in main bathroom and re plastering and painting of the front entry... and the damage is already showing. After contacting celebration last week the same solutions have been offered, mind you no one has rang back to book any of this. In frustration I have sent this text to the maintenance supervisor and am yet to have a response. Please note that I am 28 weeks pregnant with a high risk pregnancy and the room in question in between the 2 bathrooms and the front entry is the soon to be nursery! Hi ________. I did leave a message for you yesterday without a reply. We are still waiting on contact from anyone re: bathrooms and plaster. As you know we have a baby on the way in 10 wks and obviously there is some urgency required with this matter! [name removed] informed me that you were going to have the bathrooms resealed however I fail to see how this will fix the problem as it has been resealed repetitively over the last 4 years. We have had to take the carpet up due to the water damage only to see the full extent of celebration's contractors incompetence. As you can see the carpet has been ruined by water damage on either side of both bathrooms! The last major works completed in both rooms was suppose to fix the issues however here we are, once again, awaiting a solution and waiting for people to bother to ring and then come and cover our house in dust and make it look like a work site. Please do not tell me that re plastering and re waterproofing will fix this situation. Both bathrooms need the tiles completely removed, dried out walls, full waterproofing done and then re tiling. Once that is complete perhaps the wall will have some structural integrity that will not see it crack and split every few months after it has been 'fixed'. The carpet in the spare room need replacing and those walls also need stripping back, drying out and re painting. Anything less is a repeat of the botched half-assed job that has been done numerous times over multiple years causing nothing but stress for our family. Please call at your earliest convenience WITH a solution that will actually put an end to this. Kind regards,
More than 4 years on we have tiles cracking in both bathrooms. In both showers there is a crack running down in a line through the tiles and yet the walls seem sound. We have been given two possible reasons... poor tiles or cheap glue. Our main bathroom doesn't even get used and yet there is cracking. The tiles are basic white Crosby tiles and we had WBN tradies - you would expect better on both. So at our own cost, we are now having to pull off the tiles and retile. The only good outcome of all this mess is that we actually get to have the tiles that Celebrations wouldn't allow us to have.
Series of Nightmares
Closing the sale was a breeze and then SERIES of nightmares began. Our sales consultant [Name Removed] was very helpful at the beginning. We signed and paid the $2000 down payment for the layout we have wanted and agreed upon. Major tweaks were done in the Masters bedroom. As soon as preliminary drawings were provided [Name Removed] informed us that the windows in our master’s bedroom will be fixed as this was near the meter box. This was never disclosed and we have never agreed on it when we signed up with Celebrations. Who in their right mind...would want the windows of their bedroom be fixed? There would be no ventilation in the room when this happens. Another option he gave us was to put a meter box near the front door. This would really be unsightly and again, this is not what we have signed up for. We don’t want to go home to a house that we will be paying a huge loan for a long time and get annoyed/irritated with the design we didn’t choose. Since we were aiming to settle the land at a certain date to get the $2,500 gift check promo, we conceded and just paid the structural specification of $450. We were waiting for the plans and always following up with our sales consultant since loan cannot be approved without the drawings. It took a very long time for him to provide and when he finally did, windows on the wall we had asked to be flipped did not happen. He assured us that this would be flipped with no additional cost for us during the pre-start meeting. Banking on what he said, we signed the contract as we were pressed for time. In the end, we lost the GC promo when in fact, it was the builder delaying our settlement, had to pay structural fee just to get what we have signed up for AND during the pre-start meeting, our prestart consultant [Name Removed] told us that again it would cost us structural fee to flip the walls when our sales consultant promised that we will not incur other charges. As we already paid have lost enough, we did not pursue with the 2nd structural “change.” We were hoping that the nightmares have ended but during site works, we were then again initially asked to pay additional $1100 initially for an excavator for hard sand digging. Even if we signed a fixed price building contract, we were still given the burden of paying for it even if this was an error on their part as it was their engineers who provided those reports for their pricing. Building of our house was on hold for less than 3 weeks and we have already requested a copy of the revised engineers report which was only provided after we gave an ultimatum that we will file a complaint with the building commission if we will not been provided with this report. So much money and time wasted while these were happening as interest has been incurring plus add the additional rent we have to incur with the delays. Lastly, the last straw that made me write this review. I had requested for a variation recently and our prestart/construction coordinator emailed back saying that we could not include any variations anymore. I vividly remembered when we had our prestart meeting and I inquired about adding variations and she just mentioned that we have to pay the variation fee. I cannot recall any instance in our meeting informing us that we cannot add anymore once construction has been done. I cannot understand why she cannot accommodate us since our house is still at the brick stage. It’s hard to relive these events but I hope this review would help out future homebuyers who would want to build with Celebration Homes. We are part of first home buyers market and we were hoping that this would be a fun experience for us but we made a wrong choice by signing up with Celebrations Homes. Please consider other builders who are committed in providing excellent pre and post service and not just after closing any sale. Poor Customer Service
poor customer service
the timeframe for the buuld has been good but the service has been really poor. no contact or meeting with site supervisor and we're at lock up with cupboards been installed already. not allowed to speak to the supervisor and even after calling the office to report a problem with cracks on the slab we were told it would be ok. not very reassuring.
What a company
After dealing with the sales rep for a couple of month we signed up in July , We were told we could expect to be in the house in 24 weeks ??????.
The slab went down at the start of Sept and then nothing, short of bricks we were told ????,
The Brickies started a week before Christmas, then off for Holidays .
Restarted mid January .
After complaining about delay we were told "not to worry" that they would catch up as they had tradesmen just waiting for the bricklayers to finish , and that when they did all the other trades would rush in ???...
Just disappointed.. Misleading Client!!
We are First Home Buyer entering the property market last year.. after several visits to various display homes and blocks, decided to sign up for an untitled land, we have been made aware that the title won't be ready for at least 6 months..
Since then, we have begun discussion with several builders and narrowed down the selection to Celebration Homes and another reputable local builder, preliminary plans and base price were received from both builders for consideration.
We have indicated to both builders title will be delayed and not ...in the rush to sign up the building contract, even gave them the worst case scenario of 12 months delayed in title. Both builders indicate that we would be expecting increase in house pricing in December 2012 and since then builders have rushed us to sign up. Celebration Homes offered 6 months price hold promo and later alter to 8 months price hold promo, with sales person later again emailed us in writing that he "would secure the current price and current promo* (*which no matter when we build the price will not change)" and suggested the building contract is standard across the board which was provided by the Housing Industry Association (HIA). At the same time, we have also received 11 months price hold promo from the other builder verbally. But at the end, we have decided to go to Celebration Homes simply because of the written email received about price holding. As expected, title was delayed for more than 6 months.. Celebration Homes verbally suggested title of land will be ready around August 2013 and requested us to attend the pre-start meeting. During the meeting, we have signed the building contract with few minor variations for additional material and changes.

We are building a house with Celebration Homes, almost complete. A good friend of ours recommended CELEBRATION after having a good BUILD result. We decided to go with Celebration Homes and do a Turn -Key package, THUS reduce some work for ourselves, as an elderly couple, we do not want or need any extra burden. Turnkey package was inclusive of all floor coverings and an irresistible painting package, WONDERFUL - But -So far NO KEY, no Handover, and for what its worth the paint work is extremely poor!! To be perfectly honest - the build experie...nce has been excellent from the start of the project " almost flawless " all the way to pre-handover. At pre-handover we went through everything ON SITE and created a list of fixes, mostly to do with the painting of the house" all INCLUDED IN THE PACKAGE" , but there were a few other things that might go un-noticed for someone doing their first build. From the pre-handover meeting- apparently the builder has 10 days to fix remediate any problems and then do the handover. We are now approaching 50 days since the pre-handover meeting, but our mistake was - we did make the final payment for practical completion - being convinced that all PROBELMS would be rectified. My advice to anyone building with Celebration - or anyone else in the building game for that matter, PLEASE DO NOT MAKE THE FINAL PAYMENT UNTIL YOU ARE 100% HAPPY. Do not make the final payment until the fixes are complete. Do not believe for one moment that it will be fixed in what is a reasonably practicable amount of time\, OR THAT ANYONE CARES. As consumers, we do have specific rights, AND BUILDERS HAVE A CODE OF PRACTICE. We signed a building Contract with Celebration Homes, WE DID EVERYTHING THAT WAS ASKED, MADE ALL OF THE PRESCIBED PAYMENTS ON TIME, please let me know if our rights have changed. What surprises me the most, is the people have already moved in next door, and their slab went down well after our walls were already going up. Please-Please get it finished.!!! We liked the hoem layout and the fact that Celebration could help us get a block, the turnkey package was the winning factor. . It has now been 50 days since pre-handover meeting! Please tell me what is right with this???
Not satisfied with customer service
I signed contacted Celebrations in November 2012 as I had been looking around for house designs that I liked and came across one in their range. When I went in for my initial chat, I indicated that I was a first home buyer and new to this whole process. What I requested was this particular home design. I also said that I want this process to be as quick as possible as I would be working away and would want it complete by the time I came back to Perth. I asked my sales rep to find me a block of land in an area I requested that would be suita...ble for this home design. He found me a block of land, was great with the minor design changes that we made to the design, and contracts were signed. My issue with Celebrations is that they found me an untitled block. I didn't really understand the problems of having an untitled block. The building consultant did explain about it, but I will say he and the land salesperson sugarcoated the reality of it all, and with this being my first time I didnt fully understand it. It has now been 8 months since I began this process with them and I still haven't began building. I will stress that this delay is out of Celebrations hands and is caused by the land developer, however I now realise that when I requested a suitable block of land and I wanted a quick build, I should have not been offered an untitled block. To make the matter worse, I have now been hit with a $5,100 variation due to "price increases since signing due to delays". When requesting evidence to support this increase, they were unwilling to provide this and would only say "prices go up over time". Also, their presentation of this variation to me was "We are ready to go to site in about two weeks. Sign this variation and then we can begin building", which I view as being given an ultimatum. My other issue is that in the sales meeting, I was told to go view some Celebrations display homes. He said that they only fit out these houses with products in their standard range of items, not their upgrades. I viewed a few display homes and was impressed with how they were presented. Upon going to my pre-start, I found out this is not true. The list of things I encountered were: ceaserstone benchtops (upgrade product), front door (upgrade product), tiling (not in celebrations range), carpets (not in celebrations range), outdoor paving (not in celebrations range).
Not very satisfied new home buyer
We had people telling us that Celebration Homes is a good builder and that they had no problems building with them. We were convinced by a Sales Consultant to go with Celebration Homes. However our Sales Consultant is not very good at guiding and giving good advice to new home buyers.
I’m a perfectionist, and it takes time for me to make decisions to create my dream home. We initially wanted a floorplan from Ventura Homes, and our consultant said he can do it and make a few changes to it. We were told by Ventura Homes that it is a copyright ...issue if we proceed, but our consultant said there’s no issue as long as 10% of the changes are made on the plan. He got the plan drawn, but we later scrapped it after reading an article and getting confirmation from Dale Alcock that what the consultant is doing is a copyright issue and we will be sued, not Celebration Homes. Later, we chose the Sol and made lots of variations (at least $30K worth excluding siteworks, crazy I know and it’s not even a turn key package), and I felt like our Sales Consultant didn’t have a lot of experience or suggestions to help us make our dream home. He just happily jot down our variations and get them quoted for us. He kept telling us to give him variations that would affect the blueprint of the house, anything that can be done at prestart, should wait till prestart to add them in. And when we wanted to make changes to our variations, he still jots them down, but in an annoyed way. It came to a point that I don’t really want to converse with my consultant and I passed almost all conversations to my husband to convey to him. We put our deposit down in Sept 2012, and wanted to change to Dale Alcock after that as we didn’t really like our floorplan in the end. But our sales consultant was so hard core that Celebrations told Dale Alcock to back off. We felt that we had no choice but to stick with Celebration Homes, and then we signed the contract in Dec 2012. We wanted recess wall for our ensuite, which our sales consultant said that we can do that in prestart. Only now at prestart, our prestart coordinator said that because our house is a single brick wall, we cannot have recess wall. I was very upset upon hearing this news. We also told our consultant that we wanted termimesh around Sept 2012. He said I can do that at prestart, then after we tried to switch to Dale Alcock in Dec 2012, he noted down in our 2nd variations that Termimesh will be quoted. And then prestart came along, our prestart coordinator didn’t even know we wanted Termismesh, and finally got my Termimesh quote and just finished prestart in April 2013.
Worst aftercare of a client!
We built with Celebrations in 2010 and had a relatively good experience up and until the aftercare maintenance. We upgraded our front door and have had nothing but drama's with celebrations as our door has been leaking for 3 years, I have slipped whilst 8 months pregnant with my 1st child and they cant figure out why our door is leaking? We have had numerous carpenters and supervisors out and they seems to be all baffled??? We have had weather strips, silicone on door and still a problem. Last month the door manufacturer came out and conducted...an inspection on the door he told me the strip may have been put round wrong way and that is why we are still having problems. I have left numerous message for someone to contact me in the maintenace division over 3 days, finally a lady contacted me back to tell me the report that came back from the manufacturer states our door is in good condition??????????? Lies!!!!!!!!!!!! They are not persuing the matter now as they have this lovely little report stating this. How is our door in a good condition if we are still leaking after 3 years? I was told a manager would contact me yesterday I am now going into my 2nd day with no management contact! I am not going to hold my breathe with any contact with celebrations however, I am pregnant with my 2nd child and should I slip and hurt myself due to a faulty door that they wish to not fix after 3 years I will be pursuing further action legally! Customer service dont get back to you ever and you need to ring numerous times! Dont waste your time, build with a better builder . We are looking at building again and would never go through this builder again and I will be letting all my friends know not too either! Faulty front door for 3 years!
Fair warning to any new home builder.
My wife and I signed up to build with Celebration homes at the height of the boom in WA in 2008 so we could get the generous first home builders grant. As it turns out, the funds we had received were very short of generous after the builder's terrible service. Please see the summarised version of the building process below.
1 - Told it would be 12 months to build, took 6 months. We had to cancel a rental agreement at significant cost to my wife and I because a typical rental agreement states that if you cant find someone to sublet you are li...able for the whole of the contract until such a time as you can... blah blah blah (Please note this is the general gist). 2 - After having reviewed and signed over 25 contracts with the builder, all pretty much for the same thing with some slight modifications we kicked off the building process. Do yourself a favor, do not sign anything! 3 - The prestart co-coordinater was a brilliant actor. Great to my face and on the phone, but give her an email and she was borderline abusive. A lot of our problems stem from the prestart. We asked for certain things that the useless prestart lady said she would do but never took down any notes, as if she was not even present. 4 - Before the concrete paid went down, they filled the block with lime to do the site works. Note, nothing grows in lime so we have had to remove the soil at great expense to actually have a garden.
Questions & Answers
I built my home back in 2017 with Celebration Homes. I had the 1 year post maintenance guys come out and sort the cracks out and used a jack hammer thing to gauge out the cracks and refill them. Last year I noticed them coming back in the same area and now they’re bigger than ever, is this is covered by celebration homes warranty ?
I’m wanting to paint soon and I can’t paint with those massive cracks ! Needing some advice please
If you want to contact our service department at email@example.com they will be able to help you.
Hi can you supply your own tiles if you don't like what you guys have in your showrooms. It seems there isn't much varity in you kitchen wall tile selection at your showrooms.
Unfortunately not, one of our Prestart Consultants can take you through the range of tiles available if you like, Feel free to give us a call on 9202 2300 for more info.
Does Celebration Homes have an online PRE-START website where we can view standard selections and upgrades?
Not to my knowledge, they have something called
"The more store" plus a booklet with all the selections etc, but they give those out once you have signed on i believe. They do have a showroom in osborne Park that you can go view all the items :)
Hi Donna, We have a prestart page where you can find out some more info about our selections and see our Product selection book, there is also a Virtual tour of our showroom. Feel free to give us a call. https://www.celebrationhomes.com.au/prestart-meeting/
