Ive had my certa chainsaw for a couple of years now and besides the chain-lube leak, it has worked OK. The pull start recoil mechanism failed today. I couldnt repair it, so need a new one. I can't find Certa spare parts. Are the Baumr ones the same?

Ron B.

I pulled mine apart to find the fixed anchor end had snapped off. I re-bent the end to match the fixing end of the cover then carefully rewound the spring. Tedious but not hard. Once it's in, rewinding to correct tension is easy.

I've had a great run from my 20" 52cc Certa, but I can't find the chain model/spec anywhere in manual or online. What model chain do we buy to replace please?

My user manual says

Saw Chain Type K2 (CARLTON) Saw Chain Pitch 0.325” Saw Chain Gauge 0.058” Guide Bar Type Sprocket Nose Guide Bar Size 18.20.22”

Thanks, yes I read that, but it applies to the 18, 20 and 22" bars. I was hoping to find out how many teeth for the 20" to ensure I order the right one. I'll look again at saw chains, maybe the pitch, guage and length is all I need, not number of teeth.

With the Oregon Bar & Chain - with sprocket nose, How many links in the chain? I am intending to replace it but I do not have it nearby. Can anyone please help? Thank you, Paul

Hi, what Brand of Chainsaw engine oil is sold in Australia for Certa Make. Thanks, Tom

John O
John O

The User Manual says “Chain Oil Use motor oil SAE# 10W-30 all year round, or SAE#30 / #40 in summer and SAE#20 in winter. Do not use wasted or regenerated oil that can cause damage to the oil pump.”

Doesn’t matter what brand. I use SAE 30. Its available lots of places e.g. Big W

John O
John O

Sorry you meant engine oil not chain oil. The User Manual says “Fuel Mix a regular petrol (unleaded) and a quality motor oil for air cooled 2 cycle [2 stroke] engines.” So I use the same oil for the fuel as I use for the chain. No brand is suggested. I just buy some 2 stroke engine oil at Big W. They usually specify on the label that is is suitable for small motors such as mowers.

what is the correct fuel and oil mixture? on the machine says 25:1 in manual says 50:1

Tony
Tony

I don't think it really matters. The saw's carburetor will block up long before a lean fuel mix does any damage to the piston. I've noticed over the years most chinese saws recommend 25:1. I only had one brand recommend 40:1. I use 150ml 2 stroke oil in to 5 litres of petrol. That works out about 37:1. That's never given me any problems.

my 52cc certa is doing a great job. my complaint is chain bar is excessively worn and don't know what to replace it with, any ideas? dont mind buying a better quality bar.

Hi Ron

Happy to hear your chainsaw is doing a great job.

I've had two and they have both given me heaps of grief. Not starting and always cutting out.

In regards to a better chain bar, I cannot see any other brand fitting.

Garry

Tony
Tony

My experience has been the same as Gary's, but the bar and chain was the only redeeming feature of it. The Certa bar and Oregon chain works on my 62cc MTM, oiling correctly. So by that rational this bar here on eBay should fit the Certa saw as it states it fits an MTM......222847683024.

I think all these chinese saws of a similar size, chain pitch and gauge (Certa, MTM, Giantz, Baumr-AG, Yukon, BBT etc.) are all basically the same design, which is a knock off of earlier Husqvarna models and they probably all come of the same production lines from the same factories using the same machinery. I put a 3/8 24" bar and chain from an 88cc Giantz on to my dad's Husky 365 and it was a perfect match, it ran better on the 65cc Husky than it did on the Giantz it came on.

Hi purchase Yukon 52 cc last year only problem that i had was the air filer letting dust in and also the thread bolts down on is not long enough i had to fit a longer one but the dust sill coming in . Any help? Regards John

Ranger
Ranger

Too many problems with these chainsaws.

My advice to anyone that wants a reliable chainsaw is to purchase a Stihl.

I'm over these cheapies. I've learnt my lesson.

Tony
Tony

I've never had one of these saws but I bought one of their bars and chain combo. Based on that product lasting less than a month before it wouldn't cut straight any longer, I would probably steer clear of their chainsaws. But I have had a Baumr-AG, a Certa, an MTM and several Roks. All these Chinese saws have 3 common shortcomings - they're not designed with comfort in mind for long periods of use, they seem to over rate their power (eg. compare my MTM 62cc to my Husky 59cc and the former is not in the league of the latter) and their air filters are weak. However getting 7 Chinese saws for the price of one German or Swedish saw, you've got to ask yourself is the extra money really worth it for a stihl or Husky? (bearing in mind all Stihl and Husky home owner saws are now made in China anyway apparently).

So I clean my air filters say every 3 tank loads of cutting with an air compressor gun and/or petrol. I pull the choke shut and scrape out the saw dust lining the air inflow mouth under the air filter. Also of late I've been manufacturing an extra seal out of an old bike tube to sit on top of the air filter in that space under the cover where the knob screws down to hold the top cover on. The seal that is on the bottom of the air filter seems to be inadequate, it lets too much dust through. The "rubber washer", if you like, is usually about the size of a 20c piece and I really do think it helps a bit. Even better if you can make one fit on the underside too. All these Chinese saws seem to use the same types of air filter set up. Eventually the carby will block up no matter how often you clean the air filter. In which case you decide whether to chuck it into land fill or pull the carby apart and clean all the dust out of the diaphram carefully. I find the compression on these saws disappears quite soon or some of them felt like they had little compression straight out the box to begin with. However, these still seem to work alright and from my experience, unlike Stihls and Huskys, they usually are easy to start every time. The quality on Chinese saws is getting better all the time!

I've used my Certa chain saw for about an hour & now it will not keep going. I can get it to start but when I attempt to reve it up it dies. I've attempted to tweet the slow & fast idles, all to no avail. Reset these too factory settings, 1 3/8 & 1 1/4 turns, still no better. Any ideas how to proceed? Allan

Tony
Tony

Is that the factory settings? I didn't know that. I usually turn the L and H completely in and then back them off 1 and a half turns but I hate adjusting carburetor jets, I rarely get it right. Is it any better when the air filter is off? I found that if I didn't blow the air filter clean with my air compressor gun after every 2 or 3 fuel tank loads, it wouldn't run properly. Even though the air filter looked alright, just rubbing the dust off on my jumper made it stop dying after start up. Even better if you can wash it in petrol (though not convenient when your up the paddocks working).

Ranger
Ranger

No use twiddling the settings. I think these chainsaws are inherently flawed. I returned my chaisaw once and got it back with the same problem. I returned it again and it was replaced with a new one. It ran for a couple of hours and stopped again. Unable to restart it.

I give up. My best advice is buy a Stihl chainsaw. You know the old saying, you get what you pay for.

How do I fix oil supply to chain 50 cc cretta?

Hugo C.

Hi, If supply oil not getting to chain, try emptying the oil out, remove the chain and put vacuum over oil filler hole turn on vacuum (ON BLOW NOT SUCK). This sometimes works treat. Good luck

My certa saw has been binned but I bought an MTM (which I'll leave a review of soon) and it seems to be of similar build. Perhaps they come out of the same factory. There's a screw underneath the saw to adjust oil flow.

The previous poster is right. If you're not getting any oil flow, remove the bar and blow compressed air into the oil hole on the machine. Sometimes the finishing in the Chinese factories is not good and a bit of plastic may be blocking the hole. I've had that before on a Chinese saw. It sat on the workshop floor for months while I decided what to do with it. A small engine repairs workshop guy pulled the clutch off and had a look at the oil pump. It's hard to tell whether an oil pump is working or not. In the end he blew compressed air into the oil hole and it started oiling!

The other thing to check is the oil filter in the oil tank. Fish it out carefully with a piece of wire and start the saw without a filter temporarily. If it's a new saw the filter's not going to be blocked but maybe it's just a bad filter. Any chainsaw oil filter will fit as a replacement in my experience. The pipes tend to be the same diameter.

I have heard complaints that the problem with Chinese saws is the oil pumps don't last long. But that hasn't been my experience from 9 saws I've owned. I would say the biggest problem with Chinese saws is the hopelessly inadequate air filters used on them resulting in blocked carburetors before long.

Brand new out of box , fuel and oil filled up , won’t even attempt to start ! And yes the switch is on , I’ve followed instruction book through . Any help out there ?

Hugo C.
Hugo C.

Hi Charlie I find if you pull the starter fast about 10 times with a choke out fully but normally kicks into Life. If it's not following check the spark plug see if there's any spark there if the spark plugs ok, and it has to be the petrol oil mixture might be just a fraction too much oil. Good luck,

Hugo

Unfortunately these chainsaws are very difficult to start. I returned mine to be repaired. It started but would not run for more than ten minutes or so. I returned it again and was given a new chainsaw. Have not used it since. Too much hassle. Good luck.

Thanks for responding , fuel was mixed accurately @20-1 as per run in recommendation. Spark seems fine . However as the oil cap doesn’t like sealing too good l laid the machine on its side and a considerable amount of fuel came out through the exhaust muffler . I’m still stumped !!!

Charlie
Charlie

Hugo you hit the nail on the head ! l didn’t accurately mix the fuel , l mixed to the marks on the supplied fuel bottle , 500 ml fuel - add oil to 20-1 level and hey presto , mix is nearly 7-1 !!! Chucked that mix away , started again, runs like a charm . I still used the bottle supplied but measured oil in a medicine cup . Thanks mate ...
