I approached CGU Insurance for pleasure craft insurance for a 2006 Hanse 370 yacht.
After the young lady I was speaking to spoke to the "senior underwriter" I was told that they could not find anything about this yacht and consequently it was outside their underwriting guidelines. My observation that Hanse was one of the big four production factories in Europe with a worldwide distribution network and that the 370 was one of Hanse's most popular models in Australia and worldwide did not make any difference.
It made me ask whether CGU was actually in the marine insurance business. That met with the same response that my vessel was outside CGU's underwriting guidelines.
It's hard to take CGU seriously after this encounter.
