I ordered and paid around $3500 for 8 x Eames walnut DCM chairs on 5 July 2019. They arrived in October 2019. On inspection, they had been sanded back but not finished properly. The sandpaper marks were still clearly visible and the chairs were covered in fine sawdust (see photo). Also, where the black rubber had been touched up, the paint had not been removed from the timber seat back (see photo). I sent an email with photographs to Chicicat requesting them to be finished. After getting no response, I sent another email. I was told to ..."apply a little wax" which Chicicat would gladly provide to my Sydney postal address and they would also refund $50. In my view, this was unacceptable. A month later, one of the backs fell off the chair (see photo). It was obvious to me that the chairs had been shipped directly from China without any intervention from or inspection by the Chicicat people. There was no quality control and Chicicat took no responsibility for the unfinished product. A poor reproduction and poor service. [names removed] would be turning in their graves!
Disappointing in every way
We ordered and paid for a Grant Featherstone replica chair on 10 July 2019. It was delivered on 22 November - 19 weeks after we ordered it. This significant delay was supposedly due to improvements in the design of the chair. While I am happy with the fabric we chose, the chair build is very disappointing as there is very little padding in the seat so it is quite hard and uncomfortable. By comparison my Matt Blatt Featherstone replica chair is much more comfortable and was considerably cheaper. I would not use Chicicat again.
