PT Cruiser MK.I (2000-2004)terrible car.

interior size was great, cabin design great. fake suede/leather seats were uncomfortable after about 30mins (missed that in the test drive)
month one. rear suspension replaced.
month three, steering developed a clunk. turn the wheel... clunk clunk clunk clunk. not good. also cruise control failed.
fixed under warranty.
month six. steering developed a clunk and cruise control failed.
this pattern didnt change for a year. steering was due to a design flaw. uni joint i

Must have been a lemon
PT Cruiser MK.II (2004-2005)We bought our 2004 Classic PT from the dealership brand new. We loved the look, styling and were quite suprised with the room inside. After 8 years and 75,000 kms later, we were happy to get rid of it. From the first month we bought it, we continually had problems with it, the majority of that being suspension, engine mounts and brakes. After the first month of having it, the car would groan when turning to the right. We had taken it to the dealership 5 times in the first 12 months (still under warranty) and they could never work out what it wa
... Read mores. They replaced brakes, suspension etc but it never was the same. She continued to clunk, rattle and squeal most of the time we drove it. We recently replaced the brakes again (through brake specialists) and it squealed everytime she was reversing. We took it back to brake specialists and they were amazed at the noises it would make (that is after they machined and replaced with high quality brake pads). In the end, we just gave up. Keep in mind, she had only travelled 75,000 kms and was driven carefully, never abused and always garaged. When we sold it, it still looked like the car we drove out of the dealership with. The car still had the factory markings and stickers on it ("o.k" stamp on left rear inner wheel arch, sticker on rear suspension bar etc). The car required no detailing. The engine bay was concourse. Electronically, she was great and we only replaced the battery once after 7 and a half years! I kept the original battery with it's special blanket that it comes with from the factory. The windows, central locking, radio, display, lights etc never failed. Buyer's please note: common problem with these cars is the upper and lower engine mounts. The rubbers perish on these rapidly. They are easy to replace (refer to YouTube), and if you do your research, you can buy them cheap over the net here in Australia. Like all other brands of cars, sometimes they will make a lemon. A fellow workmate has also had a PT from new (his was a "Limited") and he never had a problem with his. I shudder everytime I think how much more she would deteriorate mechanically if we kept it any longer. Because of our experience, we will never consider a psuedo american built car again. Styling, comfortable, spacious. Brakes, suspension and engine mounts. Turning circle, not a great deal of power from a 2.0 litre for a heavy car. Silly position for rear window switches (back of console).- Transmission: Automatic

Briliant 05 PT
PT Cruiser MK.II (2004-2005)I cannot be more happy with the purchase of our PT. Its a Limited so has all the bells and whistles, and would seriously be the best car I have owned. Its a car that people love or hate, so expect comments either way. Our Phil and Ted pram and all baby stuff fits in the back under the cargo shelf so noone sees it and its secure. Fuel usage arounbd town is dismal but on the highway its brilliant. I dont use Chrysler service tech as they are as good as useless but use my own mechanic. Parts are expensive but hey its not to bad to own someth

PT Cruiser MK.III (2006-2010)It brings the fun back into motoring, whilst still delivering a good, solid, reliable car. Of course, the retro styling is fantastic and the electric blue body color, with the dark tinted windows, looks amazing. I smile every time I get into it. I would definately buy another one in the future, and would recommend this car to anyone who wants to get away from the boring 'boxy' cars, yet still want something practical and reliable. It's also reasuring to have front and side airbags for driver, and front passenger.
I love this car! The interior i

PT Cruiser MK.II (2004-2005)Cool looking car, starts every time. Turning circle in my forty yearn old Holden is HEAPS better, the field of view gets a bit ordinary around the rear of the car, but it's very comfortable, got all the fruit ( front arm rests, heaps of cup holders, lighted sun visor mirrors, heated side mirrors, picnic table in the rear, CD storage under seat etc. and so on and so forth) and a retro appeal. If Chellingworth are decent with me regarding my problems just out warranty, I'll give it 4.2 out of five, if not, I'll put a spell on them and their fam

I've added some classic pinstriping to the back, it stands out from the crowd. Five hour solid trips are very comfortable, mine's manual with cruise control, very smooth. Good on the juice, when the ink black duco's gleaming, the alloys are free of brake dust, my two year old's in the back, window down, waving to every car we pass, my heavily tattooed arm is resting on the sill, there isn't a Japanese car on the road that looks as interesting. 2004, registered 2005, 37,000 kms, water pump has given up and the second remote door locking mechanism has given in (not three weeks out of warranty), I'm very gentle on my cars, serviced and maintained to spec, really dissapointed.- Body: Hatch

Hi Shawn, don't be fooled, batteries can be found at any Battery Store. I phoned my local store and they matched it without any issue. PS, check the engine mounts, these are unreliable. See You Tube.
Excellent
PT Cruiser MK.III (2006-2010)You either love the look of this car or could not care less. If you want a car that will get smiles from those you pass this is it. Just dont expect hot rod performance. Good on the fuel. With the ability to fold down all the seats we have carried two 6 foot ladders easily. With extra wide opening doors and upright seats it is easy to jump in and out. We took one on a 5000km road trip and we still had nothing bad to say about our PT.
Looks exceptional. Numerous storage configurations. Well thought out interior. Happy to sit at 110kmh all day in 40oC heat. Upright sitting position.
wide turning circle, poor vision out the back.

PT Cruiser MK.III (2006-2010)I love love love my cruiser! My fiance didn't event want me to buy it but now that he has driven it, he loves it too, he gets in and puts the arm rest down and off he goes! This car looks absolutely fantastic and unique, I would never want to drive a car that looks the same as everyone else's. So far, havent had any mechanical problems, I was a little shocked at how much a basic service costs and the parts are not as cheap as some. Its worth paying the little bit extra to drive such a great vehicle! I hated driving before I got my cruiser, now,

PT Cruiser MK.III (2006-2010)I have the 2007 model, but it's the same as the 2007 as far as I can see. Great feel good car, reliable, pretty much everything works except remote locking a little dodgy. Drop top is great, better, quieter and quicker than my mates BMW 330. Not a performance car on the road, needs stiffer suspension and larger motor if you want speed. Great amount of room in the back. Top is water tight !! We live in tropical Nth QLD and it RAINS , car sits outside and has never leaked AT ALL ! My six year old daughter has claimed this car when she grows up ... not sure she will be able to get it off me !
Great for warm summer nights. Good storage. Heaps of room in the back
Remote locking can be temperamental ,

PT Cruiser MK.III (2006-2010)Purchased new in 2007 and now with 40,000 kilometres (including 3 interstate road trips between Brisbane and Melbourne) and the rest mainly typical suburban fare, I'd have to say it's probably the most FAMILY friendly convertable within a reasonable price range. It is capable of 8.8l p/100km on the highway but it's heavier around town with 12l p/100km a more realistic consumption guide. I hired a Ford Falcon XR6 around the same time I bought this and the Falcon had better economy! The economy doesn't seem to show much variation for driving styl
... Read morees either. It's a solid heavy car that definately comes in on it's own as a road cruiser as long as you plan for your overtaking. You need to flog the guts out of it and row through the gearbox (speaking of rental cars) to get a decent hurry-along. Not great in supermarkets, you need to allow space for the wide door opening required between cars unless you are skeletal . The plastic interior looks like it's made from recycled McHappy meal toys. The engine is frankly a dog- a pity it didn't get the 2.4 MVEC motor when Mitsubishi were in bed with Chrysler. Even the old Magna 2.6 saturn motor would be an advance over this boat anchor. The gearshift immediately brings to mind the old saying 'like shifting through a bucket of spanners'- an mx5 it certainly is not in that department. Having now identified this is clearly not a drivers car, let's focuss on the good bits. It's got a ton of room for a convertable- must easily be a class leader on that score. You can even turn it into a ute... Dead set! Just tumble the back sets forward, drop the roof and voila- I dropped an entire DJ sound system and light rig straight into the back of it. Try that in your panzie VW Hitler. Speaking of the toothbrush moustache one, our neighbour actually calls our PT 'the Hitler car', but he's just jealous. Tiida Drivers. They have no hope. Those swatstika looking black mag wheels do give it a certain schnell & fuhrious look about it though. Kids openly wave and smile at you. Adults will sneak an inconspicuous peak. And that's the beauty of this thing. It is a feel good machine. When my wife is doing her monthly howl at the moon routine I just send her off to the shops with the roof down and the credit card limit raised and she's back purring like a kitten. My 6 year has already bagged it as his first driver. Which is a worry because by then (we ain't selling it -ever) it will have a supercharger bolted into it! Other great things is the glass rear window- It won't go yellow like those plastic ones you see elsewhere. The fixed rear parcel shelf also means you don't loose half your boot space when you drop the lid. A rather unfortunate design fault in many other convertables if you ask me. For space- this is King. Some people will unkindly say it looks like a bathtub on wheel from the back, but I will say this... When your new car becomes the 'old model' and it's time to keep up with the Joneses, think of me! This car was a 50 year classic from the moment we drove it off the dealership and it's timeless motoring that will be as cool as the Fonz even in 20 years time while you chew on the depreciation costs of whatever motorised toaster they'll be offering as wheels in 2025. They only brought 200 into Australia but be careful- most of them found their way onto the Europcar rental fleet so if you can't verify original ownership- be wary. A unique vehicle that will win you over, despite it's many shortcomings. Cool, Head turning, feel good machine, Good open roader, Feels solid as... Seats 4 adults for a decent run. Good boot space (for a cabrio) Can turn into a UTE... Hooray! Dog motor, Kenworth gear shift, Interior plastic made from recycled McHappy meal toys. Economy on par with a Ford Territory.- Body: Convertible (Cabrio)

PT Cruiser MK.III (2006-2010)Great roomy vehicle. Purchased PT rather than SLK 200/230 due to room, networking support provided by PT Cruiser club, or an Astra Cabrio.
Very roomy car,for a cabrio, ease of access into wide opening doors for elderly and disabled passengers. A/C very good, similar ducting to RR Silver Shadow. Wife loves her toy.
Turning circle not too good but it is a front wheel drive. 2010/11 being last year of production by FIAT.
