Code Camp
Can’t wait to go again
My son had a brilliant day and can’t wait to go again. There were 2 facilitators and 10 children so plenty of supervision and help. He came home and immediately wanted to teach me everything he learnt.

Great program for a 8 year old
The course was pitched at the right level for my son. It allowed him to express himself and his wild ideas! . He had a great time and the teachers were very supportive

Great experience, we'd go again.
My child really enjoyed the two days "It was fun and the teachers were really nice. I liked the music and it was fun being creative." We'd definitely join in again.

An okay program
It was a little disorganized - It is one thing to teach the subject, it is another thing to understand how to teach a subject to children that various in age. I prefer a free online program called code.org supported by Microsoft, Facebook, Amazon, the Infosys Foundation, and Google

It’s very interesting activity for kids
My kid loves being a DJ and enjoyed the activity there. They mixed two pieces of music into a DJ edition. The music is great. They also made some computer presentations and played on PC

Fun and Entertaining for kids
I was disappointed at the first day of DJ camp as the kids could not get a laptop for whole time which I paid for but It had been fixed the second day when I complained.

DJ Code Camp
My son absolutely loved it! He doesn't want to become a DJ, but enjoyed learning all about it and asked to do it again, he had so much fun. I just wish there had of been a program closer to us, as it was a fair way to travel for it.

Android Users not looked after
My child attended the 2 day animation course recently, unfortunately he was the only person who was using an Android pad instead of the rest of the children in his session. The first day he mentioned he was coupled with a buddy who they did a movie together, I asked whether he had learnt anything he said hardly any as he wasn't the owner of the Ipad. Fair enough. We all know if anyone who does not have hands on experience with anything especially with electronic equipment the experience and learning is limited. I asked him whether he asked for ...
Read moreassistance during that day, he said he did but wasn't received. Fair enough, I thought maybe my child is a bit quiet and shy that's why I didn't questioned further. The next day when I dropped him off to the class again I insisted to the teaching staff / my kid also if he had trouble and whether he could get assistance using his Android Pad. The second day, I picked him up again his pad wasn't used. When I asked the staff, what had happened they said they saw him again using his buddy's Ipad. To me, I couldn't emphasis enough the feedback to the staff there, whether it was well received & listened was a big question mark. I felt like he didn't learn as effective as the other children even though we paid the same fees.Review collected in partnership with Code Camp

Too many members in a team
YouTube camp. My child was in a team of 4. Two of the members were 1-2 years older and dominated the project. My child seemed to have played a relatively small part in the overall project. This provided the opportunity for less-driven students to simply cruise through the day without learning. The opportunity for the older members to lead and mentor were also missed. Perhaps closer anticipatory supervision would be more beneficial. Only generic details were provided at the end of day 1 and 2, so there was no opportunity for timely constructive ...
Read morefeedback. Poor value for the amount charged. UPDATE: Code Camp contacted me and explained that a team of 4 should not have happened. I appreciate their effort in ensuring better quality. There might need to be further training of teaching staff on expected standard so they can provide better mentoring for students to develop technical skills as well as communication/ leadership ability.Review collected in partnership with Code Camp

Was amazing
The course was a lot of fun and I look forward to coming back. The course content could have been more advanced for my needs. The course was magnificent and the tutors were enthusiastic. The teaching staff were very helpful and patient with various technical difficulties. In all, it was fun.

YouTube creators
My child spent 3 days at YouTube creators and didn’t learn anything new. It is a program suitable for very beginners. This was an underwhelming experience. I would have liked to see more effective ways to use YouTube, creating channels, gaining subscribers, how to upload and ways to use YouTube safely and effectively.
Hi Grace, thanks for the feedback and for trying YouTube Creators for your child. As per the syllabus on our website at www.codecamp.com.au/camps/youtube-creators, the learning outcomes are primarily ...

Great education - but is the medal really necessary
Hi Code camp,
My daughter had a great time at code camp and she has asked to go again.
But as a committed environmentalist I can't say I am a big fan of the gold medal she received. The code camp hat has some value (although I already have plenty of hats). But why do we have to keep giving children medals and trophies for participation. Good old fashioned certificate (on recyclable paper) would be reward enough.

great three days for the kids
Had two children attend the course over the three days. Both thoroughly enjoyed it. It was starter course so content was right and good outcome of the course was their own app.

Wonderful programme
My 8 year old son loved his time at Code Camp, the teachers were so friendly, welcoming and supportive. The programme was extremely well organised - a very slick operation! The merchandise is a nice touch - my son wore his Code Camp hat was worn constantly for the 3 days of camp and he was absolutely thrilled with his medal and certificate on the last day. Only suggestion would be to have some activities that foster connection between the kids in addition to the actual coding work - my son said the kids were a bit unfriendly and I wonder if some group activities in break times might have helped to build some friendships, which would have made the camp absolutely perfect.

Questions & Answers
Hi, we are booked into the Animation Camp at St Andrews for 5/6 January and have requested a refund multiple times in the last 2 weeks (via email and chat on the CodeCamp website) due to covid lockdown on Northern Beaches. To date I have received no response whatsoever from anyone at CodeCamp. Could someone please help. Happy to provide booking reference etc when not via a public forum. Many thanks, Andrew Tait
Hi Andrew, apologies for the delay here on Product Review. I can see that the team replied and processed a full credit on January 4. Please feel free to reach out via email (hello@codecamp.com.au) if any follow-up questions. Many thanks. Ben
Do you need to have done spark or ignite before you do this camp. (even if you have prior experience from another provider?)
The description says you do but the latest description I read of ignite said "unless you have heaps of outside experience". Best to call and confirm.
Hi, I am considering enrolling my 5 1/2 into the coding course at Newcastle Grammar. He can be a little shy around kids he doesn’t know and quiet in big groups. I was just wondering if a course like this would be good for him and how many have booked for the 16 & 17 course and if there were any boys booked in?
Thanks
Hi Alissa, thanks so much for getting in touch. Our Little Heroes camp is designed to get kids working together in teams to solve fun coding problems. We often find that kids who are shy will walk awa...
Read morey with new friends and a newfound love of coding :) Little Heroes tends to have a 50/50 male/female ratio so that won't be an issue either. Thanks, JoshOk great it sounds like a lot of fun. Do you have many spots left for the 16 & 17?
Hi Alissa, we still have good availability for those dates in Newcastle. We expect this will sell out nearer the time though :)
