Reliable source of light

published

We have been using the Coleman northern star for a few years now and it has been reliable and robust design. The fact that you can run it on car fuel makes it easy to get fuel especially in remote areas.
Carry spare mantles with you they do get brittle after left in storage.
The light produced is bright. To get the light to work needs you to pump the tank to pressuring the tank.
We have used it a lot and we can not fault the unit.

Purchased in August 2015 at Kangaroo Tent City & BBQ's.

Coleman Northstar dual fual lantern

published

Update:
Excellent performance from this great unit. Light output is superb, build quality is great. Auto ignition is a pleasure. Recommend use of 91 octane or lower unleaded if available for clean burn. 98 octane is not recommended by Coleman engineer in australia due to additives that wont burn off. Coleman naptha fuel is hard to get and very expensive but will give longer service life. Same light output as unleaded.
Well done Coleman, so impressed i bought three units! They leave LED's for dead! Rock on!

Purchased in August 2019.

Good light, bright, mantles last ages, a bit noisy and does get hot

published

Great quality, super bright, mantles last about 4 weeks (4-5 hours per night). 1 tank of petrol lasts about 8-10 hours. We use ours in a shed (temporary living) so is great in winter as it get quite hot. Not so good in summer when we're trying to keep the heat out. Is a bit noisy at full brightness, but i guess it would be the same LPG

There's nothing brighter

published

I'm on my third Northstar in over 15 years. First one I reversed over, second one got nicked. Wouldn't go on a camping trip without it. Mantles last longer than gas ones. Can use on petrol and shellite. Easy to light the ignition, just have make to sure the battery is fresh.
The brightest light on the camp site
pricy, but worth it

No comparison I have both, the LPG lamp is nowhere near as bright even a 400 watt gas lamp isn't as bright.
