I’ve been a customer for 20 years and not had many issues besides unfair account fees and charges which I’ve had reversed when it happened. However I recently had $370 fraudulent transactions on my account and called to get it fixed, they assured me would get the money back in 5-20 bus days, didn’t offer a credit in mean time but I didn’t need it so not big deal. A week later I got $300 back, $70 was outstanding but I just thought I’d wait. Now 3 weeks later $70 still missing, and what’s more the $300 I was refunded was again taken out of my ba...nk account! Leaving me in a negative balance. I called to complain only to be told, oh you were refunded twice, when clearly I wasn’t. Had to be transferred 3 times and repeat my story each time only be told there is nothing they can do and I have to wait 5 business. I requested a credit until then or some kind of compromise but apparently nothing can be done and I have to wait for the money, which I thought was already sorted. People on the phone were confused and couldn’t explain what was going on and just said it was ‘conplicated’. Hopefully I get the money back soon.
No Care For Their Customers
I've banked with Commbank since I was a small child throwing my gold coins into a Dollarmites account. I'm now in my 20s, but Commbank don't see their customers as people, just pawns. I tried purchasing plane tickets last year for a holiday and they locked my account, made me go into a branch because it "couldn't be fixed over the phone" and in that branch, the employee handed a phone to me and told me to speak with the person on the other end. Why couldn't I have done that from the comfort of my lounge room?? And because of that, I started usi...ng Up as my main bank (whom I would HIGHLY recommend to anyone looking for a better bank) and only used Commbank for my rent account. A payment came out for something the other day & I didn't realise it had even come out, so I didn't know I had to put funds back into the account (it has $0 at all times these days due to all my money being with Up) and so today I find a $15 charge on my account for overdrawing. Huh? A few days of not realising I had spent $20 out of the wrong account meant I lost another whopping $15 for literally nothing. As soon as I can change my rent situation, I'm leaving this bank.
Credit Card Team- Hopeless Financial Assistance Team Hopeless
Had two loans with this bank, personal and car, paid off both about a week ago and they cancelled a credit card without leniency because of me not meeting their minimum requirements in repayments, despite both loans being paid off early, and not being at the limit of the card.
Call centre wait times are ridiculous.
Everytime I need to call them I need to be on hold for minimum 1 hour. I don't care whether we have a pandemic or the world is coming to an end. If they want to keep operating, they need to hire more call centre staff! Thank goodness my home loan is going to be refinanced with another bank in a couple of days. Sick of dealing with this lousy bank with terrible customer service.
I’ve been with commonwealth for over two years, as they are pretty much the only bank that offers a student credit card. Every interaction I’ve had with commonwealth has been great! I had to cancel my card in 2018 due to fraud, and again earlier this year after I lost it, and they were amazing to deal with both times. No long phone holds, onshore call centres and dealt with the fraudulent money very quickly and without hassle. The app has never been an issue, and I love the notifications to my phone anytime I purchase anything.
Called and hold for 2 hrs not respond at all. Second day same.
Doesn't matter what day or time you calling always on hold for alteast 1 hr. At last lost hope.

Had to change my BAD review to Good.
I spoke too a lovely lady on the phone a week ago and explained how upset I was with the almost $90.00 fee and she had it Refunded to my account as a 1 off, good Will gesture which has gone back on my credit card....
Okay so I’m on a Dissability Support Pension and don’t have any spare money lying around....For the last 6 months I have gone without and saved every cent I could find too pay off my Credit card so I could again Re use it to buy myself a Drone that I have been looking at for ages....Yes I spoilt myself and that doesn’t happen very often. I spent the last month going on every site both in OZ and overseas trying to get the best price on the drone ( sadly I could not afford what they want for it in Australia) so last week I purchased from a seller in China for a great price. The price was good until the BANK wacked on a 3% international transaction fee ($88.10) and then charged me almost $300.00 extra in the conversion from Aus to US dollar. What I had saved is now gone thanks to there RIP OFF fees and I’m furious. Obviously the Royal Commision into there Coruption has done nothing to stop them. I had to go to the banking ombudsman years ago when they took almost $2,000 from my account ( Unortherised) and they had to pay it back after almost a year of dramas with them. Looks like I will be going back too the Ombudsman after I make a Formal Complaint to the bank........
Waited 90 minutes on the phone & still waiting
Tried to solve an issue online. The systems chat is a robot and was told to talk to a human - still waiting after 90 minutes. Many years as a loyal customer counts for nothing.
Closing a credit card
I have been with CBA for 30 years and have become increasingly dissatisfied. I recently decided to close my Visa card account. I tried to do it on line but couldn't because it was $38 in credit. I spoke to an operator who told me I would have to transfer the money out of the account which I did only to find that I was now in debit with a cash advance fee. I decided to go to the local CBA and talk to a human only to find a cue out onto the street at our Buderim office.
I then went back on line to find that I now had a pending Netflex bill of $...
Over 2 hours waiting, and still not getting through!
How can it be possible that you put your customers on hold for 2 and a half hours before being answered? Hire more staff!! bad customer service ever I have

Lengthy wait time, but great service!
Wait times are a pain. But, considering the coronavirus, a 25-minute wait isn't too bad I guess. Also, the rep was great! I didn't catch her name, but whoever you are, you saved my life! Thank you!!!
bad customer service on the phone
very rude and unprofessional customer service on the phone.
I been waiting for 2 hrs on the phone, then could not help then asked me to go the the branch. It just checking the account issue that has closed.
Credit card early repayment
Dear Commonwealth Bank Officers,
I tried to pay early repayment for my credit card last week as I needed to purchase something else but it was taking a lot of time to update the balance. Once updated the balance was different with my calculation before I made the early repayment. Also the balance owing earlier was higher such as $1400 then I had cancellation some transactions so I received some credits back to my credit so the balance was reduced to $1400 but the statement still confusing pay $1000 of $1400. I paid the balance for $1000 then I ...
Get with the times CBA
We are in the midst of a global pandemic, all told to self isolate and I've just been informed by that despite having numerous accounts for many years I cannot open a new Term Deposit online for my elderly parents who I Am Power of Attorney for and who already have accounts. I can open any other account but not Term Deposit I need to go to a branch and the only way to get the special interest rate of 1.7% is to physically go to a branch. Good self isolation practices!
Card gets blocked for no reason
My last 2 attempts at online grocery shopping were blocked for no actual reason that I can determine. This took over an hour to work out and several phone calls the first time. This time I might just give up and look for a better bank. My card is still blocked even though I responded to the SMS confirming that the transaction was valid. Not nice during a major pandemic not to be able to buy groceries.
And they have no email support so I have to either wait until business hours and then make a phone call which I would really prefer not to do or ...
They listened and helped
Having held my current visa card for almost 40 years i phoned to the call centre as i am expecting overseas hotels to refund my account due to the virus problem. I explained that i had all ready paid heavy transaction fees when i purchased the accom. in November and now would be charged again fees for the refund as i felt it unfair. The customer service man listened carefully and much to my shock waived the previous fees. Not what i was expecting but great service even thank me for being a long time loyal customer. Makes you feel like a human.
Unacceptable customer service
I’ve been with CBA for over 20 years and never had a problem until now, My recent visa-debit card broke, it had a slight crack next to the chip so it was only half working, Only works when I insert the card and type my pin but the tap pay wasn’t working so that’s why I requested for a new visa-debit card online via the combank app, waited for about 6-7 business days for it to come but still nothing so I called them up to see what’s happening, they said that it’s been sent and it’s on the way, so ok I agreed to wait a few more days but still no...thing !! Bunch of liars ! It’s been a month now and still nothing !! I’m paying $2000+ Just on interest a month for my home loan with CBA and they can’t even replace my card !? Is it too much to ask for ? Would be better for them to be honest and tell me that you don’t want to send it because of some reasons so I can move on and go with another bank Hopefully this doesn’t happen to anyone else in the future, but I highly doubt it, they don’t really care about us because we’re all just numbers to them
Terrible service, don’t admit their own mistakes
Been with CBA for 24-25 years. Over the past year I’ve been astonished by the things that seem to go wrong or occur. Bank made an error and deposited $16k into my account when my mother tried to deposit a cheque to her own, then withdrew the funds. All while not speaking with me once to ask my authority of what is happening with my account.
Multiple errors with loan applications where CBA at fault, though they have an attitude of “that’s your problem” and rejecting their mistakes.
Also requesting multiple documents which were not relevant and or required. Multiple requests to phone (generally on hold 45+mins) to be told there’s nothing wrong or that I didn’t need call.
Despicable customer service.. only to lend your money out to Adarni or to dredge the great barrier reef. Thanks Commbank staff and policy; you helped me decide to change banks and I urge all Commonwealth customers to do the same. CANNOT RECOMMEND
The worst Bank ever.
Ive been a customer for about 14 years and its the most dodgy bank ever. I have 2 different loans with them and a small credit card which i pay about $390 a month in repayments, I tried to consolidate my debts with them which would make it so i only pay about $220 a month but they tried telling ne i couldnt afford that. But i can somehow afford the 390. After that i opened a bank account with ING and now my pay goes into that and all my current bills are coming out of commonwealth and i just transfer the money for those when needed. What they d...o now which theyve never done before is approve bills when my balance is at $0 and charge me a $15 overdraft fee everytime and thats multiple times a week. And then they try and act like by approving those bills they're doing me a favour. Any way they can take money off you they will. I would avoid this bank and join any of the others except for Westpac which is just as messed up.
