I purchased this today and thought to myself if it's going to beat Windex, and it's refillable, it's going to be a game-changer.
Sadly, it's no good. It smells like toothpaste and leaves streaks, a dull haze and take forever to evaporate. It takes minutes instead of seconds.
I like to think of myself as a bit of a cleaning product connoisseur - a glass cleaner needs to:Read more6 - offer great value
7 - smell pleasant
8 - look pleasant
9 - be (holistically) good for the planet
Cove fails on the following:
1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 9
Number 9 because I fail to understand how an aluminium bottle is any more re-usable than a plastic bottle. Especially considering the upfront ecological cost of that aluminium bottle compared to the plastic bottle. How many plastic bottles would need to be used to offset that aluminium bottle? and what is the duty cycle of the plastic sprayer head worth? Could it outlast the aluminium bottle? How many refills before that fails? and Cove refills while smaller and are in concentrates (good) are made of 'mixed material' packaging (bad). Your packaging consists of metal foil bonded to 2 different types of plastics - which is not recyclable. Do you know what that means? Your refills are landfill or worse yet; incinerated. If you had simply used a plastic bag, like softener refills from conglomerates like P&G do at the super market, it would have been more eco-friendly, and more recyclable. (the cheaper, the consumer (me) could have saved some, instead of paying for frivolous plastic straws on shiny foil packages)
I do believe you can however drink this product and get drunk - it is possible, if the surfactants used are not poisonous, that the ethanol (which might be why mint is used as a scent here) is fit for consumption. I must stress I have not tested this and nor do I recommend it or condone it. Don't drink Cove windows cleaner. Just because it comes in an aluminium can; there are far better value options out there. (ironically, for you and for your glass)
So, if you want streaks on your mirrors, a dull haze where the product has been on your glass, and something which doesn't evaporate immediately, just save your monies and use tap water with mint scented dish washing liquid - don't even bother with this product.
If however you want all the above features and you want to ruin the planet, there's no better choice than Cove, by Earth Choice - grab some today!
BUT ON A SERIOUS NOTE:
I actually drained this Cove product (remember, it's actually Earth's Choice - so blame them). It was so worthless to keep it around. I ended-up simply putting in the 1/3 of Windex I had left into the Cove Aluminium bottle. Because the bottle is nice at least. (until it breaks... then I'll throw it)
1 - leave no streaks
2 - leave no haze
3 - evaporate quickly
4 - remove oil & films which build up on glass - fast
5 - evenly distribute quickly...
