Our new home
Overall we have had a good experience building with Dale Alcock homes.
We had a rocky start during presales, with our sales consultant leaving the company right after we signed up. When some issues arose shortly after signup, the stand in sales consultant was very unprofessional in regards to discrepencies between quote, design and contract.
From prestart onwards, our experiences were much better. Dale alcock central is a great resource for getting prepared for the prestart process and our prestart consultant was very helpful. We did have...a problem with a poorly designed kitchen cupboard layout which we had to redesign ourselves to make things functional. But other than the process was smooth. Construction was a dream. Our client liaison and site manager were both very helpful and managed the build process well. From the time brickies hit site until we got our keys, we never experienced any significant delays and progress was consistent. Even over the Christmas break there was still work being done. Any problems that arose during construction were minor and were fixed without any fuss. We would recommend Dale Alcock homes to people considering building in the future.
Wonderful people to deal with
It was never going to be easy building our first home in Australia. We decided that Dale Alcock were going to build it before we chose the block or the land and are so glad we did. With so many friends recounting horror stories in dealing with builders we decided that reputation was the way to go. Our sales consultant was kind enough to look at a few blocks pointing out possible pit falls and advantages of each along the way. Once we finally had a block it was great to have so many show houses to view for ideas to fit our block. Once we decided...our best fit we then tweaked rooms/areas to suit our own requirements with Dale Alcock staff helping along the journey. The only issue we had was the length of the build process, there were long periods on site with no activity meaning the build process took a great deal longer than it could have. Again throughout the build process our management team excelled when compared to other peoples recollections and made the journey rather pleasant considering the nature of the project. We are very pleased with the finished product and would not hesitate to recommend Dale Alcock to our friends.
Disappointed with the quality of work and trades use
Had a Bad experience from start to finish. Poor quality of work from trades. Took my keys at hand ova on the promise that by the following week the items would be fixed that were noted down and discussed a number of times beforehand. It has now been 3 weeks and still no items have been fixed.Would not build with Dale Alcock again or recommend to anyone to.
The most disappointing and depressing experience in our lives.
My Partner and I are currently building our first home with a member of the ABN group Dale Alcock. We where promised that extra cost and less features is part of the package due to Dale Alcocks exceptional building quality.
Halfway through and have noticed and formally complained to the builder for failure to meet autralian standards. We have written reports and third party inspections reports
Dale Alcocks response has been less then satisfactory.
Declaring that they are not "Legally obligated" to follow the recommendations in the reports.
Our last step seems to be to report the faults to the building commission. A final card that we have yet to play.
An Angry and Devastated,
Our new home
The construction of our new home went very smoothly and quickly. We started the build in May and were able to move in by Christmas! The overall quality of the home is great and our site managers attention to detail has been appreciated. He had floorboards replaced with scratches which we hadn't seen and fixed ceilings and cornices which were cracked or not quite smooth. When we had a few hiccups at the end of the process our site manager worked with us and was very quick to get the issues resolved. Our client liaison officer was fantastic and responded to all of our queries very quickly! We are extremely happy with the end product and so glad to be in!
A Beautiful New Home
Dale Alcock has built us a beautiful Family Home. The building journey was made easier with the great support of our great customer service officer, Jess with the support of our site manager Michael.
Dale's have built us a high quality home with attention to detail. The pre-start process was smooth and straight forward the consultant help us to remember all the little details in the kitchen, bathrooms etc that make the rooms function better and suit our needs.
The house was built in exactly 32 weeks as advised from the start. We are now enjoying living in our new home.
Overall experience was very good
The process of building went smooth and on time, no major problems.
we recommend dale alcock to others as it was recommended to us.
The liaison officer was very helpful.
The quality of work was satisfactory.
Our dream home
When we decided to build we were living 90km away from the block and needed a builder that we could hopefully trust to just get on with the job with the least amount of hassles. DAH turned out to be a good choice as from beginning to end the staff would go out of their way to please. ( I can see why DAH has been voted a great place to work as the staff we dealt with all showed devotion to their job.) Any issues (there weren’t many) were sorted promptly thanks to our awesome client liaison officer and site supervisor. The painting and plasterin...g was faultless. The only real disappointment was the tiler who was over 2 weeks late turning up. Also, it pays to check every detail of the plans before signing as one of the light switches was put in a ridiculous place. The house plan suited our block perfectly (with a few minor changes) and 3 months after moving in I still pinch myself being in such a well built beautiful home. All maintenance issues since moving in have been dealt with promptly thanks again to our very efficient client liason officer. Would I recommend DAH? Yes.
End up with disappointment
Building with Dale Alcock was not a good experience . I had several problems while building and after building .The main problem i had with white plaster coating on walls . I hire a painter before key hand over that time he didn't see the walls from inside . On work day when he come with his paints and labour before starting work he start winging about builders work that its not good rough walls. I thought he wants more money . I rejected him ,then i showed this work to other painters all said same thing its below average work then i gave t...his work to Perth's one of the best painter .It cost me $1000 more and causes delays and i payed more rent where i was renting . In between the work while sanding the walls the white plaster start felling like powder because it was so soft and painter said he cant do patching every inch because of dents and odd surfaces they are on every inch . He asked to me to call builder to come and look their work . I called builder and wrote email and their reply was "ask your painter to follow their standard procedures patch and sand the walls" everyone knows what's painting procedures, i had problem that's why im calling. I didn't want more delays because i already once extended my lease ,any how painter finished their work and did maximum what he could . After one month i found pest problem in my garage i called them hardly someone come from office to look the work . He was a rude guy , just giving his readymade excuses then i showed him the paint work on walls and explained the whole story . He put all blame on painter that painter didn't do his job properly and said all other painters were also grumpy who said its below average work. Then i questioned him, mate.. when i had this problem i called and wrote to office still no one come to look at it if my painter would be grumpy he wouldn't say call your builder to look their work. After this he had no answer and said ill see, ill see and promise me to call in two days its now one month no one called. Now every weekend i repair those dents and rough surfaces on walls and feel guilt on my attitude on first painter whom i sent home, and now more on ceilings their joints start coming up in stripe shapes . I don't think they would bother rather giving their telephonic predictions . I wont build with them again and wont recommend to my mates to build with them . They just expensive builder with average work.
After nearly unpacking everything and settling in for just over a week now, some issues along the yellow brick road are beginning to fade into the distance.
Requests to have some items replaced are being deleted from the list of things to do for Dale's as our concern for trades creating new damage out weighs our need to have a mirror line up with the shower screen etc. It seemed really important at the time but the worry of other damage to tiles, vanities etc in the refit doesn't add up for us.
That's probably been our biggest disappointm...ent throughout the build (apart from having more than a dozen windows / sliding doors replaced due to vandalism - which Dale's replaced without hesitation) has been seeing vanities, cooktops etc installed perfectly then days later finding damage to them from someone else coming onsite and doing their bit. It's obviously a building site to some tradies but it was upsetting to find this occurring. I fortunately or unfortunately had access to the home on a daily basis so I was probably more aware of what had been done each day and paid more attention to each item than most people would if they only viewed their build on a weekly or monthly basis. But credit to Dale's the items were replaced or fixed as soon as possible. All the items replaced through the home during the build still didn't sit well with us as we have tried to be very conscious of building a sustainable house that has rated at least 8.5+ Our build was completed ahead of schedule according to Dale's but I'm sure any new home owner will say it never happens as quickly as one wants. It seemed to take way too long to get the pad laid but having a one off design rather than building a show home we have to accept it does take more time in the planning and scheduling etc From the slab being laid in March and moving in the end of September (in the same year by the way) it doesn't sound too bad. However, we signed on the dotted line June, 30th 2013 and didn't see the slab go down til March 2014.
Investment Property - Overall very good
I am reviewing a home I built as an investment property. Overall the quality of the house is very good. There were a couple issues such as plumbing after key handover but these have been handled in a timely manner. The materials inside the home are high quality and the overall design is excellent.
A couple areas for improvement: the placement of the water shut off has caused the driveway to have to be design around it. It might have been better to either have the water shut off placed elsewhere, or mirror the house so that it would have be...en out of the way. This could have been done in the design stage. Also, the landscapers have some requirements for the reticulation that were not built into the design. It would have been better if they were. Everything inside the house is working well. The home has a very open design which makes it a nice place to be inside. The tiling is high quality and I love the bench tops in the kitchen. Overall, I am very happy with this house. Caesarstone benchtops, tiling, design Rain run off caused some pavers in driveway to sink
Very happy with Dale Alcock and new home. The house has turned out what we expected. Quality and Style.
We choose Dale Alcock for it's reputation - and it holds up. The site manager was top notch. His eye for detail/service and communication was terrific and made the whole building experience enjoyable. The staff (liaison and pre start consulting) were helpful.
Professional/Good Service/Good Communication
Dale Alcock Home - Legian Build
Having done a bit of research prior to selecting a builder including word of mouth plus gathering our own experiences from the Builder's display villages, we were confident that Dale Alcock would meet our expectations and whilst not being the cheapest (initially at least), we were confident in what we would get for our money and that we would have a quality product at the end of the build. Dale Alcock have not failed to meet our expectations and having had friends who have chosen competitors for their builds, confirms that we made the right de...cision when choosing Dale Alcock. We had one or two minor issues but the way Dale Alcock responded, it is apparent they take customer care and their reputation seriously, which is the most important thing. One of the main benefits for us was knowing what we would get in the end, through clear product information, access to Dale Alcock Central and a good selection of display homes, we were confident that we knew what we'd be getting in the end. We're super pleased with the result. Professional, open, customer focus, quality Pre-construction admin
Professional and well managed
We are based in Singapore and only visited our home for pre-handover and key handover in the final stage. Being remote and not being able to inspect the house during the various stages was nail-biting, however Dale Alcock were very professional and the communication was excellent. They sent constant emails detailing each stage of the build.
Overall, the build was finished to a good level of quality however there were a number of snags and issues. Most of these were just plain stupid and down to lazy and sloppy tradespeople, e.g doorknobs fi...tted incorrectly, missing tiles, etc. I felt these could have been rectified early had the site manager been onsite more and I am surprised that I had identified these issues at pre-handover when they should have been spotted earlier, e.g there were some bricks missing from one of the exterior walls! These issues are not earth shattering and easily rectified and when I did highlight them, Dale Alcock moved fast to rectify. Overall a good experience from start to finish. god communication, responsive, professional Some sloppy work by tradespeople that should have been identified and remediated early in the build phase
We are building at the moment and we have had so many things go wrong I wish we didn't go with Dale Alcock. We thought we where paying the extra money to get the best all we got was the bodgey brothers. We where told we would be in the house in 12months now going on 16months. Slab poor wrong dimensions sunken lounge, had to cut down slab at front and double brick to footings some areas at rear. Wall built crooked in garage and had to be pulled down. Delays with bricklayers approx 4 months. Delays with all jobs everything takes weeks for one job...to be done and every job is still to be completed because problems with brickwork has still not been completed so ceilings, cornice, render and white set incomplete yet still got invoiced for incomplete stage. Initial changes requested with staff where not acted upon so electrical and comms conduits have had to be surface mounted in garage. We where told two days of work to complete the wall rebuild in the garage and nearly three weeks later we still have props holding up the ceiling. The bobcat operator going slab clean up cut off every pipe through the slab except one so lets hope the termites isn't damaged. The earthworks and retaining are also not built to plan and the provisional sums where all charged at the full cost of estimates even though they where not even attempted. The design Picked the wrong builder to build the design
Building with Dales
Our site managers motto was "Everything is easily fixed". So it was no problem when we wanted things changed, he came up with a solution. The contractors were of a high standard, particularly Haigh Painters. We have ended up with our dream house at the end of this build thanks to Dale Alcock.
Dale Alcock central is excellent for helping select all the interior fixtures
2010 build, individual design - better late then never
It was 4 years ago and the home has already been sold but we now feel strongly that we should give credit where credits due.
From sign up to handover was exactly 12 months, not a bad result for what was pretty much our own design and requiring a bit more thought.
We had some small issues with initial drawings being incorrect several times, which caused delays. We also didn't quite feel the love at prestart, even though it was methodical and thorough. As an example and maybe things are different now from 2009, but I personally felt very ...frustrated having to choose DAH's combinations of tiles which did not appeal and being told that, no I cannot change the combinations or choose our own. I couldn't really individualize the home very much at all as it was strongly discouraged. The actual build started during what I still recall as the wettest winter I can ever remember in Perth, with the brickwork being saturated almost on a daily basis. We had no major hiccups or delays despite this. All trades were polite and good at their craft; special mention goes to the carpenter, painter and tilers, absolutely awesome work. The only negative we recall during this time is the amount of CLO's we went through. 4 in 6 months which was crazy. Communication with the office in general was poor and we pretty much relied on the SS or trades to keep us up to date. After handover, at the 6 month maintenance period and far beyond is where DAH really excelled. We had some problems with sliding door movement and continual cracking of walls in a couple of rooms. DAH's response, cause of action and follow up was impeccable and after using several methods of correction the problems were solved to a high standard. At all times was our home left in good condition with walls repainted (and no they had not painted internally as part of the contract) to a standard that we couldn't tell there had been a problem in the first place.
No Different to the other cheap builders.
Went with Dale Alcock because of the perceived "reputation" and to be fair he (Dale Alcock) was prepared to meet with us face to face and was very pleasant and charming.
I was disappointed that they stooped to same dodgy misleading sales practices as others.
Site costs were provisional "because we can't possibly estimate" yet once we signed the contract the contractor was immediately able to submit a detailed costing (twice what had been allowed.)
We were impressed by their list of included features, only to attend the pre-construction c...
We can't fault the process!'
We can honestly not fault our building process.
Everything went smooth and rather quickly. Months quicker then we thought it would be.
[name removed], our prestart consultant was a great help and was never put out helping us.
[name removed] has be extremely helpful in everyway when it comes to helping us. She even worked off the clock for us, which is amazing and extremely appreciated and [name removed] our supervisor was really helpful and easy to deal with.
The people that we have had helping us were amazing and we can only speak very highly of them.
After hearing of Dales reputation and after visiting their showroom we were excited to build our first home with them but 3yrs on we are very disappointed ! As I'm writing this my husband is patching cracks in our walls , we had issues with plumbing in the toilets and the most disappointing issue was our ensuite shower leaking which has caused extensive water damage to the surrounding walls, only to be told by Dale Alcock that it was caused by failing silicone which they only give a 12mth warranty for so therefore it is our responsibility and cost to fix. Oh but they did give us the name of a company who could reseal the shower for us !!!!! What a joke, you don't expect this from a 3yr old house.
Disapointing and frustrating journey to our build.
Our foundations and slab are down. And the wait begins...... queried where our building materials were to be told there is a "brick shortage" although everyone around us building did not seem to have a problem. The materials finally arrive and no building commences.... once queried we are told they do not have a bricklayer for our build. Is there no forward planning? ( Now told they have one to start in ten days.) This is a very scary start as we went with DAH as we thought them to be reliable and they were far from cheap! We don't expect th...is lack of professionalism and there poor planning and time management costs us money as we would need to rent for longer. After reading many other reviews the quality issues are no also a big concern for us. NO LONGER EXCITED.
We have built with Dale Alcock twice, the second house and our current house was completed 5 and a half years ago. From handover we have had significant issues including roof leaks, walls cracking (Dale Alcock needing to fix and they just return), cornices falling off walls in bathroom, ceiling getting redone, games room roof sagging due to lack of support, render uneven with gaps, water leaking from wall, crooked walls etc.
At the time of building our supervisor was uncooperative and intimidating, feeling like we were constantly on egg shells. We spend over 300k.
Initial design was good
Poor quality construction
No quality control
I thought I was the proud owner of a Dale Alcock home, at least up until we moved in. The first thing we discovered was the laundry has no waste water hole on the bench. When I asked Dale Alcock, they advised that the was water pipe was meant to be routed through the 2 holes used for the hot and cold water piping. This was re-affirm by the site manager. Few things that is not right:
1) The actual plastic housing for fitting the hole on the top of the bench was left behind along with other additional fittings
2) Below the sink, there was a p...
Overall good experience
Dale Alcock Homes Thank you for the oppportunity I found the journy exciting and would like to repeat it again in the future.
The staff have been excellent and have made every effort to assist me during the process. All the trade work was completed to a high standard and were freindly and pleasant to talk with.
Some follow up items have yet to be addressed, however I have confidence that the remaining items will be adressed. One of these items was the septic tank. The septic tank had to be installed after key hand over. This was rather ...distressing when I found out, as early in the building process, I querried if the septics had been installed with the site manager. The system was put in an unintended location as cabling and piping was in the way. When the septic tank was being installed, the installer apparently made mention, that He had not seen piping and wiring in sepparate locations before. I do not know what to make of this type of comment! Dispite this overall I am very happy with the house and the building experience. Thankyou Dale Alcock Homes! Good team of people One issue with septic tank
Nautilus - Botched roof job
The roof continues to LEAK !!!. Tiles not laid straight, leading edge of tiles not finished correctly (jagged), uneven gaps between tiles, colour mis-match in tiles (3 different kiln batches witnessed on site), warped tiles fitted. Lots of chips in tiles but cosmetically painted to try and get by an inspection. Unsightly and unprofessional roof job. Dale Alcock has continued with delaying tactics rather than applying a permanent fix, discussed with other Dale Alcock clients in same street and their roof was replaced 3 times and finally with a d...ifferent tile. We engaged DAH based on reputation and recommendation from my brother. From our own experience - Do Not Use Dale Alcock Homes. The rest of the house build has gone well, shame they cannot deal with botched roof job. Botched roof job, 6 weeks and still no satisfaction, roof leaks, unsightly and unprofessional installation.
