Almost every time I visit Parramatta David Jones I experience the following:
- disinterested staff who appear angry to be there
- staff socialising with each other and not acknowledging customers
- change rooms are almost never open and sometimes when I successfully manage to enter one, I get told shortly after (while I am in the room) that it is closed.
- when I approach staff for help they seem to get quite annoyed.
David Jones are terrible at maintaining a decent level of customer service.
Can't get a thing right
My partner went to the Bourke street store to buy an air fryer; he came back totally fed up and frustrated because he couldn't get anyone to help him so we both went there the next day; as always they were out of stock (they had what we wanted on display but refused to sell that) so I had to put in an order and have it delivered which I'm loathe to do as the last 2 orders were wrong and had to be returned. No surprise but yes of course, they sent the wrong product so now I have to waste time and leave work to go back and get a refund. We only came here because we were given a gift card otherwise I wouldn't go anywhere near this useless place. I doubt that they will be around for long.
Terrible customer service.. SHAME :(
Calling David Jones to change name on click and collect order. Simple thing to do! After calling 4 times and being put on hold each time decided to wait to speak to operator. Waited 53.10 minutes still waiting!
Why cant it be done online? Why is the chat option unavailable?
Clean up your act DJ.

Phone service non existent!
Please reinstate the local store telephone call service. Voice recognition on the automated national call pick up is useless. You are then put on a 'general hold' for extensive waits. I don't mind other retailers using a national call centre, but DJs national telephone service is detracting from its brand.
One example of good services one of very poor service
6th floor shoes. 11:30 16 may Purchased 2 pairs of Midas shoes lady helpful.
Asked to try a pair of veja shoes on. One disinterested young girl with long black hair handed them to me no words and totally unlaced and walked off. Very poor service and needless to say I didn’t purchase them as didn’t want the hassle of Lacing them up. A shame
Massive wait times
What’s happened to David Jones having local telephone operators? I’ve been on hold for nearly an hour listening to very annoying “music”. You can only ring a 13 number for all of the stores, nationwide, these days. They no longer have individual contact numbers for stores. A really horrible experience with no call back facility and a very poor voice recognition programme. I doubt that anyone will answer.
Refused to abide by ACCC consumer rights on their own website.
Bought an iPad Pro, got home and as soon as I started tapping it it made loud cracking noises, called Apple suggested I go back and exchange it. Called [name removed] at Bourke Street store, told me if he hears the cracking noise he would exchange it, got there with my child and [name removed] immediately told me I would have to leave the store and go to a Mac Store in Collins street to get a report before he could do anything, he refused to even inspect it! I quoted their website (see below) and he said he couldn't do anything unless I had a r...eport. Asked for a refund, exchange, anything. Didn't want a $1500 product that is making strange cracking noises every-time I touch it. He called his manager and same thing. Told me that their contract with Apple states 'no refunds or exchanges without a report' So what would happened if I purchased it and it was broken in half? Intimidated and disappointed. Have been a long term loyal customer. Can't imagine they will be in business much longer. Please try and avoid them. They do not follow ACCC laws and make their own rules which are simply bias and not fair to us as customers. Its 2020 not 1980! Hair dryers in David Jones
Be sure you know what hair dryer you want before you purchase from David Jones. I purchased one recently, and asked the sales person a couple of questions which he obviously knew very little about. The answers he gave me were incorrect, wouldn't show me the one in the box and failed to tell me David Jones have a no returns policy on hair dryers. Features of hair dryer also failed to be accurately described on box.
Very disappointed and definitely won't be returning to purchase electrical appliances from David Jones Indooroopilly as they have salespeople selling items they don't know much about.
on March5 I purchased a mattress at the Adelaide store. The sales assistant was both helpful and delightful and given that I live in Melbourne it was made extremely clear that my existing mattress would be taken away by the delivery people. This is one of the main reasons I purchased from DJ;s. Upon delivery the delivery men refused to take the mattress, first citing corona virus and then saying I had to make a special arrangement re delivery.I am extremely cross and do not feel the contract has been carried out as agreed.
Just went to buy a gift for my partner and I was done in less then 1 hour. Apart from the variety of things, I was asked about my taste and preference and then walla! I have a gift!
Staff at david jones parra are rude, arrogant and racist. I am Indian and i have experienced bad behaviour twice already and i have stopped goung there. I had gone there last year to buy Estee lauder foundation. I went to the kiosk and started looking at things. A lady approached me and i requested her for a shade match. The lady behaved like she was doing me a favour by helping me and was arrogant throughout. Her whole demeanour was like she was superior and me poor brown girl will not be able to afford this brand. No smile no friendliness not...hing.I was extremely polite with her so i do not know where her attitude was coming from. I felt so humiliated i left after trying it and went to Myers and bought the shade. I prefer to shop online from David jones now. I went to the same store again this year to return Michael kors shoes that i had purchased online, i was planning to buy them in a different colour. I was waiting for my turn in the queue and i noticed that the white lady at the return counter was friendly and kept smiling when talking to this white lady in front of me, and when my turn came her face and body language got arrogant. No smiles no friendliness. Really?? Do the ladies there think they are superior to us?? Operating a store in parra and being rude to immigrants?? I couldnt believe when this happened. Never going to go there again. Hate that store.
Such great service in Perth City
Thank you to the young man who assisted my husband who was looking for a polo shirt with a pocket (for his glasses). Not an easy feat. He went above and beyond for a $69.95 transaction. Many thanks.
Slow process in refunding to my Afterpay account
Took 10 days to process the refund into my Afterpay account. This is unlike other merchants that can do the refund immediately at cash registers. Had to call them multiple times to discuss this issue. No wonder why everyone prefer to shop at other retailers. Furthermore, I am still waiting for my refund until now.
Bad customer experience
Shopping at David Jones was one of the worst experiences I've had. I was looking to buy shoes for my forthcoming wedding. When visiting one of David Jones stores, I found a very suitable pair of shoes, but, unfortunately, my size was unavailable. One of the shop assistants told me I could try going to other stores and printed a stock ticket that stated the availability of items at their Burwood, Macquarie, and Chatswood stores. When we reached Macquarie Center, they told us that the shoes had been sent back to the manufacturer (?). Then we call...ed customer service and wanted to inquire about the availability in other stores. We called 3 times and all of them were unsuccessful. During the first call, instead of transferring us to the shoe department, they just hung up. The second time, a girl on the line told us that it was not her department and instead of helping us out she just hung up saying "It is not the shoe department. Bye". When we arrived at Burwood, it turned out that they were also out of stock. We asked to provide us with an explanation for why this had happened, but they refused to help us. No one ever apologized for making us drive around for 2 hours and no one ever offered any alternatives.
Trying to call a store
I've had to call the Chatswood Chase store a couple of times over the last week and you have to talk to a "virtual assistant" After waiting over 5Mins and asking to be put through to Chatswood Chase they put me through to Chadstone, VIC.
The virtual assistant is currently putting me through to a receptionist - I've been on hold for 12mins and counting.
If department stores continue offering such poor service no wonder they are closing down and customers buy online from other sources.
Rubbish virtual answering
I am writing to complain about the ridiculous virtual answering service David Jones have in place. ‘Liz’ the Virtual voice, doesn’t understand what you are saying - and then I was put on hold listening to the worst repetitive tune - I tried several times thinking it was a joke! Each time it took over 7 mins then 10 mins. All I wanted was to be transferred to a department! No one interrupted that shocking music to say you are in a queue or your call is important etc!!
Where is the personal touch that we have all loved and respected over the years of being very good customers of David Jones. This virtual rubbish is what will finally turn people away from DJ’s.
Lovely David Jones Brand Bath Robe
I was lured into David Jones for a clearance sale hoping for a bargain bath robe in natural materials for winter to replace a fluffy synthetic one (trying to eliminate micro plastics from my washing). I compared all of the bathrobes in their Brisbane City store. The most attractive and comfortable one ended up surprising me as it was their own brand. I had a bad experience in the past with poor quality David Jones home brand boxer shorts that did not last long so was quite distrusting. However, the cotton feels very soft on the skin, th...e stitching seems very good and the design is lovely. Sadly it wasn't on sale, but it was at a lower cost than other high end brands and it seems as though the quality is just as good. It is also made in Europe, I'm not sure if that means anything but it is worth mentioning.
Ridiculous virtual assistant
I called the glen waverley store to place an order. I was greeted by a phone virtual assistant who did anything but assist. I asked for customer service and was left listening to music for 6 minutes. I hung up and called the 1800 customer service number but again, the virtual assistant! Left listening to music for another 7 minutes this time. Don’t bother calling if you don’t want to get frustrated with the lack of service. Unfortunately in trying to save money, they will lose loyal customers.
Worst wedding gift registry experience
We decided to go with David Jones for our wedding gift registry in Melbourne over Myer as we visited both and David Jones has newer more updated stock compared to Myer. Firstly, you can’t start a gift registry at any DJ’s, you have to go into the city store to start it. We went, paid a fortune for parking only to sit in the gift registry office for a few minutes giving minor details such as full name, address and wedding date... what a waste of time. We could have filled out an online form in the same amount of time and would have made it more ...convenient. After scanning all our gifts, we were unsure if DJ’s were ever going to send us the gift registry cards for our invitations to send to guests. We had to call multiple times and email with email follow ups to try and get onto them, pressured for time. Finally they got back to us and sent them out leaving us to send our invitations out much later than what we wanted to. Our guests kept calling and messaging us as they also had multiple different issues dealing with the registry such as staff saying they couldn’t remove things that were bought two or three times by different people, guests buying online paying extra delivery fees and receiving broken items in the mail leaving them to have to go back into the store to exchange items, a few items on our registry were discontinued so the guests would ask DJ’s if they could contact us to let us know yet we received no phone call or any form of contact from the gift registry staff to let us know. We kept looking at our list to see what had been purchased and there were so many times that things were bought twice and DJ’s just expressed their lack of care on the matter. I started to remove items that had been bought to ensure guests stopped buying doubles and then DJ’s said we wouldn’t get our delivery after the wedding because that list is their packing list? They have no other system or master copy of your registry, just what you can see so god forbid it gets wiped or you update something. We had so many times that we needed to get in contact with someone and we had no luck, at one point I was calling the gift registry office everyday without success, leaving messages to return my call and got no callbacks at all. I had to send ten emails at once all labelled URGENT in the subject to get their attention and even then, it took them 3-4 days to give me a blunt, dry reply. To smooth out an issue it took 2 weeks minimum. Honestly ridiculous and such a horrible experience, we wished we went with Myer and can only hope to educate everyone planning a gift registry to please please please go with Myer to save yourself the extra hassle and stress that you don’t need leading up to your wedding!!!
No free postage on large purchase on David Jones card
One would think that free postage would be a given on a purchase of $1400, especially since they do not carry stock of Fendi shoes.
I have often purchased items at DJ's on my card and they happily give me free postage if the size is unavailable for orders over $100. Come on David Jones where is your consistency and service?
