Piece of crap computer and dell knows it
Do not buy this computer. There is some type of defect with the charging. It does not recognize the charger that comes with the computer as a genuine charger.
I have had this computer for over 5 months. From the beginning it kept giving me an error message even though I was using the charger that came with the computer. The charger clearly say dell charger 19.5v. I just kept making sure it was fully charged and dealing with it. Unfortunately, during this whole corona virus time, it was the main computer for my kids to use during this w...hole corona pandemic. Three weeks into the homeschool, the computer refused to charge. I called dell to ask them what is the correct replacement charger to get for the computer since I have been having the problem since the beginning and their response was whatever came with the computer. I told them to specify what I needed because I did not want to waste money or time. Response, whatever came with the computer is what you are suppose to use. They basically refused to specify what was needed for the computer. So I was left ordering the same type as I already had. From the door, I started having that same error message that I need to use the right charger. This has been three weeks since I received the replacement charger and my kids are on their last week of school and computer will not charge again. Error with the charger again. It refuses to connect and charge when plugged in. As if the computer is not receiving power. I’m convinced Dell knows this is a defect and won’t admit it. Furthermore why this computer is crap is because it comes with Windows 10 and every time there is an upgrade, all of your docs are lost. They are deleted from the system completely. This is a windows 10 defect that I found out about after losing just about everything ever saved on this computer. Do yourself a favor and run.
Purchased in December 2019 for A$500.00.
The worst laptop I have ever bought.
Really upset with this laptop. I bought it from Dell 4 months ago. The screen was the first disappointment. My cheapest laptop had a better screen. The keyboard needs to be hit with your fingers to work.
Windows 10 is very slow and the windows update stopped it working. My Commodore 64 seemed faster. So I tried putting windows 7 but refused to install it. I took it to a computer shop in Mackay to get them to have windows 7 put on it they quoted me $100...after a week they called me and said it could not be done.
Ah well going to Gumtree. ...if that doesn't work I will see if I can flush it down the toilet.

Can't recommend it
I received my Dell 3583 in the mail a few days back, bought directly from Dell Australia.
When I bought it I opted for the Full HD 1080p screen option.
Out of the box the screen looks totally washed out and looks terrible.
I was able to make it look a bit better by tweaking the display colors and saturation in the Intel Graphics Control Panel under Display > Color Settings.
But the screen still bad and has really bad viewing angles. Move your head up or down by anything over a couple of cm and the screen colours shift really badly.
Maybe the one with the standard HD screen is better, I don't know.
I was quite surprised at how bad it is. The XPS 15 I have had for 3 years is great.
Piece of crap!
Had bought this back in July 2018 and had issues with it and got the issues fixed. Now the lcd is dead. Don’t buy this heap of crap at all.
IF you only use one application at a time, it's fine...anything else and it's S-L-O-W
I bought this laptop 4 months ago and the lady confirmed that it would suit my needs for:
- Working remotely
- Using multiple Chrome tabs
- Using applications such as Zoom, Skype and Google Hangouts
I am not a gamer, and don't need high-graphics or anything. All of my usage is cloud based and internet based.
My internet speed is fine but the laptop goes soooo S-L-O-W that most tabs time out. And if Windows 10 updates, I'm in for way more trouble - it requires me to manually go and reinstall all my drivers because it stops recognising my hea...dphones and things. I tried to get a hold of the retailer and haven't had a response. I've called Dell and they suggested I buy a new laptop because this one is old (it's FOUR MONTHS OLD!) and that I should call back at a convenient time for them so that their tech support can maybe help me disable unnecessary Dell features (so why install them in the first place?)

There is no value for money.I will not buy any dell product any more. This is a shame for DELL.
Worst purchase in my entire life - misleading product listing on website
During Dell's sale, I purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 3000 laptop as it was a good deal, but upon arrival, there were no accessories (ie laptop bag etc), which is fair enough considering the deal, but there was also NO CHARGER so it was not a usable product at all. When contacted customer service about this, I was notified that this particular laptop does not come with a charger, and has to be purchased separately. Checking the product listing on Dell's official website again, the description/specifications did not specify that the charger was not included, and under the list of "recommended accessories to purchase" there was no charger under in that list either. This is very poor customer service and very misleading.
Completely shithouse keyboard; trackpad almost as bad
don't really have complaints about slow performance (which is what everyone else seems to be complaining about), it seems as fast as anything else I've used, but I'm just using for web surfing, video watching, email and word processing so far. Mine has 8GB RAM, almost 1 TB HD. My main and HUGE issue is the utterly shithouse keyboard, and the almost-as-bad trackpad. Any typing on it is just totally painful. It's hardware, NOT software-related too, because you get the same problems in Notepad - many keys, such as space bar, apostrophe, Backspace, etc, have to be hit multiple times before they work. Utterly painful. Bought for about $900 at JB Hi Fi, a couple of days ago.
This computer is very unstable and erratic. It is very, very slow. You get a very low end computer that is not worth wasting your money on. I would spend a little more and not have to put up with all its idiosyncrasies.
Poor performance improved after Support Assist
My first review was honest and accurate 6 months after purchase, but since then, after using Support Assist and doing a reset, the machine has greatly improved to the point that I would describe it as reliable. The start up time and overall speed has greatly improved. It no longer takes ages to open a picture or create a folder. I don't know why it was so sluggish out of the box but it hasn't been too bad in the 6 months that followed since the reset, therefore I felt obliged to post an honest update. I can consider it good ...value for money. I have posted this update at my own volition as I think this is a fair and accurate assessment. ********************** Original review: It was a mistake to purchase this laptop. I've only had it for 6 months, it hardly gets used, but It is either frustratingly slow or it just freezes. It cannot handle Microsoft Office and even takes a long time to open a picture or create folder. It should not have been allowed for retail sale. Decision made = never purchase another Dell!
It is the slowest laptop I have ever had. And I had a laptop in the early 90s!
This laptop was purchased for me in 2014 as a replacement for my old laptop that was running slow. To be honest, this one wasn't much better. It has the modern Windows interface which is nice but seriously the ten minute warm up time from pressing the button to power up, to putting in your pin to unlock it- and then waiting several more minutes for the interface to open, it was very frustrating. Credit where credit is due - it did get slower with age - in the beginning it wasn't as bad, but it still was quite slow. I didn't download anything...on to it - I used it for internet and word documents that's it! I did not use it very often and the other day when I pulled it out it wouldn't work at all. Took it to Jaycar and they ran some tests - the battery is cactus and my charger was buggered. The told me to buy a new laptop - so I did (typing this review on my new baby - a IdeaPad S145. (It's so quick I love it!) lol. I'm going to reset my old laptop once I buy a new battery and charger and gift it to my mum as she doesn't mind if it is a bit slow. Other than the slowness, the interface was good and easy to use, I did have an issue with the "@" sign and the quotation marks (") being on the opposite keys - I recently found out that this is because if you select the 'UK' keyboard instead of the US keyboard it reverses those symbols (it did exactly the same thing on my new laptop yesterday so that's why I figured it out!).
I really hate this laptop! I bought it whilst my other laptop was getting fixed under warranty which was taking too long and am I regretful! It’s slow, painfully slow. It lags, A LOT! Watching movies etc is very laggy. The start up takes forever! It freezes a lot. The speakers were fine the first 2 weeks, now can barely hear any sound.
My advice, stay away!
Purchased in June 2019 for A$800.00.
A solid budget level laptop
There's some pretty damming reviews on this site about this laptop - I can only assume they paid a premium for the i7 version. I didn't...
My Inspiron is the Pentium 2.3 Ghz dual core, 8Gb mem version. It was never going to be a power house, but I own a desktop for any heavy number crunching I need done. I wanted a reasonably portable laptop with a full sized screen, and I wanted a bargain, so expectations set to a reasonable level. And my expectations have certainly been met!
I paid $550 at JB (end of year sale), and I got my moneys worth. D...on't expect big CPU loads and you'll be rewarded. HDMI port, RJ45 lan port and 2x USB3 (plus a 3rd USB2 port). Battery life is HOURS rather minutes as reported in other reviews. The negatives? Microsoft/Dell configuration wizard is an absolute pain to navigate. I really don't need another Microsoft/Dell/McAfee account to manage; it took me quite a few hours to navigate the setup and then remove the rubbish I really didn't want. Best thing you can do? Don't accept McAfee as your AV of choice (try Bitdefender or another AV of your own choice); Office365 can be replaced with OpenOffice as a free alternative; go for Google Drive instead of Microsoft OneDrive.
Slow performance, ongoing wifi issues and limited battery life
It has taken 3 weeks and many phone hours to get this laptop to a point where the performance is almost acceptable. The main problem is very slow download, zero upload. The router replacement made no difference. After reading users reviews it seems many others have had the same problems, short battery life, slow performance and wifi issues. One user had success after uninstalling SmartByte, I did the same and it really made a difference. I now have some Upload, not terrific, but some. My main question is that reviews for more than a year are all complaining about the same thing, so why has dell not done something about it. And if someone can provide me direct access to dell by phone or email, I would very much appreciate it.
Purchased in June 2019 at JB HiFi Mackay for A$1,189.00.
A few months ago I made a warranty request for the charger due to a conduit clean break. I had always stored this cable as per the photo on the Dell site. Their reply, I stood on the cable, also chargers and cables aren't covered. I had constant problems with the network cable and wireless adapter. I have performed numerous troubleshoot to fix this. It operates for awhile then it repeats. A technician has advised me to buy a laptop from a company with better products, customer service and warranty. I should have learnt my lesson with my XPS i7.
waste of time
bought the unit on the 9/6/19 took it home was on it for about 10mins started to play up, did not come back on... JB replaced the unit with a new one on the 10/6/19. . was working.. then internet was dropping out had to keep using the tool to restore the connection, I will be returning this unit as I am spending more time try to connect to the internet an no work is being done.. How is it possible that a company can build a unit that has so many issues.. It was around $700. Will not purchase a dell model again.
Slowest computer I've ever seen in my life and i grew up in the 80's during the green screen. Completely worthless to even open takes hours to open a email, and its brand new!!!! I dont even know what else to say other than never ever ever will i buy a dell computer. And i suggest you do the same and spend your money on something that actually works.
